After two days

Mikaeel was in the office and signing some of the files. His brows were curled and he was looking extremely annoyed. He was signing like anytime he will rip apart the papers. His PA was standing in front of him having a nervous expression on his face. He was wondering why his boss is looking so much angry.

" I have signed the files. Arrange another board meeting with the Shamsi's," Mikaeel ordered the PA and threw away the pen somewhere in the room.

Gulping down his saliva, the PA said having an awkward smile," Sir, Happy Birthday to you."

The PA was expecting a thank you from Mikaeel but his stomach started twisting due to fear looking at Mikaeel's annoyed eyes. The smile from his face vanished in the air seeing Mikaeel staring at him in an intimidating manner.

" Get.........out," Mikaeel ordered leaning on his chair and the next second his PA was out of the office.

Two days passed since Aurin left for her father's house. After that, both of them didn't contact each other. The day Aurin left, Mikaeel only called Aurin's younger sister to know if she reached there safely or not.

Since today is his 1st birthday after marriage he was expecting Aurin to contact him considering his birthday. But, to his utter disappointment, she did nothing. He was already pissed off by her behaviour but he was hurt genuinely thinking about how can she forget about his birthday!

" Expectations hurt. I wasn't hoping for a big surprise or something like that from her. But, at least she could have wished me on my birthday!" Mikaeel whispered playing games on his phone.

Mikaeel was still playing games when he got a call from Maryam. His mood was already ruined and he wasn't in the state to talk, so he cut the call. Maryam again called and this time Mikaeel couldn't ignore it anymore.

" Mikaeel......please.....help me.......," Maryam said crying before Mikaeel could say hello.

Having a shocked yet worried expression Mikaeel stood up and asked loudly," Maryam, what happened? Are you ok?"

" There.....are....some goons....in my home.... They want to harm me. Please help me," She replied hiccupping and cut the call instantly.

Without wasting a moment further Mikaeel started his journey to Maryam's apartment. He tried to call her but her phone was switched off. It tensed him to another level. He just hopes she is fine and alerted the police as well.

Reaching there, he found the apartment door open and noticed that there was no light in the apartment. He entered there cautiously and become dumbfounded feeling rose petals all over him.

" Happy Birthday, Mikaeel," Maryam let out with excitement switching on the light.

Mikaeel was speechless and amazed after seeing his surrounding. The whole place was decorated with beautiful balloons and different colours of light. There was a cake on the table which is in the middle of the room. After staring at everything for something Mikaeel looked at Maryam with astonishment.

" You remember!!" Mikaeel said in disbelief and his heart filled with joy seeing that at least someone really cares for him.

Maryam replied coming toward him," Of course. I remember. I remember everything about you. From your likes to dislikes I remember every single thing about you."

Mikaeel was overwhelmed by her reply when she said pulling his hands with excitement," Come on, Mikaeel. Let's cut the cake. I baked it myself."

After that Mikaeel cut the cake and fed it to Maryam. She also fed him having a genuine smile on her face. She was delighted that he liked the cake she baked for him with so much love.

" There was no need for all this, Maryam. But, thank you for surprising me like that," Mikaeel showed his gratitude and the next moment Maryam handed him a small gift box making him confused by her actions.

She said gesturing him to open it," Your birthday gift."

" Rings!!" Mikaeel mumbled opening the box and looking at Maryam confusingly.

Getting close to him she said chuckling," Our engagement rings. Let's stop these formalities and accept that we yarn for each other."

An angry expression appeared on Mikaeel's face when Maryam continued saying, "Come on, Mikaeel. I know that you still love me. You aren't admitting it because of the responsibilities you have toward your wife. Let me tell you a solution, Miki. Divorce your wife. Aurin is beautiful and young. She will get any other man she wants."

" Shut up!!!" Mikaeel's voice echoed through the whole room like a thunderstorm.

Grabbing a glass from the table he threw it on the floor and Maryam flinched backwards at the sound. She became nervous looking at Mikaeel's eyes that were burning with anger.

" Are you out of your mind? You have that audacity to talk about my wife like that!!" Mikaeel questioned holding Maryam's shoulder tightly.

