Chapter 22: Chapter 22

I didn't know what was going on but Sean looked so tense and edgy after he met with his gang. I didn't dare to ask him, afraid he'd get mad. We were currently in the car and I was telling him how I forgot to do my homework which is due tomorrow. He just hummed in response and I could tell that he wasn't listening to all I was saying which made me a little annoyed.

I decided to stop talking, seeing if he would talk to me himself. But all I got was silence making me more upset not to mention that the atmosphere was so awkward.

He still didn't talk until he parked the car in front of the apartment and shut off the engine. I still sat there, waiting for his movement but I got none.

I let out a loud sigh before opening the car door but then I felt a hand on my wrist. I turned around and saw him leaning close to my face. So close that I could feel his breath.

"You're mad", he stated.

"Oh, so you're talking now?", I said in annoyance and he just sighed.

"I'm upset that you suddenly shut me out after your meeting this morning", I admitted.

His eyes softened and caressed my cheek. "I'm sorry. I'm just thinking about something and I guess I'm too caught up with it"

"About what? You can tell me you know", I said placing my hand on his cheek.

He then became tense. "Don't worry about it. I can handle it"

"Well, it doesn't seem like it", I snapped and he looked taken back.

I realized my mistake. "I'm sorry. If you don't want to tell me, I can understand. Besides, it's not like it's my business", I sighed.

"No, it's not. It has anything to do with you", he said making me frown.

"What do you mean?", I asked curiously.

"Long story short, there's someone who wants to take me down. He tries to find any flaws he can to get me and he finds it. It's you", be explained.

"What?", I said almost in a whisper.

He cupped my cheek in his both hands. "Valerie, you're my weakness. You're the first girl that catch my heart and I'd die if anything happens to you. People know me as the cruel, cold-hearted man that doesn't know what love is. But when I met you, everything's changed. You're the most important thing in my life now and these people will use you in able to get me", I didn't know what to say. I'd become a target of his enemies because I was important to him.

Important. That word he used for mentioning me made my heart skipped a beat.

"I want you to promise me something", he said.

"Anything", I quickly said.

"From now on, I don't want you going anywhere alone. I'll be the one taking you to school and one of my guys will watch you as well if I'm not around. And if you find someone or anything suspicious, I want you to call me ASAP", he instructed.

"I know it's too much to ask but I don't want to risk anything could happen to you" he muttered.

I nodded slowly and kissed his cheek. "I promise"

"Thank you for understanding, baby. I'm sorry I'm putting you in this position but I promise, I'd do anything I can to protect you", he rubbed my arm sending chills to my spine.

"I know you will", I smiled softly. He had done it before so of course, I trusted him.

I still sat there with him for another moment him rubbing my exposed thigh from the shorts I borrowed from Georgina. I like this where I and him could be enjoying our time alone without anyone interrupting us or someone trying to hurt me or him.

When I glanced at the clock from the dashboard, I didn't realize that we'd been sitting here for quite a while.

"I have to get inside. Dani is worried sick about me", I said removing his hand from my thigh which made me longed for his touch.

He sighed then pressed his forehead against mine. "Alright. Be safe, okay?", he kissed me.

"You too", I said in response.

"And don't go anywhere by yourself", he reminded me making me rolled my eyes.

"Yes, dad", I mocked and he chuckled.

I went inside the building and I sighed heavily, knowing what was waiting for me once I opened the door.

But I guessed wrong because once I opened the door, I didn't see her anywhere and all I heard was the TV  from the living room. I went inside, and I was met with James and Dani cuddling while watching TV. The place was a mess. An opened pizza box with 3 slices left along with the crumbles on the floor and some empty beer cans surrounding the table.

"You're finally home", Dani said in a monotone voice after she acknowledged me. James scanned me from head to toe and he secretly winked at me making me want to puke. That guy needs to be punched.

"Yeah, I'm going to my room to do homework", I said suddenly felt uncomfortable.

"Alright", she said boringly and I walked to my room, ignoring James who kept looking in my direction. Creep.

After I felt safe in my room, I got changed into my clothes and placed Georgina's clothes inside the hamper. I grabbed my books from my backpack and began doing my homework.

It was boring and I'd do anything to have a little nap but I had to finish it now otherwise I'd get more death threats from Mrs. Stones. Until this day, she still loved picking up on me and I didn't know the reason was. So, I tried to do my best though I wasn't keen on this subject.

I finished the last number then dropped my pen dramatically, relief that I didn't have to deal with any homework until tomorrow. I grabbed my phone and realized that it was past dinner time.

I quickly got up from my chair and headed to the kitchen to prepare dinner. Dani wouldn't be so happy with me if I didn't make dinner. Unfortunately, when I got to the kitchen, I was met with Dani, James, and his friends eating Chinese takeouts.

"Uhm. I was about to make dinner", I said awkwardly and James' friends seemed to be amused.

"Don't worry. We've saved your time because we already ordered", Dani said coldly which made me felt bad.

I just stood there, didn't know what to say next. She noticed me still standing there and seemed annoyed with my presence. "Well, can I help you?", she said sarcastically.

I was zoning out for a moment then shook my head a little, feeling hurt with her gesture. "No, I'm just going back to my room", I said leaving the kitchen, and went straight to my room.

I closed the door and locked it before throwing myself on the bed, and tears fell through my cheek. I was hurt and disappointed. I knew we were still not on good terms but I couldn't believe that she'd treat me like that. She didn't even ask me if I had dinner.

No matter how mad I was with her, I'd still care for her well-being. But unfortunately, she didn't think the same way. I closed my eyes, trying to sleep and forget the event just now.

The school will start soon and I'm not ready for it!!!!  . I've been enjoying my summer holidays that I'm too lazy to work out my brain.
