Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Val scrolled through her phone as she read a blog about the young multi-billionaire, Bob Richardson and his wife's divorce trial. With as much confidentiality intended by both parties, news about the divorce still got out.

Val, however, thought it couldn't be the deed of anyone else but Courtney. It's either one of her schemes or possibly Bob's opponents in the business sector pulling strings to ruin his repute.

Nonetheless, it became the talk of town as Bob's identity as the owner of several companies came out to be known. Even Valerie was surprised as to just how industrious and especially rich Bob was.

It wasn't a surprise that not many people knew who Bob was, he was more of a reserved person who liked to keep a low profile. Yes he owned a lot of prominent companies all through the states, but most people only cared about the brand names.

However, with all that was going on now all over the internet and on all social platforms regarding the divorce trial, Val felt his past fame would only be unlikely to what it used to be from now on.

'Just cause he's rich doesn't make any man a lesser scumbag!'

'Rich bastard. He must have been abusing the poor lady. I'm glad she realized riches aren't all there is to a relationship... I'm glad she decided to file a divorce. Fistpumps! He gets what he deserves!'

' Holy shit! this dude is so fucking rich. Why does he bother to drag the divorce trial when they could just strike a negotiation?'

' Go Courtney, get what's yours!'

Everyone had their opinion on the matter.

' It's always people hiding behind keyboards with no knowledge about either of the couple's lives that have the most to say.' Val was disgusted at how judgemental people could be. There only had to be a leak on Courtney's grounds of filing the divorce being a forged story of abuse, and suddenly, everyone had a thing or two to say. She was also mad at how misleading the social media is.

But most of all, Val was disgusted at Courtney!

' To think such a beautiful and talented woman who stood at the top of a top-tier company like Citadel's would be made to go through so much unfairness by a cruel man. Such a shame!'

Val frowned seeing the comments of people, majorly the feminine gender calling Bob all sorts of name. Though she knew they were only speaking out of ignorance. But it doesn't change the fact that they're wrong. Val suddenly had the urge to leave a comment to clear the air, but she knew she shouldn't.

Val wouldn't even be surprised if this was all Courtney's doing to facilitate the public's influence on the trial.

Val had received a detailing about the trial from Attorney Chris, and she had to agree that the way his wife had portrayed him and played the victim was something else she found hard to believe. How could something be put up with so much bullshit, without a face to save for herself?

If it weren't for the fact that she knew the truth of the matter, even Val would have agreed that Bob was no less a scum like Mark after all the fabricated claims Courtney had made.

It was even a surprise that no one knew nor talked about how Bob had challenged his paternity to their child. Well, Attorney Chris did on his behalf.

Is that part kept confidential then?' Val crossed her legs as the conjecture that Courtney had leaked information about the trial started to make more sense.

Val rolled on her bed and put her phone down. She'd had enough of the hateful and irrelevant comments on the blog.

She stared at the ceiling wondering how and why there was so much mess. Bob was willing, more than willing to settle the divorce amicably, but Courtney wasn't. The latter claims she deserved more than everything Bob has after having helped him build his life... A life that Bob had built all by himself before she came into.

Val didn't understand Courtney's thought process. Why go after everything Bob has, when you can just have a fair amount and leave. But no, the vixen wanted more. Is there a reason why? Not certainly! As much as she tried, Val couldn't see any reason for Courtney's actions.

It must all be nothing but greed!

Val hought of herself being in Courtney's situation, filing a divorce against Mark? Even with him being such a man and after everything he'd done to her, she didn't think it necessary that she would drag him into a divorce trial, aiming to suck him dry in revenge.

But if she did, hers would be justified, wouldn't it?

On the other hand, Courtney was clearly at fault. Giving birth to a child out of wedlock. Yet, she claims she deserves everything Bob has.

If anything, Val thought Courtney was more of a scum than even Mark. Val wasn't certain if even Mark would do such a thing. The lady is purely evil, and although Val felt the need to not judge, she still felt that she should.

Courtney literally had everything, a rich caring and handsome man. She has a job, she's wealthy, got all kinds of jewelries and properties... everything. And she was going to pay Bob back with a child outside of wedlock, and swindle him of a half and quarter of all of his riches. What a devil?

Val sneered as she suddenly thought of something else...

Val didn't feel fine that their plan regarding Mark wasn't working. Of course, Bob had said he wasn't the best bet, but as of this moment, Bob needed as much allies as he could. She felt the need to bring this to Bob's notice, so she picked her phone to send Attorney Chris a message.

However, a thought occured to Val and she slowly put down her phone at the sudden realization...

Even if she brought this to Bob's notice, it wasn't as though she was bringing any relevant idea to the table to solve the problem.

She felt the need to make a contribution to help Bob gather more evidence against Courtney in the trial. After reading the blog, she suddenly felt the urge to help Bob out as she felt it was totally unfair.

She didn't seem to think of the reason behind this to be anything else, or maybe Val just wouldn't acknowledge and term it as what it is.

Val moved out of bed to the work table where there were few files. She picked up a pen and a paper and slowly sat down to think of ways to help Bob. Val tuck her hair behind her ear as she read through one paper to the other.

The position she was currently in in Citadel's was quite relevant and prestigious. If in any way she was going to help Bob, it had to be through her influence as a manager. However, the problem was how?

The previous goal was to create a scene where Courtney would have gone after Mark to shut him up regarding what had happened between them. Bob had men at watch to follow Mark in case this ever happened so they could capture the moment as evidence. However, as it seems, that isn't going to happen in a while, if not never.

It was obvious that Courtney already realized this, and was now avoiding the situation as much as she could. Now, how was evidence that they both once had an affair be obtained?

After hours of brainstorming, Val gave up the idea after not being able to come up with any.

' Haa! Is anything ever even gonna work out?' Val sighed exasperatedly.
