Chapter 15: Chapter 15
The run was wild and exciting, and the breeze that whirled around and slapped my skin made the journey more thrilling. I felt so much adrenaline rushing through my veins, accompanied by goosebumps that shot through every part of my skin in nothing else but a pleasurable sensation.
The sweetness was out of this world, and all I could think of was the moment I would finally save her life. Death was the only thing I dreaded so much because it was the end of any dreams or wishes. I don't know what I feel for that wolf girl, but at all costs, she has to be alive until I realize what it truly is.
My joy knows no bounds, as I crossed the boundary safely and easily since almost everyone had gone indoors out of sobriety and fear. It was clear that the wolf girl was someone whose death could cause harm to the entire pack, and apparently, I was about to save not just the life of that girl but that of every single member of the pack.
It was really forbidden and unheard of. It was something that no one in my kingdom would believe I did, and I would do everything to keep it a secret, knowing that it could possibly bring high blood pressure to my mother, who had suffered so much from the wolves.
I knew I was so wrong, but this wrong was really enticing and fulfilling. Honestly, I've never felt this happiness in all my life, and it only left me curious to know more about his girl. At least her name and why her life was this miserable. I just want to talk to her again. I want to look into those deep blue eyes that are alluring and pretty beyond words.
Everywhere was dead silent like a graveyard, and a very few people were seen outside, and it didn't take long before they slid in again. None had a smile on their face, and their eyes exuded intense fear of someone who was at the point of death. The dread of being under an eternal curse was evident in the whole pack as I made my way casually to the royal pack house like every normal wolf since there was nothing to distinguish me from them.
My heart was racing, not from fear but from seeing her face again. Those small, inviting lips that graced her innocent face could really make the coldest heart soften instantly.
When I got close to the big gate, I stood at a corner, waiting for anyone who would step out. I could have dashed in, climbing over the gate and crawling up the walls so easily with my vampire abilities, but I have no idea where the pack clinic was, and I don't want to risk any emergency trigger that would alert them of an enemy.
In a time like this, when they suspected a poison in the drinks served to the royals that altered their minds and made them forget the girl in the confinement, I'm sure they won't take any suspicion moves as a joke. I would surely be tracked down, and even if I could escape by calling on my people, it would mean I was going to end up failing to save that girl.
I waited patiently behind a tree, keeping my eyes on the gate. Just as if the moon goddess was on my side, it took just a few minutes before a doctor stepped out, shaking his head and adjusting his glasses.
"Hey..." I called him, jumping out of my hiding place. He sized me up with his eyes and became afraid.
"What..." He stammered, and I quickly wrapped my hand around his shoulder and drew my face closer to his ear.
"You will take me to where that girl is in peace, then leave. I'll call you when I need you to take me out, and no one is allowed to barge in when I'm with her." I whispered to him, and he nodded frantically.
"Let me show you who I am...." I smirked, my voice barely audible as I released a little whiff of my strong scent, and that left me gasping and trembling so hard as sweat covered his face. Even his eyeglasses dropped. His palms were sweaty and shaky.
"I won't do you any harm if you comply. Now brace up. If I am suspected, you are finished." I warned ferociously, leaving him shivering more as if he were electrocuted.
"Now, let's do it. Pick your glasses, buddy." I said that and released my arms from him, dipping them inside my pocket.
He swallowed, panting as he bent to pick up the eyeglasses.
"I don't mind if you develop stroke or paralysis from being scared. Just do as I say now!" I scoffed, and he nodded, leading the way as I held his hand with a smile on my face.
"Smile and act freely, man! You won't like what will happen to you and your family if anyone suspects me!" I threatened, and it was as if that brought him back to his senses. He glanced at me and took a deep breath.
"Please, don't do any harm....I...won't be spared for helping you. They will still kill me and my family when they find out you.."
"Shut up and don't tell me what to do. If I came to fight, you would be shredded in countless pieces now. Just take me to her!" I snapped, and he nodded and let out a casual smile as he clicked on the gate bell.
A hefty bodyguard opened the gate and squeezed his face when he saw me.
"Oh, sorry, he is a friend of mine. I need to run a test on that girl. Let me be sure of some possibilities." The middle aged doctor said it with a normal, real voice, like a good actor.
