Chapter 34: Chapter 34
Almost an hour later, Mark walked in small gaits towards Maggie's office with a confident smile worn on his face. He had just resumed work within his daily shift and hadn't even been in his office yet when Kaitlyn approached him to tell him of Maggie's request for him to see her in her office as soon as he got to office.
Mark already understood what was going on. He'd noticed the awkwardness in the showroom downstairs and had even deliberately asked Daisy just to be sure. Of course, his thoughts were confirmed. It is exactly as he pictured.
As much as they tried to hide it in their actions, everyone in the company already knew about the missing jewelry and were covertly discussing probable suspects.
'Today, is the day I win...' Mark grinned as he turned the door knob and entered into the well-organized office of professional disposition allowing for concentration towards work.
" Mr Hawkins" Maggie called out as she raised her gaze from the files in her hands which she was prior working on. She reached a finger to raise the frame of her glasses to fit them well on her nose thin nose bridge.
Ever since she learnt that Mark was behind the missing Laguna teardrop, she had stopped worrying about not being able to retrieve it.
Mark only gave a nod as he calmly shut the door behind him before proceeding to take a seat on the vacant chair facing Maggie.
" I believe the Laguna teardrop is safe?" Kaitlyn maintained an emotionless expression as she asked right after Mark sat down.
" Hahaha! gimme a break." Mark laughed out loud. He was feeling so high and on top this very day. However, seeing the serious look on Maggie's face, he collected himself.
" It is very safe. Heh! And if you don't believe me, I could in fact, show you. Hmm? " Mark chuckled and made a formal gentleman salute; bowing and extending a hand to the side with his palm facing upwards as though he were a magician at the beginning of a show.
Maggie sighed and nodded her head as she gently pushed back her chair and stood.
" But first... we have to make a search" Mark stated as rose and tucked on the hem of his suit.
" A search?" Maggie muttered in thought. She didn't expect Mark to take the initiative. This made things even easier for her.
" Yes, a fine thorough search..." Mark smirked.
Maggie pretended she was contemplating the idea for a while," I get it."
" But in any case, we have to make it all seem real." Maggie reached over her desk to dial the landline.
Mark was left wondering about what she meant with her words and current actions.
" Miss Daisy, inform all employees except the assistants that there's an emergency meeting to be held in the conference room."
" Yes ma'am!"
Mark hearing this flashed a grin, he already knew what Maggie was planning to do.
Creak! slam!
" M-miss--" A brawny man of average height with receding hairline rushed into the office. He seemed surprised to see Mark in the office with Margarette, but he quickly composed himself as he faced the COO to inform her of his findings.
Mark smiled subtly at this.
" We couldn't find anything. Footages on the showroom have all been deleted and there's no evidence pointing towards the culprit. We might have a tough time finding them." The man related in an alarming tone.
' So he's in on this too. I never imagined Mark could convince the chief security officer as well. How formidable...' Maggie thought.
" Haah! I understand your plight Mr Porter. I believe the first step of action to take is to make an internal search. I and Mr Hawkins have discussed this." Maggie informed.
Mr Porter, the chief security officer, looked towards Mark and nodded his head. " Alright. I'll get my men ready." He said and left swiftly.
Meanwhile, Val had just woken up from her sleep. Having been very tired from all that transpired from the day before, she slept for long hours.
Val sat up in bed and wrapped her arms around her knees to have an early morning thought on how messed up her life currently was. The fact that she was pregnant for a stranger whom she hadn't even spoken to for a long while now, and the weird guy feeling she had towards having collapsed at Attorney Chris' room last night still haunted her and she even had a dream about it. With the hope that perhaps, this was one of the drawbacks in the first trimester that she'd heard about, she thought to call in for work and inform that she was taking a day off to visit the hospital.
Prrr! Prr!
Just then her mobile phone vibrated and she raised her brows at the coincidence when she saw who it was. She had the number saved from frequent calls and interactions they had made, so Val was much less agitated to be called by Daisy. She probably was calling to inform her of some important information regarding work,
" Hey Daisy, I was just about calling in."
" Ms Valerie, where are you!?" Daisy's alerted voice boomed through the cell phone speaker, causing Val to frown.
" At home, why?" Val could tell something was wrong.
" Hurry! there's an emergency meeting! Something happened!" the receptionist exclaimed unable to hold back her tongue as usual.
Hearing this, Val expressed deep concern.
" W-what happened?"
" The Laguna teardrop is found missing just this morning. The whole company is in turmoil and we're looking to find it right now... All the other managers are here now, you should hurry before they start suspecting you!" Daisy briefly explained the situation and advised.
" I'll be there just now!" Val didn't make small talks and cut the call. She sat up from bed and hurried to the closet to get dressed.
' Daisy is right. Not being at work when such a thing happens is bound to draw suspicion' And thus, she had to be there as soon as she could to explain her point of view. Fortunately, Citadel's was only few minutes away from her.
