Chapter 32: Chapter 32
Ollie strode down into the underground parking garage looking over his shoulder every now and then. He held his hands down deep into his pockets, obviously protective of what was inside.
Since it was past the official time for closing, there were few cars around. Ollie was simply able to find the one he was looking for without much difficulty. He hastened with hurried steps towards the white SUV that stood out amidst the cars parked about, His feet finely clapped on the concrete floor in quick rhythm as he navigated the blue-grey variant painted pillars to cover his appearance from being in view. He was being extremely cautious, and unknowingly suspicious...
In the white SUV car, Mark just watched with brimming impatience as Ollie made a fool of himself.
' Wouldn't he have gotten in the car already before anyone else would notice him if he just walked up directly? Why is he wasting time, hiding from no one in particular?' Mark thumped a fist at the steering with a creased gaze, feeling perhaps he'd made a grave mistake.
Clamp!
When Ollie finally got in the car, Mark didn't waste any more time as he went straight to business,
" You got it?"
Ollie didn't say anything, he only bent a little to the right to pull out his left hand from his pocket. Out with the hand came a certain artifice of allure.
Even with the dim lighting that shone into the car, the Laguna teardrop glistened iridescently like a lake in broad daylight. The blue-green turquoise luminescence of its pendant illuminated the intricate diamond necklace of perfect artisanry. It has tiny colorful diamonds in the shade of blue and green embedded on the pendant chain that was tiny and also made of diamonds.
Ollie flashed an accomplished smile when he saw the surprised look on Mark's face that soon turned into that of genuine gladness.
" Good job! I knew I could trust you" Mark took the jewelry from Ollie's hands. He raised it to observe the details, and he was stunned for a second at the beauty of the jewelry piece. Mark was enthralled by its intricate pattern of magnificent and elegant design.
' It's no wonder it's such a rare piece.' Mark thought to himself as he took out his handkerchief and gently placed the Laguna teardrop on it.
The Laguna teardrop has been in the showroom for as long as Mark can remember, it had no buyer since its price was especially high at the mark of almost a million dollars.
" Mr Mark, about that thing you promised me?" Ollie mustered the courage to ask. He needed to be certain he wasn't being fooled and taken advantage of.
" Yeah, yeah, it'll be done." Mark dismissed.
Click! clack!
Hearing the dull sound of heels clicking from outside, Mark quickly raised his gaze to see who it was.
" You can leave now, Ollie" He instructed sternly. Seeing Kaitlyn approaching his car, he thought of handing the necklace to Ollie to deliver it to his planted executioner but he couldn’t trust Ollie with such delicate matters. Mark felt the need to see to this himself if he wanted to make things work.
" But-"
" You heard me" Mark reinstated in a warning tone.
Ollie made a difficult face, he clenched his teeth and hesitantly pushed the door of the car open before stepping out. Annoyed, he slammed the door and stomped his feet as he walked away.
Kaitlyn noticed this but didn’t make any comment until she got in Mark’s car. Ollie was renowned for his weirdness in the company by almost every female employee, and she wondered just what business Mark had with him.
“ What’s that?” Kaitlyn asked just as she settled in the front seat beside Mark when she saw him wrapping what seemed like a necklace she'd seen somewhere before in his handkerchief before tucking it in his pocket. She thought the necklace was very familiar but found it hard to remember where she'd seen it try as she could.
“ An investment baby...” Mark responded with a sly smile.
Kaitlyn stared at Mark for a long while, giving thought to what was going on.
' Ollie... pendant necklace... investment?' Kaitlyn frowned deeply as she tucked a strand of her hair behind her ears and said; “ Well, here I am thinking it was something you got for me”
Mark ignored her and slowly reached to ignite his car. “ coming to mines?” he asked.
“ No. Drop me off by my place” Kaitlyn pouted and said looking out the window.
Mark paused to think for a while but decided to stay silent.
"Okie dokie" As he drove out of the underground parking garage, he had the thought to spend some time at Kaitlyn's before going home to celebrate the nigh victory in a sex feist with some of his significant others.
...
Val slammed the door behind her when she got home. She heaved a deep sigh and touched a palm at her forehead as she got herself a glass of water and headed upstairs to her bedroom afterward.
She was totally spent, thirsty, and especially confused. On her way back home in the cab, Val gave thought to what had happened at Attorney Chris' apartment, she had a strange feeling something was off about everything.
' Why would he leave me concussed on the bed and not take the initiative to bring me to a hospital?' Val was baffled. However, she couldn't fathom the situation either. Plus, the fact that she felt weird all over her body after waking up suggested something questionable...
' But it could be when he was helping me to bed...' Val wanted to believe this was so, but there was this gut feeling telling her something was wrong. Which was odd since Val was unable to connect the dots. Knowing she had fallen unconscious like this in the past, Val understood it was probable that this was what happened this time as well. And attorney Chris being a lawyer with his career at stake obviously wouldn't do something of the sort right?
" Haah!" Val sighed as she fell into bed.
' I'm thinking too much. I know too little about pregnancy... In any case, I should take a day off of work tomorrow and visit the hospital. Maybe I can confirm my thoughts this way' Val made a basic plan for the next day.
