Chapter Fourty
Author's Pov
Rose, known for her quiet personality and hatred for the spotlight, decided it was time to make a big announcement to the media. She had always been supportive of her friends Selena and Ryan's relationship and believed it was time to share their exciting news with the world. She thought to herself, sarcasm dripping from within her.
Rose meticulously planned the details of the announcement. She reached out to various media outlets, ensuring that the news would reach a wide audience. With cameras and reporters at the ready, Rose prepared herself for the big moment.
Selena, completely caught off guard by Rose's announcement, felt a mixture of confusion and shock. She and Ryan had not discussed this yet, so what exactly was she planning to do? Their plans hadn't even crossed the line into a romantic relationship. Selena tried to understand Rose's intentions, wondering why she would create such a false narrative.

The first whispers of doubt began to surface during a quiet evening at home. Selena and Ryan looked at each other, sensing something was amiss. Salena had called Ryan after receiving the news about their engagement this morning. They both sat down and shared their concerns, realizing that there was a lot of uncertainty about their future.
They couldn't quite understand the game Rose was playing or what exactly she was thinking.
Recognizing the importance of the situation, they both agreed to take some time apart. They knew it would be difficult as they were being watched by the media at the moment, but they needed space to reflect on their plans and evaluate what they truly wanted moving forward. They needed to be careful not to fall victim to their own games.
Selena felt like they were being thrown into a maze to play around in circles, and right now each of their steps and movements meant a lot.
They were now in the public eye as the newest couple in town, and it could either end up in a good or bad way.
In an effort to understand their doubts, Selena and Ryan decided to have an open and honest conversation. Selena talked about their fears and how it was eating them both up, how their desires to both win were drifting them apart, letting their enemies play mind games with them.
They were growing in ways they weren't supposed to; first it was bringing up the mistakes of their past; now it's an engagement. Selena felt like something wasn't right, and it became clear that staying together now wouldn't be the right move for them.
"Don't say anything; don't reply to the media yet; just keep calm, Ryan." Selena warned, looking into his eyes to show the seriousness of their present situation.
"Someone is playing games with us, Ryan, and until we find out who, we both need to remain quiet and calm," she concluded.
Ryan could only look at her, nodding his head, trying to shake off the intense fear slowly creeping into his system.
After a few days, Selena was unable to ignore the confusion and misunderstanding, so she decided to confront Rose privately. She expressed her disappointment and frustration, asking why Rose would fabricate such a story. Rose initially defended her actions, explaining she thought it would be a fun surprise and a way to keep the media off their backs for a while, as they were all still insisting that Selena snatched Ryan from Rose.
The fear sketched on Selena's face made Rose realize the gravity of her actions, and she realized she was on the right track with her revenge. She quickly decided to contact the media outlets and expand the news coverage. Rose took full responsibility for her actions and decided that if they needed any help, they could call her.
Selena was confused by Rose's actions, but the sincerity on her face and her actions towards rectifying the situation made them question if it might really be what they were thinking. They tried believing that Rose's intentions had been pure, but they knew they still needed to keep their guards up towards her.
Feeling overwhelmed, Selena and Ryan sought guidance from trusted friends and family members who had experienced similar doubts in their own relationships. They listened to different perspectives and gained insight into the complexity of the situation.
The media was divided against them, with some calling them backstabbers and betrayers while others gushed about their love and sent them prayers.
Rose sat in her penthouse, looking at the street opposite hers with a smile on her face. She saw Ryan coming out of his mansion with a hoodie over his head. She felt so accomplished.
They were both now facing a tiny grain of the problem they had made her face.
She had spent her nights these days pondering herself, wondering if she was going too far and if all she was doing was really necessary.
If it had been the old rose, she would have surely forgiven them and pitied them. Making up different excuses in her head as to why they both had treated her like that.
But not this time around. The old rose has brought her nothing but pain, disgrace, and heartbreak. The old rose had almost led her to death; she had led her to get married out of spite.
She paused at her last, though, and a smile springed on her lips. Ever since that night, the only good thing that has happened to her has been truly meeting Alfonso.
He had shown and shared with her a wonderful world she had long forgotten had ended.
She was always going to be grateful to him and his mother for all the love they had shown her.
She wouldn't lie; she hadn't expected Alfonso to treat her well in this marriage, as they both got married for the most dishonest reasons.
But here she is, with her heart beating at every thought of him. Now she could only pray for one thing, and that is the strength to be able to move on when this is all over.
