Chapter 55: Chapter 55

Detective Taylor who had seen their target walk past him just now was contemplating to get out and follow him when he saw the inspector follow after him in a staggered pursuit. He knew she was up to something and decided to provide assist if only needed. In other words, he stood by for a moment.

He heard her tell him to wait on ground that the boss had sent her. He couldn't believe the target was so naive to have believed that. But he frowned knowing he could actually be playing along with other intent. The detective quickly pulled out his gun, and readied himself to intervene.

He didn't leave the car already since he knew he might have to drive around the corner since they couldn't arrest him in the sideway across the club, it would raise suspicion and cause the nightclub to be alarmed.

He waited patiently and watched as inspector Roosen neared him, and walked around him towards the corner. The detective didn't see much after that. In fear that something might have happened, he reached for the door handle only to stop when he saw inspector Roosen pop her head out the corner, beckoning for him to bring the car around.

Detective Taylor's lips quivered and he couldn't help but shake his head at his partner's recklessness. Just a moment ago he had been so concerned.

He ignited the car and drove around the corner.

There he saw the target, Heath Wolfe, out cold on the floor and slumping on the building wall while Inspector Roosen stood shaking her hands that had reddened around the knuckles from the punch she'd just dealt Heath.

He gave the Inspector a thumbs up and almost let out a chuckle. He stepped out of the car to help the inspector drag the target into the car.

" As suspected, something shady is going on in there. I guess they must have noticed our presence by now, so we better move and have the team sweep the place." while crouching, Inspector Roosen warned as she held one of Heath's side to carry him.

" Got it" Detective Taylor nodded and carried the target by his other side.

They threw him into the backseat and inspector Roosen got in the backseat to handcuff him and search him while the detective quickly ignited the car to leave the scene.

Inspector Roosen found a gun, and her heart almost dropped knowing she could have gotten shot just now if she had been careless. However, she cuckled when she saw the gun was unloaded.

It's only a bluff!

She put the gun away and continued searching afterwards. The inspector found the flash drive and some stack of dollars in Heath's pocket.

" Taylor, I think we got something" She said pointing the flash drive towards detective Taylor who was driving the car ahead.

The latter glanced over and frowned seeing the flash drive.

...

The next day, Friday...

Val was especially nervous at work. As she walked through the showroom, her face seemed especially anxious and alerted, it was obvious that there was something off about her. Even she knew she was acting weird.

She felt naked and as though someone would see through her motive. It wasn't long ago that the Laguna teardrop incident happened and she was going to sneak into Courtney's office today?

' But it is necessary...' Besides, attorney Chris had already assured her, and Bob knew about this. She didn't try calling nor texting him as attorney Chris had further informed that his phone might be tapped by the cops.

Moreso, all she had to do was make certain that Courtney and Margarette had left work before she made a move. Everything else should work out someway somehow...

" Morning, Ms Val" Daisy, the receptionist, greeted as Val passed by to the elevator.

" Morning, Daisy" Val greeted in return. Her voice sounded a little coquettish as she was startled out of her thought by the receptionist's sudden intrusive greeting.

Val walked as calmly as she could towards the elevator, with a smile she didn't know was wry plastered across her pretty face.

" Weird, she isn't always like this..." Daisy muttered but quickly shook her head to focus on the job at hand.

' Smile, Daisy... Smile' Daisy thought bitterly, long lines were beginning to form at the corner of her lips as she smiled all day. She would only cry about it and complain all to herself when she got home after work. Daisy was stuck between her job and her appearance, she couldn't bare it any longer.

" I seem a little too nervous. I have never snuck into places before, not since high school I think. Haah! how did I get myself into this?" Val muttered in a soft sigh.

Fortunately, she met no one on the way to her office and she planned to avoid meeting with other employees as much as she could to not rouse suspicion with her awkward actions.

Thankfully, a conference meeting had already been conducted days before when Val was still quite calm and collected. So she didn't have to fear having to face anyone at the moment.

Just as she got into her office, Val noticed a white envelope on her desk. Surprised, she looked around as if to check if anyone was in the office. However, seeing no one, she dropped her bag and picked up the envelope.

Opening it, Val saw a black card with few golden details. It was a key card!

" This is gonna be a long day..." Val sighed.

...

