Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Fallon POV
Six months after my rescue, I finally made a full recovery. Umbra is dead, and most of her witches are. Libby and Crane have worked hard to restore peace to the supernatural community. They are doing great and are making great reapers. Their teenagers have become permanent members of our pack. Alpha Mayhem gave them jobs and educational resources while their parents did what was necessary to keep us safe.
After Umbra's death it was baffling to the pack doctor why I was healing so slow. No one could figure it out and I guess it did not matter. I had my mother's magic and Mother Agnes's life force, but my body was slow to heal. Now I am able to walk and do things on my own again. I know this was hard on Ryan, but he took care of me.
I sit on the porch sipping a cup of tea alone for a moment, watching the sunrise. It is relaxing to me to just be alone. I see my father coming my way in his human form. I know he usually runs at night with Charis, but he is coming alone.
"How are you feeling?" Alpha Mayhem asks me.
I nod my head and smile. "I feel perfect," I answer. I do feel perfect now. Ryan joins us on the front porch.
"Alpha Mayhem," Ryan says, greeting my father.
"We need to talk, the four of us," Alpha Mayhem says. I see Charis coming behind him. She must have stopped for some reason or another. Alpha Mayhem waits for Charis to join us.
"Okay, what is going on?" I ask.
Alpha Mayhem and Charis sit on the porch. We look like a normal everyday family, sitting on the porch, watching the sunrise. "I am ready," Alpha Mayhem says.
He reaches over and takes Charis's hand. I know what he is referring to right now. He wants to retire. He wanted to months ago, but Ryan was caring for me. "Not that you are healed. It is a good time to make Ryan the Alpha of the pack. I want the two of you to run things. Charis and I will leave for a life without the pack after the handoff. I know the two of you can do it," Alpha Mayhem says.
I look at Ryan to see his response. We have talked about this, but is this what he wants? "I accept," Ryan answers.
My father looks at me. "What about you? Do you accept the Luna responsibilities?" my father asks me.
"Yes, but there is one more thing I need to say, and I wanted all of us to be here before I said anything," I say.
Ryan moves closer to me. All eyes are on me now. "I am pregnant," I say.
Charis and my father erupt in happiness. Ryan stands behind me with his hand on my shoulder. I look up at him. "Are you happy?" I ask him.
"Yes, this is wonderful," Ryan says.
"Just do not name him Mayhem. He will be nothing but trouble," My father teases us.
"Noted," Ryan says.
My father and Charis hold one another. "We will sort things out later, but I want to do this soon," Alpha Mayhem says.
The two rush home, leaving Ryan and me to sort through my announcement. "Pregnant, huh? I am going to be a father," Ryan says.
I smile at him. He kneels down in front of me. "I am very happy," Ryan says.
"So future Alpha, now what?" I ask Ryan.
Ryan touches my face and leans in to kiss me. "I think I am happier than I ever thought possible. You have given me everything a man could want," Ryan says.
The pack handoff began immediately. Within six months, we were crowned Alpha and Luna. My belly is growing as my duties increase. I feel a little overwhelmed between the pack, the teens, and preparing to be a mother. That is when I had an unexpected visitor.
The rain was pouring, and the sky was on fire with thunder and lightning the night I had my visitors. "We are here for you, Fallon," the ancestors called out to me.
Ryan heard them too. He was not exactly happy. When the ancestors show up, they always bring problems, but not this time. I stand up and greet them at the window. Ryan follows me, ready to tell them to leave if they upset me.
"She wants to see you," Onya steps forward and says.
I turn to see her, my birth mother standing, glowing behind me. "I am proud of you, my love. You turned from the reaping and instead have a family. You have a man who loves you and a child coming," My mother says.
I touch my belly. Ryan is quick to stay between us. He trusts no one when it comes to our child and me. "I am not here to harm her or your daughter," My birth mother says.
"Daughter?" I ask.
The ancestors and my mother circle me. "Yes, a daughter," they all say together.
"Why are you here? Not to be ungrateful. I am moving on with my life. I want my family and my pack. This is the life I chose. I let go of my magic to be the Luna. So why are you here?" I ask.
My birth mother moves close to me and touches my growing belly. "She has your magic and mine. When you released your magic, it did not just leave; it went to her. I am here to tell you that we all will protect her throughout her life," she says.
Ryan is trying to remain calm, but the thought of our daughter carrying around ancient magic is too much. "When she is born, you four better be there to take the magic from her. Our daughter will not live in fear. She will have a normal life," Ryan growls.
The ancestors begin to protest, but he is having none of it. "I agree. No more hidden magic," I growl.
"We understand," the ancestors say.
I wasn't sure if they understood. All I wanted was a normal life for my family and myself. I did not feel it was too much to ask.
Ryleigh Agnes was born at sunrise on September 3. Charis was with me as my midwife. Ryan and my father paced and worried the entire night. The magic inside Ryleigh terrified them both.
There was no sign of the ancestors the morning Ryleigh was born. There was no sign of magic inside her. She was beautiful and perfect. The best part was she was the perfect little werewolf baby.
"She is all wolf," Ryan says as he holds her daughter. I could feel his relief holding Ryleigh. We had our family now: no magic, no ancestors, no reapers.
