Chapter 16: Chapter 16

Mark stormed into his office with a loud slam of the door.

" How was it?" Kaitlyn hurried to ask but seeing the look on Mark's face, she became silent. She had suggested that he write a letter to Val to at least save them faces in the company... and make a pact with Val.

Kaitlyn knew that Mark had done really bad to Val. And she shared a responsible part of the blame as well. After all, Kaitlyn was Mark's side piece when he was still with Val. But since Val was moving on, she should be able to make peace with them right?

Kaitlyn hadn't given a thought to whether she'd have taken Mark's apology if it were to be her on the other side of the story in place of Val.

Mark clearly hasn't given a thought to it either!

" Tsk! your idea was not the best in any way!" He retorted and pointed. " Now I don't know what that wench could do. I could literally get sacked!" Mark paced about.

" She seems in cohort with Ms Courtney and her husband, the owner..." He stated with his face flushed red from all the frustration as he paced back and forth.

He'd realized that Val couldn't have gotten into her position without having the higher-ups backing her. From what he'd heard, Val was said to have been seen brought into the company first by the owner himself.

However, it is known that the owner had little to no influence in the company and that it was the CEO's decisions that mattered the most.

But Mark couldn't be more wrong...

After all, this was what Bob had wanted everyone to think all along. Which was what still annoyed Courtney the most as he made her feel quite inferior.

Mark had a feeling that Val's appointment as a managing director was Courtney's doing. After all, he had something together with the CEO, and perhaps she was trying to send a message across.

' Is this a threat or a plan to get me sacked by misconduct? I have to confront her'

" I need to find a way to speak with the CEO... " Mark muttered his thought listlessly, forgetting he was not alone in the office.

Kaitlyn frowned hearing what Mark had just said.

" What!? Why, and how the hell are you going to do that?" Everyone knew just how the CEO was. Just setting sight on her was an arduous task than any employee's demanding job. No one in the company prayed to ever have to face her. She was fierce, and just really scary with the way she does things.

It's rare that she requested to meet anyone but the managers, it was even more rare for assistant managers like Mark.

However, Mark had just insinuated such a gibberish talk about requesting to meet and speak with the CEO. She stared at his head as if some damage had been done to it by his ex-wife and wondered if all of the things that had recently been happening wasn't taking a toll on his mental health already.

"Do not worry about that" Mark stated and went to his sit in his chair behind the desk to bury his head in work.

' Certainly delusional!' Kaitlyn just stared in disbelief, she couldn't believe he could still work with everything that was happening. Shouldn't he he worried about getting sacked?

' Val wouldn't be that cruel in her revenge so much that she'll get me sacked as well right? I'm a woman like her, of course she'll understand...' Kaitlyn thought.

" W-well, I think I also have some work to do..." Kaitlyn muttered to herself and stood to leave, quite in a hurry. She seemed worried about losing her job.

....

" But the trial isn't till the 1st of September right? why do you have to leave so early?" Maggie questioned whilst holding the back seat car door through which Courtney had just entered the car.

The dim light of the underground car park illuminated her tall and sexy figure with her lips smeared in thick red lipstick slightly apart.

Her prior serious demeanor had absolutely evaporated as her gaze was only full of longing.

" I have some preparations to make. Why?" Courtney raised her gaze to ask.

Silence reigned in the underground car park that had just about an amount of employee cars of various brands and model left in parking. Save for the security personnels working the night shift, everyone else had closed from work for the day.

Maggie peered a glance at the third person present and seeing how the driver just sat there in the front seat like a mannequin, and just stared upfront at nothing in particular as though he wasn't even present, she shook her gaze back to Courtney and said,

" I'll m-miss you" Maggie stuttered as she said and stared at the concrete floor. She wasn't sure if that was how she felt, but she just didn't want Courtney to leave without her doing stuffs to her one last time.

Hearing no response, Maggie raised her gaze to meet Courtney's once again to confirm the latter's reaction. However, Maggie's heart dropped when she saw the cold look Courtney gave her.

" Just do your tasks and avoid making a mess at all cost. We've discussed everything so I have no doubt about you executing it. Now for real, don't fuck up. Don't you even dare fuck it up..."

" I'll be back soon. So don't call me unless its very important." Courtney added and gestured that Maggie shut the car door.

Maggie in a bittersweet state shut the car door close and stepped back to watch as the Rolls drove off.

She stood deep in thought for a while before also grabbing her car key from her purse and walk towards the dark modern SUV parked in the corner.

...

Val sighed and slumped behind the door to her room when she got home. She threw her bag on the bed and slowly undressed.

She was mentally stressed from all the work and Mark's relentless pestering. Val didn't know what else to do.

After what he did today, she didn't want to see him again, Never. But she knew it was inevitable, he is her assistant after all.

' But it's not like it wouldn't all be over soon, divorce trials are only conducted once afterall...

' So shortly after September 1st, which is slightly less than two weeks away, everything should work fine.' She wouldn't see Mark's disgusting face anymore and that of his lover. She just had to put up for just a little more while.

Regarding the trial, Val was worried for Bob though. Would the trial go just as he planned or would it go otherwise?

Val had a feeling Courtney wasn't good news, she could tell the woman had schemes. But then it isn't like Val could do anything about it. She hadn't even spoken to Bob for a while as he'd said to avoid calling him as much as possible.

' I am actually still here for the reason of either raising this child with him or starting a new life...' Val placed a palm on her belly after she fell into bed. She stared at the ceiling in thought for a long while.

' Speaking about a new life, I think I should make a plan.' Val sat up in bed abruptly.

grrrr!

She smiled bitterly when she heard her stomach growl all of a sudden.

" That's right, I gotta find something to eat."
