Chapter 1845: Chapter 66: Unexpected Incident
Fat Man likes small animals.
Otherwise, the cat staying in dorm 403 wouldn’t treat Fat Man’s bed as its palace, and Fat Man’s head as its little nest.
But not all small animals are as harmless as Tuan Tuan.
At the very least, that little Green Snake in Zheng Qing’s ear is not an easy creature to deal with. At this moment, hearing Fat Man once again begin to pester, wanting to play with that Green Snake, the young Wizard on scholarship immediately put on a stern face, giving him a warning look:
“Do you want my points to be completely deducted? The issue with Furry Bean hasn’t even been resolved yet…and that snake is not a pet, it’s not easy to deal with, be careful it doesn’t crush your bones…”
The tent flap lifted, and Old Verne walked in wrapped in a chill.
“What’s going to crush bones?” The Elder Wizard shook off the cold from his body, catching the Warlock’s half-uttered sentence, and smiled as he asked.
Zheng Qing gave Fat Man a fierce glare, then turned around, giving Old Verne a hearty laugh: “We were talking about those suddenly appearing Ogres… If you’re not careful and get caught by them, they’ll crush our bones.”
Li Meng’s snicker immediately followed from the side.
Zheng Qing maintained his composure, his attitude sincere, not at all like someone telling a lie.
Old Verne didn’t pay much attention to these details.
“Hmm,” the Elder Wizard strode down the steps, coming to the map not far from the dining table, gazing at the map which had become much clearer, his gaze eventually landing on a small patch of black shadow not far from the camp: “Indeed a bit troublesome?”
The young Wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team all stood up, leaving the dining table, and gathered behind the old man.
Li Meng also wanted to put down her dining spoon, but Jiang Yu stopped her with a look, forcing her to remain behind the dining table, dealing with her dinner with a face full of grievance.
The small black area on the map Old Verne pointed to was the area the Absolution Hunting Team explored on the second day of the trial. The original color wasn’t deep, almost gray, and the most troublesome thing hidden in that area was a nest of Deng’s White Ants. Xin Fat Man took only half an hour to concoct a very effective insecticide, and the Absolution Hunting Team finished the trial project that day in just one morning.
But just four days later, on the penultimate evening before the trial’s end, when the young Wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team returned to camp exhausted after completing the latest project, they received bad news.
A group of Ogres mysteriously appeared in the area they had explored the second day.
Because that area is not far from the camp, adjacent to a main route, it caused great trouble for passing Wizards. Coupled with the fact that the danger level of Ogres is incomparable to Deng’s White Ants, the area, which had turned white, was instantly painted black, like an ugly scar branded on a surrounding, spotless map.
Simultaneously, there were some unwelcome rumors spreading between camps, vaguely suspecting Zheng Qing and others of cheating during the trial. Due to last year’s freshman contest scandal in the school’s hunting party, these rumors gained some traction.
This was also why Zheng Qing and others were rather upset during dinner.
“What does the committee say?”
Zheng Qing looked at the tall silhouette of the Elder Wizard, unable to resist asking.
Old Verne had gone out to attend a meeting of the trial management committee to discuss how to handle areas that had been cleaned being polluted again.
“Opinions were highly divided among everyone.”
The Grey Robe Wizard looked back at the eager scholarship student and, without putting on airs, simply explained: “Some people think this is because you didn’t complete the task and should clean up again, but two cleanups can only count as one task; some believe this shows your work wasn’t thorough, requiring you not only clean it again but also have points deducted; others argue that those suddenly appearing Ogres are pests outside of divination, and given the entirely different risk levels shown on the map before and after, it shouldn’t be treated with a broad-brush approach…”
“What’s the final conclusion?” Li Meng somehow dropped her dining spoon and, standing on her chair, interrupted the Elder’s string of ‘some people,’ eagerly asking.
Jiang Yu turned to look and immediately became furious, causing another ruckus.
Old Verne didn’t mind the Little Witch’s rudeness, smiled, paused, and then continued: “The committee ultimately provided two options. One, they recognize the projects and scores you completed earlier. You do not need to clean the Ogres, but a small deduction of points during the final task summary might occur… If you accept this option, you can still take on new tasks tomorrow.”
“The other option is, the Ogres still have to be dealt with by you. There won’t be a points deduction, and hunting the Ogres can still earn additional points. If you accept this option, it means you definitely won’t have time for new tasks tomorrow.”
Tomorrow is the last day of the trial.
Low-risk and easily explored areas had already been cleaned out during the previous six days of trials; the remaining areas are either complex in terrain, severely polluted, or occupied by dangerous magical creatures. In short, there’s nowhere that’s easy to tackle.
Even today, the task Zheng Qing and the team selected took great effort and only barely completed from morning till evening. With Zhang Ji Xin’s mind, he could guess how difficult the remaining areas would be. Googlᴇ search noᴠelfire.net
“Let’s choose option two.”
Xin Fat Man stuffed a roasted spider into his mouth, and was the first to voice his opinion: “Compared to the higher-risk unknown tasks, I’d rather face a group of foolish Ogres. At least I can prepare some soft bone powder tonight to deal with the Ogres.”
“And such a large Ogre Tribe, there surely are Two-headed Ogres.” Zhang Ji Xin tightened the gloves on his hand, agreeing with Fat Man’s opinion: “I remember the lowest tier Two-headed Ogre on the list has at least five points…”
“With our current total points, as long as there’s no deduction, we can maintain dominance over the second place.” Although Xiao Xiao didn’t explicitly express his opinion, his inclination was clear: “Continuing to venture into unexplored areas offers significantly lower marginal returns.”
Then Zheng Qing looked at Jiang Yu.
“That area was explored by us,” the Witch said to the young Wizard, speaking softly: “We believe it to be clean, and we have the responsibility to ensure that cleanliness…at least before we leave.”
Zheng Qing exhaled lightly and averted his gaze.
Immediately, an agitated shout from the Little Witch rang out behind him: “You haven’t asked for my opinion yet!”
The Warlock quickly turned back, sincerely looking at Li Meng.
The Little Witch folded her arms, lifted her chin, snorted, and then solemnly answered: “I choose option one! Ogres are too smelly, everyone should stay far away from them…”
Zheng Qing didn’t listen to the Little Witch’s full analysis, decisively turning back to Old Verne:
“The vote result is five to one, we choose option two.”