"Please go in. Do everything possible so she won't die. Our lives lie in your hands." The guard sighed, giving way. His face was really drawn and sad.
He paved the way, and we both entered the royal packhouse, where the clinic was.
"Why is the clinic in the Alpha's pack house?" I asked, and he threw another glance at me, not sure whether to reply.
"Are you deaf?"
"Sorry. It's the best of all so it was built here to ensure a quick medical response to the Alpha and his family."
I kept silent until we reached the ward. Since the hospital was built in a separate building from the main house of the Alpha, we didn't meet anyone apart from some nurses and doctors, and that really saved us from a lot of questions and answers.
My heart began to race again just as he pointed at a door and gestured me in. I took a deep breath, swallowing the lumps in my throat, as I placed my hand on the knob and twisted it.
"One thing more." I snapped as he was about to leave.
"What?" He breathed, drawing closer. Before he could see it coming, I swiftly pushed a pill forcefully but secretly into his mouth, which he gulped down and cringed in fear.
"That's a poison. If everything works out well and I leave here. I'll give you the antidote. Don't try to play smart." I smirked and pushed the door open, walking in and blinding the window.
There she was, lying motionlessly with her eyes closed and her hands placed together over her flat stomach, waiting for death to take her away.
Selene's POV
I was in excruciating pain.
I was feeling a sharp pain in my chest as if a knife was twisting inside my heart, and every breath I took was increasing the torment, drifting me further away from life.
I was consumed by an unending scourge all over my skin. Not even my wolf could move. I've imagined death so many times, thinking of it as a quick route of escape, but now that I was faced with it, I was scared to fall into its arms, but I knew it was finally over.
As the clock ticks closer to the death hour, so does my breath, which hitches and comes in puffs as I use my last strength to struggle them out. No part of my body could move as it was paralyzed with intense pain.
The Alpha killed me. He left me in that confinement for so long that I had to scream, allowing the wolfsbane and silver to gush into my mouth and down my stomach, burning all my intestines and internal organs.
My heart is on fire, and I knew so well that it would take a few minutes before I stopped hearing sounds or feeling my environment. When that time comes, it will be over, and I will be sucked out of this world and into the world of the dead.
I failed.
"Hi. Don't lose hope. I am here." The voice was faint and quite unclear, but I knew who had it. I could recognize it immediately, and i felt like I was having illusions as my heart skipped a beat with a shiver running down my spine.
Then he pushed a pill in my mouth, which melted and went down my throat, and at the same time, I felt a tear drop on my face.
"I don't know why I'm doing this. That's why you have to wake up to explain it to me. Explain what you've done to me, because I'm not normal anymore since I first met you " He breathed, his voice deep and smooth, like a warm blanket wrapping around me.
I couldn't understand what he did to me or what the pill was all about until I began to feel my body again. The pain ebbed away, and I could breathe well once more.
I was healing so rapidly that even my wolf began to make some slight movements. It was strange and unbelievable. Once again, this man appeared out of nowhere to save my life.
Slowly, my eyes fluttered and opened, and I caught the bright smile on his face, but the bright light of the room made me shut my eyes again as they ached.
"I've blocked the light. Please open those beautiful eyes " he cooed, and my heart fluttered, butterflies bustling inside my stomach as I slowly opened my eyes again to be met with the handsome vampire.
"How do you feel?" He asked gently, pressing my palm softly, and I was just blinking my eyes, wondering if I was daydreaming.
"How did you get here? And....that pill you..."
"Stop talking. You don't have so much strength yet. I gave you the rarest treasure of my kingdom, and till now, I don't regret it. It's strange" He sighed and dropped my hand, standing to his feet as those dreamy eyes of his gazed on me like I was an angel. They seemed to be adoring me.
"What is your name?" He asked curiously, as if his life depended on it.
"Selene, and you?" I muttered weakly. He thought for some time before replying.
"Jaden. Don't tell anyone."
"I won't." My face beamed with smile, and he smiled back, looking so handsome and sexy with those gleaming white teeth.
Just then, the door was opened, and a doctor rushed in.
"The alpha is on his way. Please, you have to leave, sir." He announced, and Jaden nodded and quickly left me.
He got to the door and paused then turned and walked back to me. Like a dream, he lowered and kissed my lips before hurrying out.
Wow.. Am I dreaming!
