Chapter 8: Chapter 8

We've been staying at the Knight Palace for a few weeks now. I avoid meeting with them because I want to avoid making a scene. I also try to keep the three of us from becoming tense. Not only that, but I don't want my cousins, our parents, to feel we have a problem. It’s enough that only Erin knows the secret.

I just focused on my children and the job I had left behind.

Claire and I rebuilt a bar to continue the business I started in the province.

Except for my sister, it’s been fine in the few weeks we've been here. I’m don’t know what made her so angry once I returned. Do I no longer may live here? I am a member of this family. She can never deny that I am a knight.

I didn’t return to destroy their family; I returned because I know I still have a responsibility as a knight, and I also want my children to know who I am.

“Ms. Scarlett,”

My secretary entered my office as I looked up at the door.

“Do you need anything?” I asked of my secretary. She entered and bowed before proceeding to my table.

“It’s Mr. Erin Knight,” she announced. Before she left my office, she handed me the phone, and I smiled at her.

I looked at my phone. Why was Erin called up? Is something going on?

Erin shouted at me as I answered his call, “Go home, Scarlett!” I frowned because he seemed to pant.

“Why, brother? Did something happen?” I asked.

“The chairman was ambushed!” said Erin. My eyes widened, and I moved from my seat.

How did that happen? He has several bodyguards.

“What happened, Erin?” I asked. I could hear his breath.

“No more questions! Go home!” he said. I sighed and bit my lip.

“Okay, I'll be there!” I said, as I hung up the phone, and I was going to leave the office.

Oh, no! Scarlett, don't think otherwise. The chairman is safe. I am confident he is safe. He is our chairman.

“Miss?” My secretary was surprised to see me leave so fast.

“You take care of it, Lisa. I have something to do,” I told her as I rushed into the elevator. Because I was nervous, I just leaned back and looked at the number of floors.

I’m worried about the chairman, and especially about my children. They may be more confused by what is going on in my family. Oh, please let nothing bad happen to the chairman.

I was nervous while praying, but I couldn't ignore my duty as a knight. I didn’t make a mistake by returning here because I know our entire family has plenty of enemies.

They want the Knights' wealth, or they want to overthrow our entire clan.

They have tried to take over us several times, but they have never succeeded because, besides being more powerful, we are also smarter. We didn’t train for doing nothing. Grandpa didn’t teach us to lose, and we weren't stupid enough for them to beat us.

I exited the elevator as soon as it opened, and our employees at the bar greeted me. Maybe our employees are worried about me because I’m clearly shaken. I ignored them and proceeded to the parking lot, but a car stopped in front of me, and my eyes widened as I saw Claire.

She forced open the car door. “Let’s go! There are a lot of them!” she yelled. I nodded and climbed into her car. “Damn it! This is disturbing! My father is still trying me to do something, but here I am because they actually fought the Knights.” said Claire as she drove her car. I buckled my seatbelt and exhaled deeply.

Claire seems to be aware of what happened to the chairperson. So, I turned to the window after looking at Claire, who was driving seriously.

“Claire, what happened--?” I couldn’t finish what I was about to say when a gun was fired at the car we were in.

F-ck. What’s going on? Did our enemies hear that I'm back? Damn!

“Ask later, sis! We need to get them out of our way!” she shouts as she stepped on the gas pedal to speed up her car.

Damn it. I can't properly speak to Claire if someone is blocking me. When I noticed a car following me behind us, I looked back.

“F-ck! They’re after us!” said Claire, and I noticed she was holding a gun. She moves so quickly.

With one hand, she opened the window in the driver's seat and shot at the cars chasing us. My fists are tight.

“F-ck that asshole!” she shouted, stepping hard as the car sped up even more.

Because of what was going on, I rubbed my hair and looked at Claire, who was struggling to drive while trying to shoot at the car that was chasing us.

I breathed deeply and firmly, drew her to the passenger seat, which surprised her. TSK. We switched places so she could fight properly.

“What the…?” she exclaimed.

I looked at her. “Go! I’ll drive!” I shouted at her, opening all the car windows so she could shoot them properly.

“Thank you, sis!” she said as she slipped through the window to shoot at those chasing me. “Woah! F-ck, you assholes!” she shouted as she shot behind us.

As I looked in the rear mirror at those chasing me, I shook my head and tightened my grip on the steering wheel. I took a deep breath, opened Claire's car's hidden box, and took the gun to get involved. Claire can't do it by herself if we're in the car. Those pursuing us will only grow in number.

I aimed the gun I was holding on their car's wheels and tried to shoot them while I was still driving. I also have to be cautious because one wrong move could lead to our death.

I'm also used to things like this because of my family. Not only that, but I checked the rearview mirror again and noticed that they were increasing.

F-ck! I bit my lower lip and took a deep breath to clear my mind. Because I assume I am their target rather than the chairperson.

I tightened my grip on the steering wheel and turned right to block the road.

Claire had turned around, which I noticed. “Why did you stop? There are so many of them right now that we can't handle them!” she said.

