Chapter 24: Chapter 24

THIRD POV

The mansion was quiet for a few months after the fight between the siblings, but there was still trouble ahead.

“Erin! Please tell Scarlett that her best friend is here!” Claire yelled, forcing him to accompany her to Scarlett, so they could talk.

Scarlett worked from home instead of going to work for a few days.

“Scarlett doesn’t want visitors because she’s too busy,” Erin explained. Claire rolled her eyes and stomped her feet in annoyance. “She also mentioned that you look after the bar.”

Claire screamed and slapped Erin, who was standing next to her.

“What do I know about that? GRR!” Claire muttered, knowing nothing about Scarlett’s job. All she knows is that she needs to invest money to help Scarlett.

She also knows only hacking because it is her job, and she only knows how to deceive investors. She is the owner, but Scarlett is the only one who knows how to run the business.

“Claire! It’s great to see you! Have you heard about Sophia?” asked Lux.

She gave a nod. “Erin told me!” Claire crossing her arms. “She should be thankful I wasn’t there that day; she could be in the hospital right now!”

“True! She even reported to the chairman, thinking she was the victim! TSK.”

Claire rolled her eyes in frustration because Scarlett refused to speak to them.

“Wait, what the f-ck?!”

It took aback them when they heard Arthur yell as he entered the Knights’ quarters, holding a newspaper.

“You’re making a lot of noise,” said Erin, but Arthur shook his head and placed the newspaper on the table.

“Right now, read the contents of the newspaper!”

They winced, as it was much too disturbing.

“Sheesh, there is internet!”

“Ah, just read the article! It’s currently trending!”

Claire just frowned and took out her phone to look up what Arthur was talking about on the internet, and her eyes widened when she saw what article was trending right now.

“Bullshit! Who wrote this article?!” Erin yelled, tearing up the newspaper because of the article they read.

It surprised them, but also enraged after reading about the youngest of the Knights. Scarlett is the only one who is young among them.

She is today’s headline, and it is said that there is a Knight who disobeyed the Knights’ law, and she hid in a distant place because she impregnated an unknown man and raised an illegitimate child.

They clenched their fists and Claire slammed the table because they did not know what had happened to Scarlett. Claire looked at Scarlett's cousins because no one but her, Dominic, Sophia, and Scarlett's cousins knew the truth.

Aside from that, they will not reveal what happened to the public honouring Scarlett’s privacy.

“But wait, there’s more!”

“F-ck! Holy shit! What the hell is this?”

Because of the news that is now spreading in the newspaper or on the internet, the entire mansion is in chaos. Claire held her head because she had read about Scarlett stealing money for her business.

“This is not true! Scarlett’s money it used in the bar, and I invested as well!” Claire exclaimed, throwing her phone at the news.

“They want to publicly humiliate Scarlett!”

It brought them to a halt because they remembered Scarlett, so they all looked at each other with only one thought on their minds.

“Scarlett!”

They all dashed to Scarlett’s room and flung open the door, only to find Scarlett sitting with her laptop in front of her.

“S-Scarlett…”

Scarlett smiled as she turned to face her cousins and Claire, aware of the truth.

She just laughed and shook her head. “I’m fine. I know what’s true about myself,” said Scarlett as she wiped her tears.

“Scarlett…”

Scarlett chuckled and pointed to her laptop. “Is that all they can do? They don’t know the truth, so I'm not worried.”

Claire gripped her fists and dashed inside to embrace Scarlett.

“We’ll find out whose spreading the false information,” Claire whispered. She stroked Scarlett’s back, feeling the tightness of her hug.

Claire understands her friend because she has seen her work hard just to raise her children. So, it perplexed Claire why Scarlett it has given this problem.

“It would have been okay if I were the only one, but the way they involved my children, who did not know what was going on in my life, that’s what I can’t accept.” Scarlett clenched her fists. “I’m angry with all of them because they do not know what I went through just to destroy me; they should have used me instead of my children because they will be affected,” she said, looking away from her cousins.

They are also all enraged because no one has the power to destroy their family. Nobody can tarnish each of their names.

“Damn it! We’re going to find out who wrote the article! They’re fighting a Knight.” Erin raged, punching the wall.

The news will enrage anyone. They didn’t even know the youngest Knight was going to ruin her.

“What’s going on? What’s in the news? How did the public hear about Scarlett?!”

