Chapter 61: Chapter 61

I knock on the door, straining to hear what's going on inside the bedroom.

"Do not come in!" Jake yells from the inside, his words firm. I blink in surprise and take a step back, curiosity taking over.

"Jake, let me in! This is my baby's room too!" I whine, stomping my foot like a stubborn toddler. The door opens an inch and Jake frowns at me from the inside.

"Back it up," he warns me firmly. I glare at him in response, crossing my arms over my baby bump.

Correction, massive baby bump.

"No. I want to see it." I tell him bluntly.

"Muffin, I adore you. But I won't hesitate to pick you up and drag you away from this room if I have to."

Jake threatens, his eyes twinkling at me. I huff repeatedly —

"I'm pregnant, you can't touch me." I hit back, impressed at my sudden comeback. From the crack in the door, Jake let out a laugh at my response. I frown at him. "What's so funny?"

"The fact you think I won't do it just because you're pregnant." Jake grins, his beautiful smile making it hard to stay mad at him. I scoff at his confidence, taking another step back as he exits the room. He quickly takes out a key from his pocket, locking the door securely.

"Jake!" I whine, my eyebrows creased together at him. He puts the key inside his jean pocket before turning around and shrugging —

"Sorry Muffin, it's a surprise."

"This isn't fair, you oaf." I mutter under my breath.

Jake immediately closed the distance between us, placing his arms around my waist. From the size of my bump, it's hard for us to get close but Jake always makes it work. He reaches forward, tucking a strand of loose hair behind my ear. His lips find mine and he kisses me softly before pulling back and bending down to place another kiss on the top of my bump.

"It's a surprise." He repeats, standing back up and placing an arm around my shoulders. I let out another noise of protest, displaying my dissatisfaction.

"I'm not happy about this." I tell him, shooting him a glare. Jake simply grins back at me before responding — "I don't care."

I roll my eyes at the millionth person now to look at my bump in a disapproving way.

"Has no-one ever seen a pregnant teenager before?" I mutter under my breath, dodging out of the way of a crowd of students.

"Hey Emily!" Amanda, a girl from class waves at me. She walked over and I give her a smile, waving back.

"Hey Amanda."

"Do you want me to walk you to class?" She asks, motioning at my bump. I nibble on my bottom lip, glancing around at the crowds of pushing teenagers. I slowly nod —

"I think that's a really good idea. Thank you."

I'm always careful around crowds but it only takes one fall or one shove for to lose everything. Amanda grins, linking her arm in mine as we both begin the walk to class.

"Are you excited for the baby? You have like a month left, right?" Amanda asks me excitedly, I nod, stroking my stomach. I've opted for a baggy shirt today with denim jeans and my high-top converse.

"Should you really be in college?" She asks, reaching up with her free hand to run it through her dark hair.

"Not really. I'm trying to attend as much as possible though, I don't want to fall behind." I respond, dodging out of the way of three boys hurtling down the corridor. I widen my eyes at them and we both turn the corner, coming face to face with Violet.

Jake's ex.

When Violet discovered the news that I was pregnant, she was furious. The girl acted like her entire life had ended. She'd shoot me dirty look's all day, every day. Several people told me that she was constantly talking about Jake, the baby and I. To say she's becoming obsessed may be a slight understatement.

"Violet." I mutter bluntly, noticing her stare directly at my baby bump. The corridors are almost empty now and I turn towards Amanda, giving her a small smile.

"You're going to be late. Go ahead without me."

Amanda immediately shakes her head, glancing warily between Violet and I.

"No way. I'm okay waiting for you," Amanda says quietly, taking a step back. I nod, grateful for her presence and turn back towards Violet.

"What do you want?" I ask, taking a step away from her. Violet can't be trusted, at all.

"How long do you have left?" Violet asks me quietly, reaching forward with one of her perfectly manicured fingers. I take another step back, protecting my baby from her.

"Three weeks." I tell her tightly, noticing Violet's hand drop back down to her side. Anger flashes through her eyes and she looks up at me, hurt written across her face.

"I'm not going to hurt the baby just by touching your bump." Violet snaps, imitating an angry chihuahua. I scoff at her response —

"I don't want you anywhere near me, my baby or Jake."

Violet blinks, her false eyelashes fluttering at me. I know my words take her by surprise but I don't expect her to take a threatening step forward, her heels clicking against the floor.

"Woah, woah. Watch it," Amanda cuts in, placing a hand in front of Violet to stop her from coming any closer.

"You better back it up girl," Amanda says firmly, shooting Violet a stern look. Violet scoffs, her posture remaining threatening and confident.

"Now that you're all fat and ugly, Jake won't want you anymore. I mean, look at you." Violet snaps at me, her words intended to cause pain. I usually don't react to her insults however I glance down at myself, doubts filling my mind.

"Shut up Violet," I mutter, knowing Jake loves me, bump and all.

"I heard you might die," Violet sneers, her lips curling up into a smirk. My breathing catches in my throat and I blink, turning away from her.

I don't need this.

"Come on Emily," Amanda says quietly, steering me away from Violet. Behind us, Violet begins laughing loudly. Her laughter echoes around me, bouncing off the walls.

"When you die, Jake will be heartbroken and I'll be waiting for him to come running into my arms. I guess your baby will have to get used to calling me Mummy." She yells down the corridor. I immediately freeze on the spot, tears brimming my eyes.

My throat tightens further and further and I find myself struggling to breathe.

"You sick bitch!" Amanda yells, turning to charge towards Violet. She's already scurrying down the corridor, her heels clicking as she runs. I lean against the wall for support, pain invading my heart.

What if she's right?

"Oh no, no." I murmur, a stab of pain flashing through my stomach. Tears stream from my eyes and I gasp for breath, desperate for oxygen to fill my lungs. Violet's spiteful words continue to ring through my ears and I shake my head repeatedly.

"No, no!" I yell out, sliding down the wall. My arms wrap around my bump tightly.

"I will protect you," I whisper, gasping for breath like a fish out out of water. Amanda runs to my side, kneeling down.

"Emily, are you okay?" She asks me worryingly but her words are a distant sound in my ears. An overwhelming sense of pain jolts up my body and I scream out in pain, tears staining my cheeks. I reach down, feeling a wet sensation between my legs.

"No! Not now," I protest, my vision becoming blurry from the tears filling my eyes.

"Oh my god." Amanda says beside me, pulling out her phone for her pocket. I briefly hear her ask for an ambulance, yelling that someone is going into labour. It takes a while for me to realise she's talking about me.

"It's not time. Get Jake, I need Jake." I whisper, desperately clinging tightly onto my bump. Pain continues to stab through my body and I cry out, alerting the attention of teachers in their classroom's.

"Someone please help me," I whimper, fear completely invading my entire body.
