Chapter 34: Chapter 34

I couldn't help the smile on my face as I went to see my mom the next day after dropping Precious off at work. I had the best time yesterday and it wasn't something I got everyday.

I wasn't sure what would've happened if my mom hadn't not called...was it something she was going to regret doing later because on my path there wouldn't be any regrets whatsoever.

"You want to tell me why you didn't come for lunch yesterday and why you haven't been coming around like before?" My mom said immediately I entered the living room.

"Good morning mom, how's your day going?" I asked, knowing fully well that she was mad at me.

"Better answer me young man, before I go crazy old lady on you." She threatened.

Sometimes, I wonder what it is with my parents and making themselves older than they actually are.

"I've been busy, that's it." I said.

"Stop giving me excuse, you kept your sister waiting yesterday." She said.

"Oh shoot…" I was supposed to see Daisy yesterday, but I guess I'll just make it up to her and that involves a lot of begging.

"Your father is talking about a new girl at the restaurant and he thinks she'll make a good match for you." She started, and I wouldn't say I was surprised because she's all for me settling down as soon as possible.

"Mom, I told you…" I started, but she cut me mid air.

"Don't worry, I told him you wouldn't want that." She said before adding.."that's why I set up a date for you with Annabelle and trust me, she's so excited to go out with you…. sure a beautiful girl." She finished, and my mouth widened in shock.

"You did what?" I asked, just when I wanted to be proud that she was on my side.

"It's fine darling, you'll like her." She said,

as she started dancing happily around the house.

"I don't want to go on a date with anyone, mom." I told her.

"Don't be shy, in fact, I wanted you to take her to the new restaurant but your dad refused and kept giving me excuses so you can take her anywhere." She smiled.

"Mom, I'm not taking Sarah or whatever her name is on any date." I said, with a note of finality.

"Her name is Annabelle not Sarah, and why would you say that? Do you want to stay single for the rest of your life?" She asked, eyes wide opened as if I just told her I was gay.

"Mom…."

"Where did I go wrong? First you skip family lunch, completely forgetting about your sister and now you don't even love me anymore." She said, sitting down and throwing her hands in the air dramatically.

"Of course I love you mom." I tried telling her, but she was in a world of her own.

"Are you in a cult? Oh my goodness, after everything I did to put you on the right track." She was crying now.

"How does she even come up with these assumptions?" I asked myself, still looking at her dramatic outburst.

"I'm not in any cult mom, I just don't want to go out with her." I explained calmly.

"And you say you love me….is that how you express love? By disobeying me?" She asked.

"How do I get out of this now?" I thought.

"What do I tell my friend now? That my son doesn't like girls….is that what this is about?" She asked.

If'd have been easier if I mentioned Precious, but the moment I do, she'll start talking about marriage and grandkids which are the least things I want to worry about now. Don't get me wrong, I love kids...a lot and couldn't wait to have mine. But the thing is that both parties have to agree before it can happen and I don't think Precious is ready yet.

"Mom, I'll take her on a date…. but it's just one date or nothing." I said finally, when she wouldn't stop guilt tripping me with her crying.

"You will? She'll be so happy, and I'm sure you'd both hit it off and before you know it, she'll become my daughter in-law." She said, her mood changing immediately to a more happy one.

"Mom, that's not happening." I deadpanned.

"Never say never." She sang.

"What the hell did I just do?" I asked myself, running my hand through my hair.

After promising to treat "Annabelle" well, my mom let me go to work with another promise to pick up my youngest sister which wasn't a problem.

"And here, I thought we'll celebrate your date with Precious." Noah said, immediately I entered my office.

He was sitting on my chair, and I didn't bother asking why my secretary let him in, knowing fully well that he might have flirted with the poor girl.

"I think I'm going to be sick." I said, ignoring him.

"What did you do?" He asked.

I narrated everything that happened with my mom to him and he wouldn't stop looking at me like I lost my mind.

"So what you're saying, is that you have a date with this Annabelle girl?" He asked and I nodded.

"Well that's messed up, but knowing you already have a plan up your sleeve." He said.

"Maybe…. but I still don't want to go out with her." I said.

"You'll figure it out. Tell me about your date with Precious." He said, and immediately my face brightened up.

"Your face tells the full story but I still want to hear it." He said, and I wondered why he's suddenly more interested in my love life than ever.

After telling him everything…. though he made me skip the event which took place in the kitchen, saying he didn't want to imagine his "beautiful" doing the nasty even after convincing him that nothing happened but he wasn't having it.

"Hope nothing happened on the dining table?" He asked.

"Nothing yet, but who knows." I joked, winking at him.

He scrunched his face up in disgust and at the same time, my phone showed a new message and when I opened it, it was Annabelle's number and a message which says she's expecting my call.

"Are you going to call her?" Noah asked,

peeping at the message.

"I hope she's ready for what's coming because I have one heart and it's already taken." I said to a smirking Noah.
