Chapter 211: Chapter 211
Jing Shu suggested, "I want to add a natural gas system. We can place compressed natural gas tanks on the external rack and transfer the gas into the RV for cooking." Read full story at NoveIꜰire.net
The RV’s bathroom featured a wet-dry separation design, with the shower and toilet in separate compartments. The vehicle was equipped with an automatic constant-temperature water mixer, a 40-liter water heater, and a large 950-liter purified water tank. Inside the bathroom, there was a washbasin, a ceramic electric-flush toilet, and an electric sewage valve.
"I want to install an ultrafiltration system. Also, I want to add a compact water heater next to the constant-temperature water mixer. Its pipes will connect to the underside of the bunks in the two double rooms to help maintain room temperature. This system will share the hot water supply used for bathing, ensuring 24-hour availability."
When they eventually needed the RV, it would undoubtedly be during a migration. By then, Earth’s temperature would have plummeted to extreme lows due to the prolonged absence of sunlight.
Even though the RV had a dual air conditioning system, Jing Shu still wanted to add this feature to keep the RV warm.
Chu Zhuohua’s eyes finally narrowed. "You’ve thought far ahead."
COUGH, COUGH. "Our whole family suffers from ’old cold legs,’ so we’re sensitive to the cold."
Without sunlight, Earth would inevitably grow colder, despite any initial period of abnormal super-high temperatures. The apocalypse was so named because even scientists couldn’t predict how long humanity could survive in the increasingly frigid conditions without the sun.
That covered the modifications for the first level. Moving up the stairs to the second-floor terrace, it’s worth noting that the stairs leading to it were Amodyr five-step automatic aluminum alloy stairs.
The front section of the second floor was open-air, while the smaller rear section was covered with solar panels.
The terrace featured a hydraulic lifting rooftop. When raised, it transformed into an open lounge resembling a yacht’s flybridge, complete with a centrally placed electric lift-table capable of seating more than a dozen people comfortably.
"I have a batch of light-gauge steel. I want to convert the second-floor terrace into an enclosed, lifting room and add a space capsule. I’m already working on how to do it," Jing Shu said.
It was anyone’s guess why Wu You’ai’s mind worked differently. She insisted on living in a space capsule, claiming she felt especially safe in such a confined space, and had recently started collecting various space-capsule-themed gadgets for her dwelling.
Chu Zhuohua wagged his index finger. "What a coincidence! I happen to have a phased-out space capsule. It even includes a far-infrared feature and can be used for an occasional steam bath."
"Do you want the second floor for living, or does it have other functions?"
"It’ll be multipurpose. When we have to flee again, we’ll need to bring the chickens and ducks. Oh, and build me an extra glass room, the kind with plenty of light strips installed."
While looking at the map and assessing the RV, Chu Zhuohua said, "I suggest you remove these solar panels. With no sunlight, they’re useless. You can forget about the lifting roof too. I’ll convert the rear half into a sealed Domestic Poultry area and the front part into a living area."
"That will effectively make the RV double-decker, which might affect the driving experience. While your RV isn’t the most expensive, its load-bearing capacity is definitely the strongest."
Jing Shu nodded. "That could work. But I was planning to use UBC bacteria-based solar energy. Could we reserve a spot on the roof for that?"
"Regarding the vehicle’s resources, I want to distribute them as follows: the electrical system will use UBC bacteria-based solar energy; cooking and boiling water will use natural gas; and for the propulsion system, we’ll add a battery, making it a fuel-electric hybrid. I know it will affect the power, but that doesn’t matter. You know how hard oil is to find these days."
"This vehicle is too large; a regular battery won’t cut it. Even a good one won’t provide enough horsepower. I suggest getting several more batteries. Many materials are scarce now and hard to find."
When Jing Shu mentioned that Chen Nan had a vehicle modification factory that supplied all its own materials, Chu Zhuohua’s eyes lit up. "Jing Shu, don’t the materials at that modification factory look perfect for my next custom vehicle?"
"They do, very much so."
Chu Zhuohua’s desired compensation was simple: Jing Shu would cover the cost of materials for his next custom vehicle. After all, skilled talents deserved preferential treatment. Besides, it wasn’t as if Chu Zhuohua would be modifying another massive RV for himself. Therefore, the compensation seemed quite reasonable.
However, Jing Shu always underestimated how differently minds from other ’dimensions’ of thought worked; she could never have imagined Chu Zhuohua’s actual intentions.
Never try to fathom a biologist’s thoughts. That was the lesson Jing Shu learned.
Newly motivated, Chu Zhuohua fixed the energy car that very day and planned to take it to the modification factory the next. Although Jing Shu’s family found it odd that a biology professor could fix cars, they still invited him to dinner.
Chu Zhuohua was much more polite than expected. He didn’t dissect Jing Shu’s frog, nor did he examine the fat chicken’s rear. He chewed his food elegantly and remarked, "According to biological principles, chewing each bite 28 times before swallowing aids the digestive system, increases nutrient absorption, and promotes satiety. This helps with weight loss and maintaining a perfect figure."
"Knowledge is power, indeed!" Mr. Jing gave a thumbs-up.
Nevertheless, Chu Zhuohua’s gaze inevitably drifted to Mr. Jing’s mouth, as if keen to investigate. Wu You’ai stomped hard on Chu Zhuohua’s foot, causing him to wince.
"Professor, here, have a bowl of milk."
"Young man, have some. Milk isn’t common these days." Jing Shu had mentioned that the RV modifications depended entirely on him, and since he was Wu You’ai’s professor who had taken good care of her, the family was showing him extra consideration.
Finally, Chu Zhuohua stiffly drank it down. Soon, his face turned purplish. "S-suddenly remembered," he stammered, "there are clothes boiling in the pot at home! I-I must go!"
Chu Zhuohua covered his mouth and fled. It took a while before the buzzing sound of an engine was heard starting up.
The family looked puzzled. "Your professor said there were clothes boiling in the pot?"
"What my professor meant was that something’s boiling in the pot at home and the clothes hanging outside needed to be gathered, so he had to leave."
Jing Shu quietly asked Wu You’ai, "Your professor... he can’t drink milk, can he?"
"He’s lactose intolerant."
"...And you still gave it to him."
"I thought he wanted to try out a new challenge."
Jing Shu felt she must be under some Curse, a Curse that required her to wake up at four in the morning. It really felt odd. Why else would it be so punctual every day? Was it the wheel of fate?
The reason she was woken up today was to go to the government office to inquire about something concerning the eradication of red earthworms.
Zhou Bapi yawned as he drove Jing Shu to the government office overnight. Jing Shu didn’t really understand what had happened, but she learned more after hearing from the relevant personnel.
It concerned Xiao Xiao from the Medicinal Materials Association, who was suspected of falsely claiming a bounty reward. But what did this have to do with her... Wait a minute.