She shouted back," Stop acting that you care for your wife. You are just used to her. Nothing else. You love me only. That's why you have been with me till now and helping me in all difficulties."

Hearing her words Mikaeel left her shoulder and asked in disbelief," You thought I still love you and that's why I have been helping you!! Maryam, have you lost your mind already?"

" No, I haven't. I am just telling the truth. Just accept that you love me, not Aurin. Divorce her and we will have a happy life with each other," Maryam requested clutching his collar tightly and Mikaeel started regretting whatever he has done for Maryam till now.

Moving away from her he retorted back," Why should I divorce my wife? What's her fault? Why should I hurt an innocent person's feelings?"

" Then, what about my feelings, Mikaeel? Why always does everyone refuses to feel my emotions?" Maryam asked bursting into tears.

Letting out a frustrated growl Mikaeel shouted," You got an abusive husband and went through a lot of difficulties. And, I am sorry for whatever happened to you. I helped you because I felt that you need someone's support. I supported you as a friend not because I love you. Whatever happened to you is wrong? But, in all this what's my wife's fault? Why should I divorce her when I truly love her?"

Maryam continued crying when Mikaeel said rudely," Instead of trying to get me back. You should move on. I will never divorce my wife. I love her and she loves me too. Though we fight like Tom & Jerry, that doesn't mean I will divorce her and have another woman."

" Mikaeel, you can't do that to me. After showing me hopes you can't leave me like that, please," Maryam requested crying and hugging him tightly.

Pushing her away, he yelled in her face," You misunderstood me. That's not my fault, Maryam. I admit that I am not the best husband for my wife but I am not the worst to divorce my wife without any fault of her."

" Then, marry me. I am even ready to be your 2nd wife!! But, don't leave me. If you leave me then I will be alone completely!!" Maryam pleaded desperately and Mikaeel was stunned looking at her desperation.

Taking a deep breath Mikaeel grabbed her shoulder tightly and said," Aurin may not be my first in everything but she will be the last for sure. I can never cheat on her. Accept the truth and move on. It will be better for all of us."

Saying all these Mikaeel forwarded his legs to leave her apartment and Maryam fell to her knees having a blank expression. She continued looking at his backside and tried to utter something. But, she was so numb that she couldn't even form a word.

Before leaving her apartment Mikaeel turned for the last time and let out nodding his head," You have lost all the respect I used to have for you. You shouldn't have talked about my wife like that!! From this onwards, our friendship is over and I don't even want to see your face."

Saying all these he left and Maryam burst into crying. Standing up on her feet she started smashing everything in the room and screaming like a madwoman. Throwing the cake on the ground she smudged it with her feet and let out some angry painful screaming. Throwing the rings in the toilet, she flushed them.

She was destroying everything in her bedroom when her eyes caught her reflection in the mirror. She noticed that her hair was looking messy, her eyes were red and the kohl she applied to her eyes are smudged all over her cheeks. She was looking horrible!!

Grabbing a flower vase she threw it into the mirror and with a loud sound, it shattered into hundreds of pieces. She was behaving like she has lost her sanity. She couldn't accept his rejection for the second time.

Suddenly, she felt like she will have a panic attack and before she could do anything she collapse on the floor. Crawling toward the drawer she took out the medicines with great difficulty. Gulping down the medicines she laid down and slowly closed her eyes.

" If I don't deserve peace then no one deserves it too," Maryam whispered before dozing off.

On the other hand, Aurin reached in front of a mosque with a cake in her hands. She called the poor & orphan kids to her and they came running having beautiful smiles on their faces.

" Aurin api, what did you bring for us?" They asked her in unison.

She replied smiling sadly," Today is one of my loved ones' birthday. Since he isn't with me so I wanted to cut the cake with you."

" Yay!!!" The kids screamed with excitement and she cut the cake with them.

Distributing the cake among the kids Aurin went near a small pond. Sitting beside it she looked at the phone screen hoping for a text or call from Mikaeel but there was nothing.

She even thought to wish him at least but her anger didn't let her. She isn't going to return and talk to him until he acknowledges his mistakes and apologises to her.
