Chapter 31: Chapter 31

Jane lay doleful on her bed. Today was her turn to tell her parents about her relationship with Marcus. She would have to tell her parents—who are already suspicious about the relationship between her and Marcus. Today she would explain the reason she is always happy and nice to everyone and compliments on how beautiful everything is, which is because of Marcus. Today she is going to say what she has been meaning to tell them.

Last Saturday was when they told Marcus' mother about their relationship and she was more accommodating than they thought, she welcomed her with overly open arms, The next day she went shopping with her.

Mrs. Wang was in her room earlier and had asked what was troubling her when she kept pacing through and fro her room. She didnt see the need to lie to the older lady so she told her the truth. As expected Mrs. Wang was happy she finally found love again, she also stated that love was bringing back all her good self she had lost long ago. Everybody likes to blame her breakup with Cletus for her arrogant ill behavior but she knew it was more than that. She began being arrogant and boss when she started dating Cletus.

You need to know your place, Jane,He always tells her. You dont speak to maids and servants the way you speak to people of the same status as you. They need to know you are the boss. You are being overly nice to people Jane; they will take you for granted.

At first, she discarded all Cletus told her but slowly she began being unnecessarily bossy and rude when he was around just to please him but it was hard to stop even when he wasnt around and then when he broke up with her she decided she would be rude, arrogant, proud, egotistical, haughty, insolent, impolite, bad-mannered and every other ill behavior she could think of, not only to maids and servants but everybody.

A persistent noise on Janes window made her groan and closed her ears with her pillow. After the extremely brief meeting with her parents, she cried so much she didn't feel like she had any tears left. Her meeting with her parents went worse than she expected. Her mother agreed after so much persuasion but she felt skeptical about it. Her father threw a fit. She pleaded and cried but he wouldn't listen. He got so angry he threw Marcus out of the house.

His primary reason was he doesn't want his daughter heartbroken for the second time. But in his anger, he had said Marcus wouldn't be able to take care of his daughter. He called him poor and said so many other things she was sure would hurt Marcus.

She angrily left the dining room and locked the door to her room. The news had gone rampant Sophia left her almost a thousand missed calls but she wasn't in the mood to talk to any–except Marcus.

She remembered the look in Marcus' eyes as her father yelled at him to leave the house. Her father didn't sack Marcus his reason was Marcus was good at protecting Jane.

"He is good at protecting my heart too!"She yelled at him but he didn't pay any attention to her.

The noise in her window was starting to irritate her and she screamed. She threw the pillow off the floor and went to see what was making the noise. She opened the window and a hand held her mouth tight. She wanted to scream but she couldn't. 'Well, this would be a good way to die since my father won't allow me to be with Marcus. I might as well just die now.' she thought to herself.

She still had her eyes closed tightly and her soul waited to exit her body.

"Hi,"

The voice she heard made her wonder if she was already dead. She opened her eyes slowly and tried to shout again but he held her mouth.

"Damn Jane you would get us both in trouble,"Marcus hissed.

"How did you get up here?"Jane asked in a loud whisper.

Why are we whispering?he whispered back.

Jane looked at him, he did have a point no one could hear anything past their walls.

But seriously, how did you get her with no one seeing you,She persisted.

I have guarded more dangerous people Jane; there are some things I had to learn.

She sighed and the reality of what was happened made her dizzy. Marcus was in her room, he sneaked into her room like a teenager—just like he sneaked into her heart. It felt like 2 hours ago was two years ago. There were so many things she needed to tell him it felt like they hadnt talked in forever. Her face turned apologetic. I am truly sorry Marcus, you didnt deserve that.

Marcus hissed. Why are you acting like you werent as hurt as I was? We both knew your father wouldnt like this.He said, wrapping his arms around her waist. Besides this just got fun, I had always dreamed of sneaking into my girlfriends room at night against her fathers will.He was gently swaying her from left to right with his unbelievably charming crooked smile.

Jane looked deep into her eyes to see if he was hiding the pain he felt; he was either too good at masking his emotions or her fathers ill behavior didnt seem to bother him.

Relax Janny, I am not mad at you or your father, he just wants what is good for you.

What did I do to deserve you?Jane asked as tears glided down her eyes.

Marcus used the tip of his finger to clean her tears. You dont deserve me, Jane,he teased, trying to lighten her mood. Even if you sold everything your father has, you still cant afford me.

Jane appreciated the fact that he was trying to make her smile but she didnt feel like being cheered by him. What he just said was truer than he thought. With all her fathers wealth, she hadnt been happy as she was with Marcus. Even if her father decides to buy the world for her she would never smile if Marcus was not beside her to share it.

Marcus noticed that Jane wasnt in the mood of getting cheered she wanted reassurance. She wanted to know he wasnt hurting inside; she wanted to know there was not even the tiniest bit of doubt that would make him leave her.

Hey…He removed his hands from around her waist and placed them on her shoulder. I still want you, Jane, not even your father can change that. At this point, you should know that not even you turning evil will change that. I love you, Jane, please know that.He then hugged her.

Jane knew the feeling of having butterflies in her tummy; she had butterflies when a boy in grand 2 told asked her to be his girlfriend and ever since she had so many kinds of butterflies in her belly. But when felt now cannot possibly be butterflies they seem to be bigger, stronger—dragons—that was the only reasonable conclusion she could come up with. She knew Marcus liked her, he liked her too much. She had thought of him loving her too, but hearing him say it—for the first time, did so many things to her. I might as well be in heaven. She thought. She wasnt sure if she was standing or not her legs seem to her turned to water, she was grateful Marcus was holding her.

Did you hear me?Marcus asked placing his arms on both her cheeks. I said I love you.

Jane wonders why Marcus liked putting her in difficult situations like when he left her to tell his mother about their relationship all by herself and now he wants her to say the I love youwhile looking directly into his eyes. He had said his own which was hard for him because his face is all red. But he should know he has more guts than her. How on earth am I supposed to tell him I love him while he was holding my face so close to his and his eyes brooding into my soul? I cant even breathe properly!!

Marcus didnt seem to know or care about the conflict she was having within her. His eyes were sharing hers honestly and she knew if she didnt speak soon it would plant a very deep level of doubt in him.

I Love you too…

***

Did I die? Did my father come into my room and shoot me for having Marcus in my room? Why can't I feel my whole body?

Breath Jane,Marcus' voice whispered.

Oh, that explains it,she mumbled in her mind

Jane took a deep breath and opened her eyes. She tried to recall how she got there. He said he loved me, I told him I loved him too and… he kissed me, he kissed me too badly.

She smirked. You have a ridiculous hold on me.

Marcus grinned. Yes, I know.

Marcus sat up on the bed and help Jane up. My mother said to tell you, you are cooking dinner.

Jane gulped. I am?

Um-hm. I am starting to regret introducing you to my family, now I have to share you with my mom and Emily. He said the name Emily with intensity.

Emily is nicer than you are.

No, she is not,Marcus replied with a frown.

Yes, she is.

Jane, seriously stop, I am a hundred times nicer than she ever would be in this lifetime and the next.

Jane scowled.

You dont believe me?

Jane listened to Marcus explain how and why he is a hundred times better than Emily with pictures as exhibits.