In the Seattle police department at the East precinct, where the jurisdiction of the investigation of Adam Mash's murder case falls.

Inspector Roosen and Detective Taylor both looked dreary and tired with a morning coffee in both of their hands as they looked through the reports on their respective tables. They had both been awake throughout the night and had worked a 24 hour shift cracking this very murder case.

However, they seemed just as active as though they had a good night rest. They were getting closer to the truth of the case and it only remained to find the real murderer.

After having returned to the police department, they had the special forces raid the night club but as expected, they were evasive and smart enough to clear off all evidences that may lead to illegal business. None of them even had guns on them, save for the few. As for the Lords and Don, as Heath described them, they were nowhere to be found. Only the underlings were apprehended and taken into custody for interrogation regarding the club activities.

Just as they returned to the department, they had brought " sleeping beauty", As inspector Taylor would call him, into the interrogation room and had laid him to sleep with his head laid on the table. Then, they asked the data analysts to analyze the flash drive and find if there were any content that could lead them to the culprit.

They had stayed and saw a clip on the flash drive, showing a woman talking to some tall man with a tall build, along with a third person who sat in an imposed manner. It was Detective Taylor who first spoke of the woman's identity to be Courtney Richardson- Bob Richardson's wife. Just as Courtney had suspected, Bob was telling the truth about being framed by her.

Courtney had hired the Don to kill Adam Mash!

Detective Taylor had guessed that the tall scarred man was the Don, while the other man was none other than the culprit they had been looking for... Marquis Cortez.

At that moment, a lot of questions had to be asked and they had just the right person to ask.

Heath had woken up, and he was very shocked and surprised to see he'd been arrested.

Realizing the lady he thought to be a hooker was actually a cop, Heath didn't know whether to laugh or cry. One thing he knew was that he was screwed.

One of his worst nightmares was getting caught being a criminal. It could be said that he finally worked his way into it.

At first he had refused to cooperate with Inspector Roosen and Detective Taylor but with persuasions to help him in court and with the threat of going to jail alone for something he hadn't done while the culprits walked around freely, he finally confessed.

It turned out that Courtney had consulted the Don to kill Adam Mash and frame Bob for the murder just to facilitate their divorce case as speculated. And the Don had recorded everything to blackmail her in the future.

This was Heath's mission just few hours before he got arrested. Everything began to add up.

" It's really crazy how the rich think. I still don't understand why she would go to such extent all for money and property?" Detective Taylor spoke with a melancholic expression. His job pushed him to face the harshest reality of society and it really was disheartening.

Detective Taylor neither hated Bob nor liked him. He wouldn't say that Bob was a righteous person either. In fact, he despised the man's guts.

However, he couldn't deny the fact that it was cruel what his wife was making him go through. He knew if she could, she probably would have had him killed a long time ago without batting an eyelid.

" Leave it. This is how the world works. You give or you forcefully take. Besides, it's not like you'll ever know what this is like, even with all the pensions after retiring." Inspector Roosen stated whilst her gaze was still fixated in the report. Contrary to the joke she made, she had other thoughts in her mind.

Inspector Roosen herself felt that it was baffling how Courtney Richardson would do all of this, only to lose everything in the end. If she had only been patient she would have gotten more than she deserved and recompense for everything. She didn't have to take things this far.

Even if Bob had done her wrong in the past and she wanted revenge so bad. Doing this was the worst way to go about that. She was basically being the devil's incarnate, totally wrong and evil in every perspective her actions were viewed from.

"Haha!" Detective Taylor sighed with a shake of his head. He was spent and tired after having worked on this case for days and nights. He wanted to end things already.

" The guys are out to find Marquis Cortez, But how do we find Courtney and arrest her? Intel says she's out of town now." Detective Taylor brought the inspector's attention to a matter of relevance. He stopped talking about Courtney's cruelty and pushed it off his mind just as Inspector Roosen had advised.

" We shouldn't spook her. She'd be in town for the divorce trial tomorrow. So we should wait till that moment." Inspector Roosen informed.

" The trial? Wait... Hold on just a second... you're not thinking of arresting her in the court right? That's impossible!" Detective Taylor who had a strong sense of formality frowned and exclaimed.

" We'll just have to convince the judge, won't we then?" The inspector grinned.
