Chapter 26: Chapter 26

When I arrived at Ken’s apartment, I got off the motorcycle and went to the front gate.

“Ken!” I yelled, but no one responded from inside their apartment, so I knocked on their gate.

“It's Ma’am Scarlett!”

There is still no response. I rubbed my hair and bit my lip because I’m not sure what I’ll do if I go up to their gate.

“Ken!” I yelled again, knocking on their gate again, but no one answered. “Ken!”

My knees are weakening because no one has shown up from out of their apartment.

I gazed inside but couldn’t get a good look because the entire apartment was closed, so I stomped around in frustration.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before returning to the apartment before proceeding to the gate, but it stunned me when someone spoke.

“Are you looking for Ken?”

When I turned around, it was the apartment’s owner, so I went down to face her.

“Is he here?” I asked. She looked at me and bowed suddenly.

“Ah, Miss Knight!”

I smiled at her and took her hand in mine, so she didn’t have to bow in front of me.

“Is Ken there? He hasn’t been to my bar in a week, and I just wanted to say hello,” I lied, but I’m worried about Ken and his entire family.

“Miss Knight, his apartment has been empty for a week.”

I frowned because he hadn’t been in work for a week as well.

“Is it true?”

She nodded to me and handed me the apartment key.

“He seemed anxious last week; he paid me for the last rent payment and gave me the key back because he said he was leaving with his family; it’s as if he’s hiding something.”

I bit my lower lip and looked around the apartment again, my gaze returning to the apartment’s owner.

“Do you notice anything different about him besides his anxiety?” I asked, and she thought and looked at me.

“I notice nothing about him at all now except his anxiety, but it seemed like someone was hanging in his apartment recently,” the owner frowned. “My tenants… They scared because men are hanging around Ken’s apartment every night.”

F-ck! My fists became clenched, but I tried to smile at the landlord.

“Is something wrong, Miss Knight?”

I shook her head and held her hand.

“I’ll go first, thank you,” I said, running back on Claire’s big bike.

The phone rang while I was riding her big bike, so I picked it up when I realized Claire was calling.

(“Hey! Where are you? Why are you leaving so suddenly? What happened?”)

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. “K-Ken…”

(“What’s wrong with Ken? Why isn’t he here?”) She asked me.

I took a deep breath and controlled back my tears.

“Please gather all the employees. I have something important to tell you.”

I took another deep breath before calling Brother Carter. Need help to find…

(“Do you want to find Ken?”)

His question dumbfounded me. How did he know I would tell him that? Does he know anything?

“Did you know he was gone?”

(“Yes, I know.”)

I frowned at him. He knows?

“How did you know he was missing? F-ck! What the hell is going on?!” I asked him, annoyed. He laughed, which made me even more annoyed with him.

Can he still laugh at this situation?

(“I know they will move. We have an enemy.”)

I frowned at him even more because I could not understand what he was saying.

“Wait, what enemy are you referring to? I’m confused!”

(“I know you’re concerned about your employee, Scarlett, but this is a fact: our entire clan has an old enemy, and they’re all around us.”)

No. Their target is not the entire clan, but I am. I read Ken’s death threats, and it aimed at me.

“Is it really the clan they’re after? Or me? I don’t remember doing anything bad for them, and I kept quiet for a few years in the province to avoid trouble!” I screamed angrily.

Furthermore, I thought only Young… they ordered to kill me, but I didn’t realize they also ordered Ken to destroy me.

“I can’t take it any longer, brother! Why can’t they face me? Why should they use someone else?!”

I held my head because what was happening was driving me insane. Just don’t get my kids involved because… I’ll track them down!

Carter let out a sigh.

(“Everything that is happening to you is their plan, from your being in the news to the shutdown of your bar and losing one of your employees.”)

Ha… I just burst out laughing because they had hurt so many people because that was their plan.

“They involved my children! They used Young, and now they're planning to use Ken to fight me!” I slammed on the brakes. “I don’t know what I can do with them!”

(“I know, I’ll take care of everything; for now, go home and send them home; we’re not sure about their security in the province, and our enemy has gotten stronger.”)

I stroked my hair and sighed loudly.

“In this situation, brother, I will not stay calm! I have to find Ken to make sure they’re in good condition! My children, brother, they cannot be involved with this!”

(“Shh… Please listen to me; I know you’re their target, and we need to keep you safe.”)

Ha… I knew it. I laughed and wiped my tears away.

“I do apologize, but I will do what I want; if you’re thinking about my condition, I’m sorry, but I’m more concerned with the state of those around me,” I said, and he was about to speak when I hung up.

I checked my phone before putting it back in my pocket, then I put on my helmet.

I will figure out why all of this is happening, and If I’m really their target, I’ll catch them while it’s still early. There, until no one else is involved.

I gripped the hand clutch tighter and dragged it back to the bar.

THIRD POV

“What?!?”

When he heard the Scarlett news, he stood up in his swivel chair.

“Yes, that’s true, sir!”

His staff placed the newspaper on his desk to confirm what he had heard.

“I told you to monitor her! Why is this happening?” asked Dominic, and they bowed. He is mad since their children will be involved here.

Since Scarlett’s mother found everything, he was the one who stayed away because the Knights’ hatred for him would grow even stronger if the truth about him and Scarlett it might reveal.

Besides that, Dominic persisted in his efforts to make amends for his children, although they were far away.

He had his staff monitor them to protect them, but this did not happen.

“How did this issue become public?” asked Dominic, his teeth gritted because of the issues.

“Not only that, boss; Ms. Knight’s bar has also been closed because they will inspect the entire establishment.”

He closed his eyes and sat down because his staff was doing nothing.

“How could you have let this happen?”

When his staff bowed, he kicked his table in anger.

“Sorry, boss; we didn’t think anyone would make it.”

Dominic was at a loss for words, so he took a deep breath and loosened his necktie.

“What are you doing here?!? Find a way! Find the person who wrote the article!” he yelled, but his men looked away, so he frowned. “What?.”

“Ah… Boss, the Knights have blocked us; they have asked us not to interfere because they have said they will take care of it.”

He just smacked the table again.

According to Dominic, Knights are like that because they would rather not ask for help from others because they can take care of it, but Scarlett and their children are his concern here.

He stood up and took his car keys to Scarlett’s place, and he won’t let Scarlett get hurt because he knows she’s going through a difficult time.

If he’s not doing anything, he can’t sleep. He will continue to move as he pleases because he would rather not be useless. Not only that, he is only worried about the safety of his family.

“I will protect my family even if I die.”
