Chapter 50: Chapter 50
Just as Val got home that night after the conversation with Attorney Chris. She heaved a deep sigh and headed straight up the stairs to her bedroom.
She soon met the sight of the slightly unkempt room with flawless settings that imbibed comfort. The sheets were just as she left them in the morning, and there was a coffee mug from the night before on the work desk scattered with files.
She was planning on her fashion brand business and was drafting a business idea using Citadel's as a prototype.
Val swept her gaze from all of this to the button of her shirt. Still with thoughts as to the mission of infiltrating Courtney's office. She slowly undressed while thinking,
' It's kinda risky that I get involved in this, if I'm caught, that woman generally wouldn't be taking it lightly. Or could I pretend to switch to her side, only to ditch her by the last minute?... But she obviously wouldn't buy that...' Val dismissed the idea. If anything, she'd only be raising suspicion if she did that.
' In any case, I must ensure that it is safe before I even attempt. Also, I have to be careful around Maggie?'
Thud!
Her dress dropped gently on the floor. She untied the ponytail and swooped her hair behind her, making it unfurl like a curtain on her back.
' Well, I could make it seem like I left and came back to pick up something. She should be out of the office at that hour. But the security personnel... I guess Bob and attorney Chris would take care of that. But can they be trusted? Would another unfortunate event occur?' Val had doubts. Bob couldn't leave Seattle at the moment and attorney Chris couldn't be trusted, even though he was now being as professional as he should.
In nothing but black undies, Val picked up her phone and ordered for dinner before she walked towards the bathroom.
' Bob probably wouldn't want anything bad to befall me, so attorney Chris wouldn't dare mess with him... Besides, his certification is at stake here. As long as Bob is in on this, then I have no reason to fear being caught. After all, Bob owns the company.'
Val shrugged and went to take a seething bath in the bathtub. It took half an hour since she had a lot to think about while in such a relaxed state.
Val soon came out of the bath with a white clean towel wrapped around her body and another smaller one wrapped around her head. With her skin slightly glowing, she beamed with satisfaction and yearned for a good night's rest.
Ding dong!
the doorbell resounded in a dull tone through the walls and Val still in her towel went to answer the door.
' Must be the delivery guy!' This time for sure it had to be. After all, Bob couldn't leave Seattle.
' Or can he?'
Val made it down the stairs and unlatched the lock to slightly open the door. Only for her facial expression to freeze seeing who it was.
" W-what! H-how?" Val was unsure of what question to ask first.
Was it regarding his purpose or how he knew her place? Then her eyes widened when she realized that he might have tailed her.
" Listen, I mean no harm... I just wanna talk" Mark raised his hand to convey his intent.
Val frowned for a while as she contemplated Mark's words, unwilling to believe they were true.
" Can I come in?" Mark asked quite sweetly and politely.
Val looked behind her in thought.
After a while, she stood aside and opened the door for him to come in, hoping she wasn't making a wrong decision.
Mark stepping into the house looked around judging the place. He nodded his head in acknowledgment of the place's allure as he walked into the parlor. He didn't miss Val's enticing appeal in those towels wrapped around her as well. It hurt him knowing he could never touch that woman, never again.
...
" Shouldn't we wait for the boys to confirm his routine and all first? Plus, the forensics haven't confirmed the DNA yet" Detective Taylor argued. He'd always been a cautious officer.
" Wanna bet?" Inspector Roosen said as she searched like a hawk at the club just front through the windscreen of her car.
It was night time and there were no street lights. The only light that illuminated the area was that of the club, and it could only do much to cover the vast darkness that veiled the streets.
They hid amidst the darkness of the street in the trail of Kash Garza. They had received information that he was last seen coming into the club.
" Moreover, doesn't the record in the database state that he's lived a life of crime his entire life anyway? The more time we waste in acting, the worse things get for us" the Inspector said.
Just as she finished saying, a slightly tall guy with quite a big frame walked out of the club with two pretty ladies stuck to each of his sides. He wore a baggy white top over a big black jean and his wrists were covered in golden bling. He puffed and huffed cigar smoke in the air as he walked towards the park, his legs a little wobbly from all the drinks he'd obviously had.
" Hahaha! Let's go to mine, baby girls!" His loud voice resounded in a dull echo through the night from Detective Taylor and Inspector Roosen's point of view.
