Chapter 70: Chapter 70

Kathleen stretched lazily in bed the next morning, she smiled as memory of the previous night went through her brain, her body felt lazy and thoroughly loved, she touched Derek's side of the bed, it was empty, she opened her eyes to see the sun is already high In the sky, her eyes landed on a single rose flower on the table and she smiled, walking towards it, she picked it up and inhale the fragrance, her eyes caught the piece of paper the rose was lying on, she could see Derek's handwriting, she picked it up and her eyes scanned the content, "you're as beautiful as this rose flower, I'll be back as soon as possible so we can continue from where we stopped.

P.S Love from Derek" Kathleen's cheeks warmed at the thought that he wished to continue from where they stopped, she would ask the maid to prepare a flower pot for her and gently nourish this rose flower, she quickly showered and got dressed to visit the hospital, she felt way better and with renewed strength. On her way out, a thought occurred to her and she retraced her step into Marcella's room, searching everywhere, not knowing what exactly she was looking for, she was about to give up when she saw the drug she had seen Marcella missed in Michael Deloux's tea, the drug she saw her collected from the doctor, she recalled his seizure after he had taken that soup, she quickly collected one of the drugs, she would have to find out what sought of drug it was.

Kathleen entered the hospital in time to see doctors running into Michael Deloux's ward, what was going on? He was fine just yesterday, she stopped a nurse who was about to run past her, "what's wrong with Mr. Deloux" she demanded

"He had a major setback, " the nurse replied before swiftly removing Kathleen's grip on her and running off

"What major setback?" Confused she ran towards his room and watched as they wheeled him out in a stretcher into the theater, "how did this happen? He was stable just yesterday before she left.

"Doctor, please save my husband, I don't want anything to happen to him" Kathleen whirled around to see Marcella crying profusely and willing the doctor to save her husband, she walked towards her,

"What happened to him, Marcella? He was alright yesterday"

Marcella looked at her with contempt, "how should I know what happened to him? He suddenly relapsed"

Kathleen shook her head, something didn't quite fit, was she being paranoid? She hopes Michael Deloux pulls through this.

"Please, stay here with my husband, I'll be back, I have something to attend to" Marcella suddenly told her and Kathleen frowned, where could she be going at this crucial moment? She watched her leave with a furrowed brow and sighed.

Kathleen paced while she waited for the report on Michael Deloux, she wanted to inform Derek but she changed her mind, he has a very important client to attend to today and all his meetings today are crucial, she wouldn't want him to be distracted by this unpleasant turn of events.

She paced for what seemed like an eternity before the doctor came out, Kathleen rushed to him, "doctor, how is he?"

"We were able to stabilize him, he's stable for now" the doctor frowned as though hesitating in what he had in mind

"What is it, doctor? What are you thinking?" Kathleen probed and he sighed

"It's just that the flow of his oxygen was cut short, when I checked, there was still oxygen in his oxygen bag but I noticed it was blocked from the pipe"

Kathleen's heart thudded, "do you think someone deliberately cut his oxygen flow?" She whispered and the doctor shook his head as if trying to clear it, "the important thing now is that he's stable, watch over him carefully" a forbidden thought ran through Kathleen's head and her mind whirled, she suddenly remembered the single drug she took from Marcella, "hold on doctor" she called out to the doctor who was already walking away, bringing out the drug? She gave him to examine it, "can you please tell me what drug is this and its effect? The doctor studied the drug for some time, saying nothing and Kathleen shifted, feeling that whatever the doctor was going to say wouldn't be good, "well?" She probed and he gazed at her.

"Where did you get this drug from?" He asked quietly and Kathleen shifted

"I saw someone taking it and got curious, so decided to know what exactly it is used for?"

"Who would take this, does that person want to die?"

"What do you mean by that doctor?"

"This drug is very fatal to health when taken for a period of time could lead to death"

Kathleen's blood ran cold at the doctor's words, "are you sure doctor? Why would anyone in his or her right mind take this?".

The doctor shrugged at her question, "except the person in question wished to commit suicide, although, I've heard of people who are addicted to it but never the less, in the end, it damages the person's organs, then bleeding through the nose and coughing out blood before such individual will then die eventually"

"Thank you doctor" Kathleen collected the dose and studied it as the doctor walked away, why was Marcella giving this to Mr. Deloux? Only one answer kept popping up in her head, "she wants him dead" but why? What does she stand to achieve from her own husband's death? Was that what Mr. Deloux was trying to tell her? All of a sudden, his Oxygen supply was cut short and the only one in the hospital at the time it happened was Marcella, she wondered how long she has been feeding him with that deadly drug, she could only hope that much damage has not been done.

Marcella got home and opened the drawer she kept those drugs, she had been uneasy since Kathleen came back home the previous day and her instinct told her to come to check on it so she had left the hospital and drove back home, bringing out the drugs, her eyes narrowed, one of it was missing, "that bitch" she grated angrily, what was she trying to prove? She smiled evilly, "Kathleen, you'll soon meet your end for daring to go against me" she whispered furiously but for now, she'll have to fix this present mess before her plans are ruined, she hurriedly walked out of her room and drove off, she knows exactly what to do.
