Chapter 6: Chapter 6
”Princess?” Kathy asked, shock evident on her face.
Gabriel smiled. ”Yes, you are the lost princess of Lunae. Our marks only react to the royal family as they did you.”
Kathy scoffed, she was no princess. Her mark glowed unnecessarily.
”You have all the signs; our royal blue eyes, and Lunae mark of the moon. Only the princess had that mark.”
He smiled tenderly at her while saying that. Kathy could only stare at him.
”I think you've got the wrong girl, Gabriel, ” was all she said.
He gently held her hands in his. ”Your parents would be here soon, I already called them.”
Kathy gently freed her hand from his hold, feeling weirdly uncomfortable. Gabriel frowned, noticing her apprehension.
”How did you do that?” Kathy asked. She didn't see him make any phone calls.
”Mind-to-mind communication, Princess.”
She shot him a look of disbelief. There was no way in hell she could believe that.
”And by the way, the only parent I have is back home waiting for me.”
Gabriel didn't reply.
During their exchange, she noticed everyone returning to their homes. Weirdly enough, Kathy felt a little sad by that. Didn't they want to get to know her?
”Why are they leaving?” Kathy asked.
”I asked them to leave seeing that you needed a little more time before you meet them. But trust me, they are excited to meet you.”
She was going to ask him how he told them but concluded that he would give her the mind-to-mind bullshit. She decided to leave it be.
All of a sudden, she heard a group of horses galloping towards her. She recalled the horses from her dream. The situation felt like deja vu. Unconsciously, she gripped Gabriel's hand as the ground beneath her vibrated.
”Don’t be scared, Princess. It's your parents.”
That gave her little to no relief. They could be another set of wackos just like Gabriel. Kathy's eyes suddenly caught something shocking yet astonishing; Lunae had two moons. She wondered how she had missed that. One moon was red and one looked white. She looked up for stars but couldn't find any. Geography never mentioned anything about a place having two moons at a time without any stars. Lunae was not even on the map.
”What is this place?” she murmured, looking around for the umpteenth time and not being able to get over how beautiful the place was.
”Why are there two moons?”
Gabriel smiled.
”I’ll let your parents answer any further questions. They will explain it better than me, ” he said.
Kathy resisted the urge to roll her eyes. What parents? She thinks to herself. The ones who abandon their ten-year-old daughter. Kathy resented them for years. No matter how much she hated them, deep down she was hurt because they left her on her own looking like a freak.
The horses finally arrived. There were twelve horses in total. The people on horseback also wore their marks on them. She noticed something different about this set of people; their eyes were blue like hers with the same crystals. The first people she saw had eyes of different colors but no one had blue eyes.
The woman in front who looked strangely familiar jumped down from her horse and ran towards Kathy. She flung herself at Kathy, hugging her tightly. Kathy felt no bad aura from the woman, all she could feel was familiarity and comfort. Kathy heard sobbing sounds coming from the woman. On instinct, her hands moved on their own to pat the woman's back and before Kathy could realize it, she was hugging the woman back. The other people on horseback already climbed down from their horses.
A huge man with long black hair walked up to Kathy with teary eyes. The blue-eyed people– Kathy decided to call them that. The blue-eyed people all wore robes of purple colors.
”Daughter, ” the huge man said with a teary smile. The woman in Kathy's arms sobbed louder making Kathy suspect that she could be her supposed mother. Kathy pushed her away as she burned her. The woman stared at her stunned.
”Don’t! Don't call me daughter. You are no parents of mine, ” Kathy spat. The woman burst into tears, she moved forth to hold Kathy but the latter shifted backward away from her reach.
The man frowned. ”Don’t speak to your mother that way. She did nothing to deserve such treatment from you.”
”Mother? What mother abandons her ten-year-old daughter? What parent would let their child stay alone for thirteen years?”
The remaining members of the blue-eyed people stood at a distance not wanting to come close to the heat.