" That's him!" Detective Taylor who had long given up the argument quickly informed as he looked in the picture of Kash that he'd taken from the file report.
Although Kash seemed a bit fatter and bulkier than he looked in the pictures, the unique oval shape of his bald head was just as in the picture, it couldn't be mistaken in any regard.
Inspector Roosen was silent. She just watched as the girls giggled and got in a pimped sedan right after Kash who had the key to the car.
Detective Taylor did the same, understanding the protocol. They didn't make any move because it was risky to do so since he was still in front of the club. Instead, after confirming his identity, they decided to do something different. That too, they made this decision without exchanging words or glances. The two had been partners for years, after all, they didn't need such communication to understand themselves.
It wasn't until Kash had driven off a little far that Inspector Roosen ignited the car, intending to follow in a trail behind Kash's car.
It was unknown if he had allies around the corner. And there was only the two of them. So they had to utilize experience and be careful until the suspect was alone.
They drove around for a couple of minutes due to Kash driving weirdly. At times he sped, at times he slowed down and at other times he would stop the car midway. Inspector Roosen had to follow through this process as well to avoid suspicion.
When he'd suddenly sped up earlier, she'd thought he caught on and had suspected he was being followed, only for him to slow down again. Inspector Roosen was infuriated and wanted so badly to stop Kash now. However, she was convinced by Detective Taylor to exercise patience, or they could lose their lives.
Soon, they got to an apartment where the car was parked. At first, they didn't do anything as they only drove towards the house as though they were only passing by.
" He's alone!" Detective Taylor who'd been on the watch informed and Inspector Roosen took a swift turn to park right behind Kash Garza's sedan.
They quickly moved out of the car with their hands on their gun holsters seeing Kash step out of the car with another key different from that of his car in hand.
" Haha! Daddy..." The ladies in skimpy dresses giggled as they followed behind Kash, causing the latter to gloat giddily.
" Stop! Don't move. This is the Seattle PD!" Detective Taylor aimed his gun at Kash as he shouted authoritatively in a tone that spoke of experience. His soft and gentle demeanor had totally dissipated into that of an authoritative officer.
" Put your hands where we can see them," Inspector Roosen said, knowing he could be hiding a gun.
The ladies froze and quickly turned around, flailing their hands innocently while they squealed in fright.
" W-what'd I do?" Kash asked without turning around, he slowly raised his hands to clasp them behind his head, complying with the officer's instructions.
" Ladies, step away slowly" Inspector Roosen informed without taking her eyes off Kash for a second.
The ladies wailed as they tip-toed in their heels, they ran around the car and rushed away. " Eeek!"
That was dangerous, after all, they could be Kash's accomplices and could have a gun. However, Inspector Roosen made a professional conjecture. They were probably hookers with no guts for such a thing. It was only more paperwork for her underlings to take such harmless chicks into custody, and totally of no relevance. Besides, there was only so much space for just Kash Garza in the car, not enough for more company.
" fuck it!" Just then, Kash attempted to escape towards the side of the apartment using the car as a cover.
Bang!
" Aah!"
Detective Taylor's gun blew in a resonant echo through the silence and the inspector quickly moved to suppress Kash without batting an eyelid.
Kash rolled on the floor with his hands clutching his right thigh.
" Fuck!" He cursed with gritted teeth amidst pain.
" Aaah!!!" The girls screamed as they ran away from the scene with their heels clacking. Detective Taylor didn't spare any effort towards them, instead, he followed in suit behind the inspector to make the arrest.
Inspector Roosen arriving beside Kash Garza kicked away the gun that had fallen beside the suspect. She bent to grab his hands and quickly handcuffed them behind him
' He really had a gun!' The inspector was surprised.
" Let me!" Detective Taylor took the initiative to help Kash and take him into the car.
Inspector Roosen took out her handkerchief and grabbed Kash's gun before following behind Detective Taylor who struggled to forcefully drag Kash to the car.
The inspector stopped behind to search Kash's car in the meantime. She found some illegal drugs and weed in them, she took them as well as evidence.
Inspector Roosen grabbed her walkie-talkie and filed a report before returning to the car.
" Good job!" She said with a smirk to detective Taylor who now sat in the backseat beside Kash Garza who wheezed in pain, to ensure the criminal's subduction in the back seat.
" I call mission success!" Inspector Roosen said as she ignited the car and drove off towards the department. Detective Taylor only shook his head and sighed.
