Chapter 53: Chapter 53
“What’s up, Jaguar? I’ve been waiting here for a while.”
She also just sat there and watched Jaguar eat, and from what she could describe, Jaguar was a nobleman, who had obviously studied proper etiquette.
“Easy,”
She rolled her eyes, moved a bit, and touched on the table since Jaguar moved, as if he wasn't a man. Scarlett just rolled her eyes and gasped in the air. She just checked her watch and noticed she'd been waiting for Jaguar for two hours.
“Where are we again?” asked Jaguar after finishing his meal.
Scarlett winced and took a deep breath before taking the knife from the table and pointing it at Jaguar, who raised an eyebrow at her.
“Are you fooling me?” asked Scarlett. Jaguar winced, swallowed, and drank his wine because he’s happy with their conversation.
“Ahh… The battle at the festival? That’s what people here are used to; they bet on the contestants they want.”
Scarlett placed the knife on the table and leaned back in her chair.
“Many business executives come to the island to gamble or invest when they win.”
Scarlett nodded as she listened to Jaguar’s sayings.
“This festival’s battle will be more interesting than last year’s,” said Jaguar with a smile, but he paused when he noticed someone watching them.
He saw Dominic and Sophia, the people who had been watching them for a while, and he grinned as he noticed them.
Jaguar stood up and bowed down to approach Scarlett, who took aback.
“What the f-ck?” Scarlett whispered, but Jaguar just grinned and put his lips close to Scarlett’s ear while glaring at Sophia, whose eyes widened, and she pulled Dominic out of the scene.
Jaguar took a deep breath and returned to his seat.
“What are you doing?”
Jaguar shook his head.
“I’m sorry he-he. I saw a mosquito near your ear.”
Scarlett gave him a cold stare. “How do I get into the hideout without getting caught?”
Jaguar came to a halt and raised his brows. “Do you want to see Erin?”
Scarlett averted her gaze and took a deep breath. “Of course. Erin has been in jail for a few days, and I’m just wondering if he’s okay.”
Jaguar nodded and handed Scarlett some paper.
“Let’s meet there tonight,” Jaguar remarked as he stood up to leave, but Scarlett stopped him.
“Tonight?”
Jaguar grinned and nodded as he grabbed her shoulder. “You’ll be seeing Eric Knight tonight.”
Jaguar and his staff left the restaurant. Scarlett looked at him and then at the paper with the address where they were going to meet tonight.
“Who is he, Scarlett?”
Scarlett came to a halt, put the paper in her pocket, and looked at the person.
“Dominic.”
Dominic gave her a serious look.
“Who is he?”
Scarlett frowned and stood up, saying, “You don’t have to know, Dominic.” Scarlett was going to leave when Dominic stopped her, so she turned to face him.
“Do you no longer love me, Scarlett?”
Dominic’s question took aback, Scarlett and looked at him.
“I came here because I wanted to fix whatever was broken, to correct all my mistakes,” Dominic explained. Scarlett grinned as she took her arm from Dominic.
“All your mistakes can no longer be fixed because they are all marked in my heart that you cheated on me,” Scarlett stated. She exhaled. “We cannot fix what is long gone; I hoped you had considered that before you cheated on me with my sister,” she said as she turned her back on Dominic, but she remembered something and looked at her again.
“Go back to Manila, Dominic. Protect our kids. Make up for the few years they haven’t been with you, be a father to them.” said Scarlett. “Because you’re just another mistake I’ve made in my entire life; we can't go back to how we were before, Dominic; maybe I still love you, but that doesn’t mean we’ll ever get back together.”
Scarlett exhaled and clenched her fists.
“Because it’s still hunting me, and I still can’t accept that you cheated me for my sister,” said Scarlett as she wiped her tears and left in front of Dominic.
Scarlett’s words hurt Dominic, and his shoulders dropped, and his hair became messy. He doesn’t know what else he can do to make her forgive him.
When his phone rang, he came to a halt.
“Hello?”
(“Daddy!!”)
When he heard Carrie’s voice, he smiled.
(“How’s mommy?”)
Dominic sighed and shook his head.
He didn’t know what to say to their children, especially since they were the reason he had followed Scarlett to San Martín. They are also the reason he is determined to atone for his sins against Scarlett.
“Don’t worry, she’s fine, okay?”
(“Yes, daddy, have you talked? I’m your cheerleader! I’m hoping you and mommy will get along!”)
“Y-yes, I’ll do anything for your mother; call me later, baby,”
(“Dad, I love you!”)
Dominic hung up the phone with a smile. He clenched his fists.
He is determined to help Scarlett, and would do anything to protect her. Even if Scarlett cannot forgive him, he would do whatever to keep her safe.
