Chapter 5: Chapter 5
DUSK.
The game event would have been fun if the others were not bent on making fun of me with every single step I took. I overlooked all they did and could see that Lucius was looking impatient; it seemed like he had somewhere to go. Was he trying not to leave me all by myself? If that was the case, it made me feel happy and positive that things between me and him could get better.
When we were done, I noticed he had already gone, so I went to his room in search of him. And to my greatest shock, I saw him having sex with a lady I didn’t know.
She saw me and gave me an expression of mockery, and my heart shattered. Even Lucius looked at me with disgust.
I couldn’t bear the sight before me any longer, so I turned on my heels and ran to my room, crying bitterly.
"I guess I shouldn’t see myself as a legal mate or a luna to be. The only thing I can offer him is sex, which I have no choice but to give him." I said it out loud to myself with tears strolling down my eyes.

A few days later, I was in my room, writing all I could recollect about my life in my diary, when I suddenly heard a knock on the door. Before I could say or do anything, the door was dinged open, and I hoisted my head up to see a girl smiling at me.
I was scared that she had come to mock or ruin my mood, like everyone else had ever done since I entered that palace.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" I asked, fidgeting as I stood up.
"I am Seline, and I am a friend; trust me." She said, with a smile that made her teeth visible this time.
"I do not have friends, and most people just come to mock me." I said, still on my toes, ready to harden my heart and not take to heart all her mockery, if that was what she came to do.
Seline laughed lightly and smiled beautifully. "I am not here to mock you. "I wish to be your friend," she said as she reached out her hands to me.
"You want to be my friend? Are you certain of this?" I asked, hoping that she was true to her word.
"Yes." She replied warmly.
I felt joy thawing away the sadness that had built up in my heart.
Finally! Someone who wanted to be my friend, I thought as I stretched my hand to shake hers. We both smiled and giggled at each other, and from then on, we became friends.

"I remember when I was in high school, and I loved to play football. Then I kicked it, thinking my leg had hit the ball. It wasn’t the ball; guess what I kicked." Seline asked, anticipating my reply.
"Uhm…The grass?" I asked because I felt my answer was right this time around.
"No. It was a guy’s balls. He suddenly appeared in front of me, and I didn’t know." Selina burst out into laughter, and so did I.
It was hilarious; I had never expected that to happen. Suddenly, we heard a knock, and to my surprise, it was Ariadne.
"Hey, I need you to help me wash these clothes," she said as she threw them to me. "The maids are choked up with work." She added.
Seline got angry with that annoying attitude and threw the clothes at her, then slammed the door against her. I felt so good when Seline did that. No one had ever supported me since I came here. It was at that moment that I realized that I had truly found a friend.
The next day, we both went out for a stroll, and she began to lecture me on ignoring hateful and destructive comments.
"You have to be good at ignoring things of this sort; if not, they would stop you from achieving things you set your mind to." She advised.
I was beginning to love and trust Seline the more and didn’t want to lose her as a friend as she was the only one I had. While she was still advising me on the road, some people who passed by started laughing at me and complimenting Seline.
"Hey! Do not compliment me or say hi to me if you know that you would disrespect my presence by mocking her and making fun of her while I am still here." Seline shouted at anyone who tried to make fun of me.
I was beginning to hope that no one would make fun of me so that she wouldn’t have to get angry. Every minute that passed by seemed like she had used it to correct those who derived fun from making fun of me.
~
Seline had gone to the palace on the orders of the Alpha, and when it was time for me to go back to the palace, I overheard people talking about Seline being scolded by the Alpha, so I quickly rushed to the palace to defend her.
When I got there, I overheard their discussion.
"Why did you take Dusk out when she is supposed to be indoors?" The Alpha lashed out at her, looking at her angrily.
"I am sorry, Alpha. I just thought that it wouldn’t be bad if I made her go on a stroll or something." She replied, bowing her head to him.
"And with whose permission did you do that?" He asked, looking like he was barely suppressing his anger.
"I am sorry, Alpha. I didn’t know I was supposed to ask for anyone’s permission before taking her out." She replied, still lowering her eyes.
"She is a slave, and I have not acknowledged her as anything more than a slave. So, you have to ask her master before taking her out," he barked at her.
I felt heartbroken at those words; I was merely seen as a slave, even when I was Lucius’ mate. I could see Seline clenching her fist and then releasing it. Before anything stupid happened, I had to jump in to defend her.
"Alpha, I was the one who asked her to go outside with me." I said, trying to defend her.
To my utmost surprise, Seline gave me a hard slap to the face that made me feel dizzy for a second.
What just happened? Does this action mean I have lost a friend? I asked myself.
Nothing seems to work out for me. No one is ever going to like a weakling like me. Feeling betrayed and devastated, I ran back to my room and took out a dagger.
"If things are not meant to work out well for me, I’ll just prefer to take my life."
