Chapter 33: Chapter 33
Marcus felt goofy after leaving Jane's room. They almost got caught because Jane forgot to close the door. Marcus went to us Mr. Morisson barged in. He gave lectures on love and lost saying what Marcus felt for her is lost.
"Mostly I tell you guys only want one thing from you, sex. But guys like Marcus want two things from you, sex and your money."
"You can't judge a person like that father, you do not even know him!" Jane cried.
"But I was once a young guy. I know what they are thinking."
"Yeah right," Jane mumbled, rolling her eyes.
"I am just trying to do what is best for you," he said softly.
"I know dad, but I need chances to make my own mistakes.
"But I already gave you a chance to make a mistake, Clerus is a mistake remember? That is enough mistake for one lifetime."
"Great," Jane murmured.
Her father gave her more lectures on love and how she could have him anytime she needed someone to be her date.
"Who needs a boyfriend when they have their father."
Jane rolled her eyes.
After the speech that took forever, he finally left.
"Well that was interesting," Marcus said leaning on the bathroom door.
Jane rolled her eyes again. "He is doing the most."
Marcus closed the door before joining Jane on the bed.
"I am sorry you have to hear all of that…"
"It's okay, I just wonder what your father will do when he finds you cooking with Emily's clothes on."
Jane snickered. "I would also love to see what would happen."
"I feel like Emily would have grown up better if she had a father figure."
"What do you mean? Ain't you her father's figure?"
"No, I am not, U cannot afford the trouble.,"
Marcus held Jane's hand as they were strolling down the beach. She had in a bikini and after-dress and she was laughing wholeheartedly and he felt like the luckiest man on earth. Suddenly someone was pulling her Thinkother hand telling her to come with him. He looked stronger than him. Marcus was pulling Jane with all his strength but Jane didn't seem to notice.
He woke up panting.
"Tis, just a stupid dream," he mumbled, shuffling his blanket away. He did his morning rituals and was ready to leave the house by 7:15 as always. Emily would drive him to work since he would not necessarily need the car when he gets to work. After dropping his she heads to school with the car. He stood outside and conversed with Flanz while they waited for Jane to get ready for work.
By 7:45 am Jane was ready to go. She greeted Flanz and hugged Marcus once they left the gate as she usually does. Marcus realised he had been scared something would change but now felt better.
During work hours he felt like Jane was avoiding him but blamed it on his overthinking nature.
"Can I ask you a question?" she asked during lunch break when Flanz was driving to Mr. Morrison's favourite eatery.
"Yes ma'am, what would you want to know?"
"If for instance someone, someone very rich and stronger than you decides he wants me, would you fight for me?"
Marcus felt his heart sink. His dream could not possibly become his reality, could it? He shrugged. "As long as you want me to," he mumbled.
"I would always want you to fight for me!" she snapped angrily.
"What is with you Marcus? Why are you being edgy?" Jane yelled.
"I am being edgy?" Marcus shrieked. "Why don't you explain why you were avoiding me!"
"I was at work Marcus! What did you want me to do? Lay in your laps all day?"
"Whatever," Marcus mumbled facing his side of the window. Jane did the same. A few minutes later she started crying.
Marcus turned to face her back. "Why are you crying?" he asked.
Jane didn't answer.
"I'm sorry," he muttered.
"No, I am sorry," Jane said, turning to face him. She held his hands looking into his eyes. "Sorry for being more trouble to you than you ever deserve."
"What are you saying, Jane? You are the best thing that has happened to me."
"Cletus called." she blurted. She searches his eyes for any kind of emotions and finds none. "He called yesterday night." she continued. "He said he wants to get back together."
Marcus was staring at her. "Say something Marc, anything." she nudged.
"Was that why you were avoiding me?"
Jane sighed. "Yes," she breathed.
Marcus pulled his hands and leaned wholly into the car seat. "So should I be worried?" he whispered loudly.
"Of course not, why would you be?"
Marcus shrugged. "Don't know." he sighed. "I just had a very bad dream that someone was taking you away from me."
"Is that why you are being edgy?" she asked maternally.
Marcus nodded, avoiding her eyes. She turned his face so he was facing her. "No one will ever take me away from you okay?"
"Okay," Marcus mumbled.
"I am sorry I was avoiding you."
"Sorry I was being edgy."
Jane pegged his lips and then hugged him.
"Awwn…" Flanz said, looking at them from the front mirror.
"This is a very private moment!" Marcus cried.
"Yes I know, but it is beautiful, better than any Hollywood."
Jane chuckled. "Would you drive a little faster?" she asked. "I think hunger is making Marcus edgy." She mumbled.
"No it is not," Marcus replied with a frown.
"Yes, it is.,"
"Okay let him tell you 5 reasons food doesn't make me edgy…"
Jane smiled to herself as Marcus gave his reasons with pictures as exhibit and Flanz as PW1.
Jane closed later than usual, when she got back home, she was informed by her parents that Cletus stopped by. He brought a bunch of flowers that her father had trashed. Her mother told her of the fit her father threw when he saw Cletus she had to hold his phone so he won't call the police.
"And he has the guts to tell me he is still in love with you." Mr. Morrison spat.
"He also said he made a mistake and he was sorry." Mrs. Morrison added.
"Why didn't he think of that before he left you broken!" Mr. Morrison shouted. "He was so lucky your mom was here Jane so lucky."
"Yeah, he called me yesterday," Jane mumbled.
"You said he what?" Mr. Morrison roared.
"He called me last night dad."
"Jane I don't understand, why do you still have his number?" Mrs. Morrison asked.
"I don't, he used a different phone number."
Mr. Morrison kept foaming and raining endless insults on Marcus for almost an hour before letting her go.
She filled Marcus with all the information when he snuck into her room that night.
"I think I like your father better," Marcus said with a smile.
Jane smiled back. "But you know he isn't doing it for you right?"
"I know, but at least he is helping to keep that unfortunate man away from you."
"I guess," Jane muttered.
They fell silent for a moment while Marcus stroked her hair.
"I am glad he left you, it was his lost and now you are my gain," Marcus mumbled.
"Yes, I guess you are right," Jane said. "But I don't like having leeches around me, they disgust me."
"Don't worry about him Jane, he won't harm you, I will protect you," he mumbled.
Jane nodded. She didn't feel scared having Marcus around; she was sure he would protect her.