Even if he takes the risk… Just for Scarlett, his children, and his family.
When he arrived at Scarlett’s suite, he grinned bitterly at the people they were with and saw Scarlett remaining silent.
“So you’re not returning—”
“Have you decided to return to Manila, Dominic?” Scarlett interrupted Claire’s question to Dominic.
Dominic swallowed and took a deep breath before looking Scarlett in the eyes.
“No, Scarlett, you can’t stop me; I’ll still do what I want; even if you can’t forgive me for all my sins, I’ll do everything I can to protect you, not just for you, but also for our children,” he said.
They exchanged glances, and it was Scarlett who gave up in the end.
“Do whatever you want. But… Don’t get in the way of what I’m going to do,” Scarlett said emphatically as she slammed the door shut, leaving her colleagues to laugh.
Dominic grinned because he had still beaten Scarlett to the stare, and he knew Scarlett couldn’t handle his stares.
“So, the plan goes ahead!” Rios exclaimed, scratching his head because he had lost contact with Erin, and they couldn't move.
***
Scarlett’s departure without goodbye has caused particular trouble for the Knights. Carter Knight is still silent about what he knows because he knows his cousins will not stop.
“What should we do, guys? I can’t sit here!” Ara exclaimed, whining because they didn’t know what’s going on as long as they know that Solen Madrid became quiet.
“Are you the only one who can’t keep quiet? Could it be us as well! What the hell is going on?” Lux asked, annoyed, as he played billiards with his older brother.
“Sander!!” they yelled at Sander, who had been awake for several days because of his finding of Scarlett.
“Still nothing. Someone is blocking me. TSK,” Sander said, shaking his head because he couldn’t find Scarlett or their other cousins.
“Could Claire be blocking you?”
Sander shrugged, even if it was at computer hacking… Claire was better than him, and he was unable to deny it. Because Claire’s family is involved in computer security.
“My brothers are also missing; mom and dad are worried about them,” said Rianne, pouting.
They all came to a halt and looked at each other as they realized something.
“It could be…”
“Are they together?”
Their eyes widened, and they became irritated because it left them out.
“That’s not impossible. They disappeared at the same time. Scarlett hasn’t been found, and neither have Rios and Erin. There’s a chance they’ll be together,” Aron stated.
“How come they aren’t taking us?!? We are Knight!”
“I’m sure brother Carter is aware of something.”
They debated on what to do. Because regardless of what they do to annoy Carter… He still kept his mouth shut about their cousins, who were still missing.
They rushed out of their hiding place because they had just heard the usual shouting.
No one else… but Scarlett’s parents.
“Do you know what this is, Sharlene?”
“No! I don’t know what my daughter will do!”
“Where is she?!? Where is Scarlett?”
“I’m not certain! Please, Vernon!”
“What if her memories return?!? What if she returns to the way she was before?”
“Stop! I told you I didn’t know!”
“Are you also aware that Soledad has returned?!?”
Scarlett's father took a deep breath as Sharlene was stunned and unable to answer.
“I knew it!”
Sharlene let out a sigh. “I will not tell you anything, Vernon, and we can't stop her.”
The cousins exchanged glances and came from their hiding place.
“Who can’t we stop?” asked Hill after a brief silence.
Vernon turned to face the Knights, who remained silent.
“Is it Scarlett? How can she keep going? Where is she?”
“Rios and Erin aren’t here either! Will they be together?”
“What’s going on?”
The Knight Palace is in chaos because of unexplainable events.
“It’s my fault.”
They came to a halt and looked up at the stairs, where the Chairman was standing, followed by his Nurse.
“Chairman!”
Chairman Knight came down despite his illness. Because he is starting to feel his age.
“Grandpa. Just rest,” said Ara worriedly, supporting Chairman Knight, who had halted them.
He stood on his throne, holding his cane.
“I’ll tell you the truth,” he stated solemnly as he sat on his throne.
“Well, tell them the truth.”
They turned to face Carter, who was entering the Knight Palace, emotionless.
“We don’t have time because Scarlett’s memory of that night could return at any time,” said Carter, staring at Chairman Knight without emotion.
“What do you mean, Carter?”
He didn’t respond, instead staring at the Chairman, who sighed.
“Tell them, Chairman Knight,” said Carter as he sat on the sofa.
Chairman Knight let out a sigh.
“It was a long time ago; Fernando is my friend as well as your grandmother’s brother.”
Except for Vernon and Carter, who were the only ones who knew Fernando was Lady Josephine’s brother, everyone was surprised.
“Who is Fernando?” everyone questioned.
“The mastermind… the brain of all that is happening right now.”
They were all frowning.
“He’s the one who killed your grandmother.”