”Kathy, listen to them at least, ” Gabriel said.
Kathy eyed him in annoyance, he had no idea what she went through because of how different she was, and her so-called parents were not there.
”You have no idea what I had to go through for thirteen years, so don't speak to me as you know me.”
That shut him up.
”Your name is Kathy?” the woman asked.
”Of course you wouldn't know. You weren't in my life after all.” Kathy taunted. She tried to hold back the tears threatening to fall. These people didn't deserve her tears.
”I had to leave you in Europe, it was the only way to save your life, ” the crying woman–her mother says.
Kathy wondered how leaving a child in an unknown place alone would save the child. The whole situation was depressing, all Kathy wanted to do is sleep and wake up normal, with her mum–April by her side.
”Gabriel, please take me back. I can't deal with this anymore. My mum is waiting at home, ” Kathy said, emphasizing the words ’mum’ and ’home’ while staring at her supposed parents.
”Kathy, please, listen to us just this once. Let us explain and if you still want to leave, we will let you go.”
Kathy felt conflicted. Internally, she battled with letting her resentment win over her desire to know the truth. She nodded before she could realize herself. The nervous couple let out collective breaths of relief.
”You can join your brother on his horse. We will talk better at the castle, ” the huge man said.
A man stepped forward, he looked to be in his late twenties. He had black hair and blue eyes which seems to be that family's trademark. He was quite handsome. Kathy felt a tad bit of excitement, she had always wanted a big brother.
”Let me help you, sister.”
He lifted her onto the horse after climbing on it. Kathy wrapped her arms around his waist and the group raced off.
Kathy shut her eyes holding the man tighter. She had never ridden on a horse before. But as the horse moved further, Kathy's apprehension slowly gave way to enthusiasm. She felt free. Her hair flew all over the place, she remembered taking it out of its bun.
The rider came to a halt, Kathy opened her eyes and was once again amazed. The castle was magnificent, it was huge and had a big sign of the moon in front of it. Its walls were made of pure silver that shone under the moonlight. The building was held up by pillars of bronze.
Her father helped her down from the horse. That tiny gesture meant a lot to Kathy. She never had a father figure. Her mother's husband was—she didn't even want to think about him. Her mum was the only family she had.
”Welcome home, daughter, ” her father announced.
Kathy had no doubt they were her family. The resemblance was uncanny, coupled with the marks and eye color, there was no question needed.
”Let’s go in, ” her mother said. Kathy's feet moved before she could say a word. Her feet led her past a huge entrance and into what looked like a ballroom. She glided through the marble floors in what seemed like a trance. The blue-eyed people followed her without saying a word. Kathy felt like she knew every inch of the castle, her legs moved expertly through the grand conference room.
She climbed up the flight of stairs, something pulled her to a set of double doors. She tossed the door open and entered an enormous throne room. The room was practically empty with a single throne in the middle. The throne was illuminated by the red Moon. It was celestial, a beauty she had never seen before.
”It draws you, right?” her mother asked. Kathy could do nothing but stare. The throne pulled her to it. Every nerve in her body wanted her to sit on the throne but she resisted. It was not her place.
”What is happening? What is all this?” she asked, finally getting out of her trance.
”The throne recognizes its next occupant. You are next in line for the throne. Our people are led by Lunas, it has been that way for a thousand years. From generation to generation, the women in our lineage have always led our people, ” her mother replied.
”Aren’t kings supposed to rule?” Kathy asked, still staring at the throne.
”The ways of our people are different. Our ancestors have always done things differently.”
”Who is the Luna then?”
”Me, ” her mother answered.
Kathy cocked a brow at her. ”How do I know you aren't lying to me?”
”Sit on the throne and you will see the memories of our ancestors. That throne contains all the answers you seek about our ancestors.”
Kathy hesitated. Then she heard a hum and a soothing voice coming from the throne. The voice from her dreams.
