Chapter 1876: Chapter 97: After Class

On the first day of school, Zheng Qing deeply felt what the ‘academic pressure’ mentioned by the senior students last year really meant.

Without the pleasantries and preamble of last year’s start, Old Yao immediately adopted the same attitude as the final exam sprint of last year. The class was compact and complex, and not only was there a pile of homework assigned afterwards, but everyone was also asked to prepare for the next class. It felt as if someone was standing behind them, vigorously waving a long whip.

At the thought of the whip cracking loudly in the air, the young scholarship student couldn’t help but shiver and instinctively quicken his pace.

He wanted to go to the library and secure a spot before lunch.

“Sick? Is your magic power backlash acting up again? Do you need me to go to the hospital with you?” Xin Fat Man, walking by his side, noticed Zheng Qing’s shiver and immediately leaned in enthusiastically, holding half-eaten cake in hand, mumbling as he asked.

The warlock shot a sidelong glance at the fat man.

“Can’t you just wish me well?”

He kicked a small stone in front of him indignantly and unapologetically shattered the fat wizard’s little hope: “And even if I were hospitalized, you’d still have to do your homework!”

The small stone flew into the bushes beside the path, knocking down a red leaf hanging in the foliage. The leaf fluttered in the breeze for quite some time before being stepped into the mud by a passing Three-Tail squirrel.

This Three-Tail squirrel was hugging a chestnut and being frantically chased by another Single-tailed squirrel. The two little creatures scurried swiftly along the branches, making lively chattering sounds.

The fat man stuffed the remaining cake into his mouth in a few bites and looked at them with envy, sighing, “It’s only the first day of school… absolutely insane. I heard there’s a welcome party at Alpha Academy tonight, and I’ve received an invitation! Why doesn’t our academy have such events?”

The implication was that if there was a welcome party, perhaps, maybe, possibly, Old Yao might assign less homework in honor of it. Regarding the fat man’s thought, Zheng Qing could only say he was dreaming.

“Is Alpha’s welcome party this early?”

Xiao Xiao, walking on Zheng Qing’s other side, expressed his surprise and then asked, “Besides, aren’t you afraid of being dragged into the woods for a beating by the white-robed ones if you, a Jiuyou People, attend Alpha’s welcome party?”

“I’ll wear a black robe.”

The fat man licked his greasy lips and answered slyly, “And I have the campus newspaper’s interview invite. Anyone with a bit of brains wouldn’t provoke me lightly.”

In any academy, reporters who control the school’s public opinion usually get a little beyond-ordinary neutral privilege. Even though many of them do not genuinely remain neutral.

“Talking brains with drunken people is as laughable as expecting a Three-Tail squirrel not to bully a Single-tailed squirrel.” Zheng Qing watched the two squirrels bounce away and pursed his lips.

“Anyone care to join me? My invitation allows a plus one!” The fat man cheerfully patted his belly, making a sound much like tapping a ripe watermelon.

Both companions tilted their heads and squinted at him.

It made the fat wizard slightly uneasy.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” He touched his cheeks, then checked his fingers: “Do I have cake crumbs on my face? Left or right?” This update ıs available on 𝔫𝔬𝔳𝔢𝔩·𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢·𝔫𝔢𝔱

Zheng Qing looked at him with pity: “Your problem isn’t as simple as having cake crumbs on your face… no regular warlock would bring another warlock as a date to a party.”

The fat wizard’s face flushed slightly.

“Homosexuality isn’t included,” Doctor Xiao corrected righteously. “Of course, we know you aren’t, and you know we aren’t either.”

The red on Xin Fat Man’s face faded and started turning blue, with a dangerous gleam in his eyes.

Zheng Qing observed the situation and feared that in a moment of calm, the fat man might become a Blue Giant and flatten him and Xiao Xiao into pancakes, so he quickly changed to a slightly lighter topic:

“I heard there are quite a few pretty freshmen girls this year, you should seize the chance… speaking of, why didn’t we get to lead any newcomers this year? Like Nicholas showed us around campus last year.”

The blue faded from the fat wizard’s face, though he was still somewhat displeased: “Because when the freshmen arrived at Buji Island, we were still at the trial site. So the orientation tasks went to last year’s group… except for Nicholas.”

This year Nicholas successfully advanced to the second year, finally no longer needing to lead freshmen and endure the strange looks from former classmates.

“He got what he wished for.”

Zheng Qing thought of the tall, slender warlock with a ponytail and sincerely wished him well: “Hope he has the same good luck this year as last…”

“Honestly, for a Northern District Wizard, surviving the second year to progress to the third with frogs is really difficult,” Xiao Xiao presented a brutal yet realistic possibility: “It’s not something that can be managed by staying up all night memorizing magic potion properties and uses… even with Liu Fei Fei’s help.”

In the face of heavy reality, the light and joyful chat atmosphere vanished.

The three young wizards walked quietly along the leaf-covered blue stone slab path. Just as they were nearing the end, Zheng Qing suddenly came to his senses and asked, “After class just now, I saw Old Yao took Nicholas away… does the school have any plans?”

“If the school had a solution, the Northern District Wizards wouldn’t have been causing trouble one after another.”

Xin Fat Man shook his head, skillfully pulled a sugar-dusted puff pastry from his watch, popped it into his mouth, and mumbled, “This summer, the Beta Town Post was busy… Northern District Wizards want to enter the First University, Mouse People want seats Under the Moon, and the Horse-Man Tribe of Silent Forest, who suffered greatly in the last black tide, have also asked the school for the same subsidies as Beta Town residents… all sorts of equality movements are practically a feast for those Pulitzers.”

Ms. Pulitzer is the star journalist of the Beta Town Post, known for her sharp words and daring ‘nonsensical talk.’ Zheng Qing once had an interview with her and was deeply impressed.

“Totally imaginable,” the young scholarship student resonated.

“Old Yao taking Nicholas away is probably related to Sister Korma’s experiment.”

Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, looking around carefully, and lowered his voice: “I heard she did some deal with Doctor Duzem, got the recipe for the ‘Dushi Philosopher’s Stone,’ and plans to promote it among the Northern District Wizards to replace the current flaw of using frogs for magic… originally I thought it was just a rumor, but I don’t know if you noticed, during this year’s trial, Nicholas didn’t have as many frogs but instead wore a strange ring.”
