Chapter 20: Chapter 20
Richard dreaded to go back home after work. Don’t get him wrong, he would love for things between him and Tracy to be back to normal. But, he just didn’t feel like going home today, but he has never slept out, so he has no choice but to go home.
Emma was in the kitchen with Anna when Richard got back.
He went straight to his bedroom to go shower, while Emma and Anna got the table ready for dinner.
Emma decided she’d take a shower after having dinner. She offered to help Anna clean up the kitchen, but Anna refused.
“No madam, you don’t need to worry about that. I’ll clean up the kitchen myself.” Anna said, refusing Emma’s help, even after she insisted.
She had no idea that Emma was scared of having dinner with Richard, because of last night.
She decided to let Anna have her way and instead go sit down for dinner, while Anna went upstairs to call Richard down for dinner.
Richard showed up for dinner after five minutes. He was stunned to see his wife wearing something totally different from what she was known to wear. To add to that, his favorite meal was being served for dinner.
He quietly sat down, anxious as to the outcome of tonight’s dinner.
Anna served them their meal before excusing herself from their presence, then the awkwardness began.
Emma didn’t want things to keep on going this way, even though she didn’t want to make the wrong move or statement that would blow things up in her face. But, she didn’t want to go on living like this with Richard, because the silence was killing her.
“How was work today?” Emma mustered the courage to ask.
Richard turned stiff at the question. If it weren’t just the two of them present at the table, he would’ve thought she was talking to someone else.
“It was fine.” He replied.
Emma needed to hear at least more words from him, than just that plain reply.
Was the marriage that bad?
“Richard?” she called in a small voice, hoping he heard because she was to scared to speak up. He heard her, thanks to her lucky stars.
“Um, if I have wronged you or said anything to hurt your feelings, maybe in the past or recently, please forgive me. I want us to start all over again and this time I promise to make things right.”
Emma didn’t believe what she just said neither did Richard, as he was speechless and shocked at the same time.
He had waited so long for this to happen, but he didn’t know how to react or what to say because Tracy’s apology came out of the blue.
He abruptly stood up from the table and started on his way upstairs, leaving Emma disappointed.
She regretted saying anything in the first place, until she heard Richard’s voice.
“I’m also sorry for everything.”
Emma was happy, so happy she had no idea why. She then had a feeling that this experience wouldn’t be as bad as she had imagined it.
Emma woke up early the next morning to help Anna out with breakfast.
Richard came down as soon as breakfast was ready. They both ate their breakfast in silence, not the awkward kind they had two nights ago.
When Richard was done with his breakfast, he stood up to leave for work.
“Richard, wait.” Emma called out.
She got up from her seat, walked up to him and stood right before him.
Richard wondered what Tracy was up to.
Emma stood on her toes and gave Richard a peck on the lips before saying goodbye.
Richard was internally excited about it, but was also scared that this wouldn’t last long.
He left after saying goodbye with a slightly shocked expression. He walked to his car and saw Victor, his chauffeur already waiting for him.
Victor opened the door to the car and greeted
“Good morning Sir.”
“Good morning.” Richard replied and got into the car.
On their way to the firm, Richard couldn’t stop thinking about what Tracy did this morning. He touched his lips and could still feel a tingling sensation there.
He only hopes she doesn’t go back to arguing with him.
Emma was proud of herself for what she did this morning. She felt butterflies in her stomach just thinking about it.
‘Snap out of it, Emma. You know he isn’t yours, so don’t go start having feelings for him' she cautioned herself.