The entire Knights’ clan had arrived.

“We didn’t make this public because it’s a major issue that will affect the entire clan!”

They all turned to look at Scarlett, who was bowing to them.

“Are you all right, Scarlett?”

She took a deep breath and turned to face them. “I’m fine, and I know what’s true; I’m sorry you got involved in my mess,” she said.

“Scarlett…”

She shook her head. “I’m perfectly fine.”

They all sighed because it was a major issue for everyone.

“Not only will the entire clan be affected, but the children as well. Damn, they are still children, but they are already involved.”

They all agreed because children it will have impacted if the situation worsens.

Vernon stood up to face everyone. “Let’s figure out whose spreading false information about my daughter, and if we figure out who they are—” Vernon paused as Scarlett’s cousins smirked at him.

“We’ll make them suffer,” they said, smirking because they were excited about what was about to happen.

“If I see them, I will kill them!”

“Me too! I’m going to get rid of him!”

“I will bring the publishing house down!”

Claire winced at Scarlett’s cousin's and felt her phone vibrate, so she stood up and walked away because she was being called.

(“I heard everything, and you know what I mean.”)

Claire smirked and turned to face them.

“OK, I’ll take care of tracking down the article,” said Claire as she hung up the phone and returned to Scarlett's side.

“Was it Brother Carter who called?” asked Scarlett. Claire smiled and nodded. She bowed as she interfered with her cousins’ work. “I’m already bugging him about his work.”

Claire patted her on the shoulder and shook her head. “You are not a bother, Scarlett; we also need to settle because your entire clan will be affected,”

Scarlett remained silent.

“Is aunt Sharlene already aware?”

Scarlett raised her head. “Mom is in the province with the kids, so she probably doesn’t know now,” said Scarlett, making Lux nod.

“It’s better so we can move.”

They should decide to move because not only the entire clan, and also Scarlett and her children’s lives, are at stake.

“The chairman called; he is returning to the Philippines, and he will speak with all of us about this issue,” Carlito Knight announced as he exited the mansion, followed by his siblings.

Vernon approached his daughter and placed his hand on her shoulder. “I'm sorry,” he apologized.

Scarlett sighed and shook her head. “Dad, I’m fine; I won’t affect because I know the truth better,” she said, holding her father's hand. “Call her, dad, but don’t tell her about this.”

Vernon stared at his daughter, but sighed because he knew she was strong.

Claire smirked when she saw Scarlett was fine, but Claire knew that everything Scarlett was doing right now, it’s force.

When Claire’s phone rang, it took aback, her and pressed the earpiece.

“Oh, yes?” asked Claire over the phone, but she frowned when she noticed something unusual about their secretary.

(“Is Ma’am Scarlett with you, Ma’am Claire? I call her, but she doesn’t answer.”)

Claire turned to Scarlett, who was talking to her cousins, and took a deep breath to confront their secretary.

“Yes, I’m with her; did anything happen at the bar, Lisa?”

(“Yes, Ma’am! Some cops came here and shut down the bar because it's allegedly illegal to build here!”)

Claire’s eyes widened as she heard what she was hearing, and she held her earpiece. Scarlett might also hear them.

“Calm down, Lisa, and tell me everything.”

Claire walked away so that no one could hear what she was saying.

(“The police are here, and they want to talk to you about the illegal papers; the employees are already here, and they’re inspecting the entire place, and they say they found cockroaches and rats; come here, Ma’am, because we don’t know what to do!”)

“WHAT?!?” Claire yelled as she heard about their bar, drawing everyone’s attention to her, but she bit her lip, wondering why this problem had to be added.

“Damn it! We’re going there!”

She hung up the phone and approached Scarlett, pulling her out of the mansion. Claire hopped onto her motorcycle and turned to face Scarlett, who was frowning at her.

“What’s going on, Claire?”

Claire didn’t respond, instead tossing the helmet she was carrying at Scarlett.

“Hop in! I’ll explain later, but now we have to go to the bar first!” said Claire, so Scarlett hopped on the motorcycle and held on tight because the motorcycle was already speeding away.

“What’s going on, Claire? We’re going to have an accident because of what you’re doing.”

Claire chuckled and sped up her motorcycle, ignoring the police who were pursuing them.

“You’ll see, my best friend.”

Claire tightened her grip on her motorcycle and stared at the road before revving it hard.

Her patience is running out.