I didn't pay attention to her and instead activated the gun I was holding. If we continue to avoid them, they will not stop.

I took the bomb after opening the compartment. Claire must have thought, ‘I won't know if she hides plenty of weapons in her car.’

“F-ck, Scarlett! We're going to die if we don't move!” said Claire. I chuckled as I turned to face her.

“I will not allow that to happen,” I smirked as I exited her car, still hearing Claire scream.

“What are you doing?”

I ignored her and turned to face the people who had stopped in front of us. Before our enemies could move, I threw the bomb towards them and shot it, causing an enormous explosion. And I just stared at our enemies, knowing that they were all killed by the bomb I threw at them.

They will not stop until no one is harmed. My fists are clenched because it would seem that our enemies are no joke anymore.

When I turned around, I noticed Claire was impressed by what I had done.

Claire yelled, “Holy sh-t! Why are you stealing my weapon? My precious weapon.” I smirked and got back in my car.

I even looked in the rearview mirror and smirked again before driving away from that place. Claire's complaints about her “precious weapon”.

“Why did you blow them up, Scarlett? Don't you know those bombs were just made, and I haven't even tried to use them yet!” Claire snarled, leaning back.

I smirked. “I used it. They look to be okay, and they can be sold,” I told her. She said nothing to me because she knew it was in her favor. Claire is a businesswoman, so she will sell it for a high price.

That's how the Perkins' lives go. That is why they are close to our family, because my cousins get weapons from them.

I just shook my head and put the gun back in her hidden box, so she turned to me and asked, “My gosh! How did you know where I put that?!?” I smirked.

“We’ve known each other and been friends for a long time, Claire. It's as if you do not know who you're talking to,” I said, smiling at her. Her eyes widened, but she rolled her eyes. I laughed because she seemed to feel I had defeated her.

Claire is both my greatest rival and my best friend. She fights against me in everything because her habit is not to lose, but eventually, she just laughs when she defeats against me.

When I remembered the incident, my smile faded away. “What’s going on, Claire?” I asked. She swallowed and gave me a smile.

“The chairman’s vehicle was ambushed; lucky, the Knights found this right away and moved the chairperson to another car,” Claire explained. I sighed with relief because I knew the chairperson was safe.

Even if my grandfather and I argue or he holds a grudge against me, I will never deny that he is my grandfather and that I am his granddaughter. Fighting for him is also my responsibility.

I sighed and shook my head, as I was more worried about my children.

“I’m thinking about my kids, Claire. They might be more confused about what’s going on in our family, and I don't want them to get involved in the trouble,” I said. I noticed she was stunned, but she only sighed.

“No matter what you keep hidden from your children, even if you keep them out of trouble… they'll still be involved here,” said Claire, taking my hand in hers. “Don't forget that our world is different, Scarlett,” she added. She smiled and leaned back once more.

I tightened my grip on the steering wheel and took a deep breath. I don’t know what to tell my children. Not only that, but I don’t want them to be involved in my family’s chaotic world.

I turned to Claire, who had been silent on the way home, and I didn’t know what to say to her. I'm still not sure about my suspicions, and I could be entirely wrong.

“Do you want to tell me something?” asked Claire. She had already noticed that I was staring at her.

“I’m uncertain if I can tell you this because I could be wrong,” I said. I pulled over to the side of the road so I could properly speak with her.

Said Claire, “You can tell me anything, Ven.” I leaned back and massaged my forehead.

“It would seem that the chairman is not their target,” I said, and she turned to face me, surprised.

“How can you say the chairman isn’t their target?” asked Claire. I shook my head because I had a distinct feeling earlier when we were exchanging shots with the enemy.

She took my hand when I couldn’t respond. “You know what he's like in your family; the enemy is only growing because your grandfather is good at negotiating with other groups; many people are jealous of him,” said Claire. I looked at her with a shake of my head.

“I’m their target, Claire,” I said. Her eyes widened, and she covered her mouth.

“Maybe you’re wrong, Scarlett; how will they know you're back?” she wondered. I shook my head because I didn't know either. “Don't even think about it; you're probably just tired from work and what happened today; they're waiting for you,” said Claire. I just nodded because she might be right about me being tired and saying whatever comes to mind.

We were silent for a few moments until I broke it again.

“Who was the brave person who ambushed the chairman?” I asked. I feel she looked at me.

“What will you do?” she also asked. I gave her a quick glance before driving her car.

“We’ll see,” I said. Her grin caught my attention.

“Are you back?” she asked. I shook my head. No, I will not.

I’m just curious which group dared to attack my family. “Who are they?” I asked. She became serious.

“Who else?” asked Claire. “The CEO of Young Corporation.” I remained silent because I did not know Young would do such a thing.

How come? What made this happen? I know dickhead is a jerk. The Knights are innocent. In fact, my grandfather helped them in recovering from their company's bankruptcy.

We would not have helped them if we had known it was going to be like this.

That jerk!

I give him an ultimatum if I see him. He is the problem for other enemies, and others may know I have returned.

F-ck. This is the worst-case scenario.
