Chapter 29: Chapter 29
It was a Saturday morning and the sun was shining brightly. I got out of bed and went to the bathroom. Wade wasn't there when I woke up and I assumed he was already doing some workouts. I took a shower and fixed myself before ingot out of our room. I was about to go to the kitchen when I saw him on the garden area. I ran towards him but stopped when I saw that he wasn't alone. I walked normally when they saw me.
"Hey, Cami," Riley said when I joined them. I went to Wade and he snaked his arm around me. I noticed how Riley looked at us and smirked. He must be making fun of Wade again.
"Hey Ri, You're here early," I said. "Is something wrong?"
"No, not at all," He said while he shook his head. "Everything is perfect, right bro?"
"He's about to leave, actually. He just came to hand over some papers." Wade said without taking his eyes off Riley. What is going on? Am I feeling a tension between them? They were just staring at each other as if they were having inner battles. Riley cleared his throat and turned to me.
"It was nice seeing you today, I wish we could have more time but Wade here is very possessive of you." He said and laughed.
"That's nonsense," I said. "He's just like that all the time. You can stay if you want. Maybe you can stay for lunch?"
"I would love to," He said smiling widely that it almost looked creepy. He turned to Wade and shook his head. "But I have somewhere else I need to be. I'm seeing my Mom today."
"Of course, you should put your family first. Maybe next time then?" I said.
He nodded and walked past us but not before tapping Wade's shoulders.
"What was it?" I said confused.
"What?" He said and acted as if nothing happened. He pulled me closer to him and walked inside the house.
"What just happened? Why were you doing a staring contest back there?" I said. "Were you fighting before I came?"
"What? No." He said. "We're just like that sometimes. Aren't you used to seeing us teasing each other?"
"I am but I thought something was up. You two were acting odd." I said.
"No, we weren't fighting, why would we be?" He said.
"Yeah, right," I said.
"You're just overthinking. Maybe you're still half asleep?" He said jokingly. "Are you even awake right now?" He pinched my nose as he said that.
"I am. I even showered already but you're right; I am overthinking things." I said.
"Yeah," He said softly. "Are you hungry".
"I am. Did you eat already?" I said.
"No, I was waiting for you but I had coffee with Ri." He said. "Let's eat."
I nodded and we went to the dining. Foods were already prepared at the table for us.
"Riley should've eaten with us. Look, we have plenty of food here." I said.
"He has to go somewhere and besides we had coffee." He ssaid.
"He said he's visiting his mother. Where is she anyway? I haven't met her. Do you know his mom?"
I said.
"Yeah, she's not in the city. She's living far that's probably why he had to leave early." He said.
"Is she kind and nice just like Riley?" I asked curiously. "I bet she's a loving mother judging by the way Riley turned out to be. I mean, you wouldn't be best friends with Riley if he had a mother that is unlikable."
"Yeah," He said. I noticed how his Adam's apple moved up and down. Why do I feel like he doesn't want to extend this conversation?
"Are you close with her?" I said.
"We're okay," He said. I do have this feeling that he doesn't want to talk about this. Is there something that I don't know and he's not telling me?
"We should visit her as well." I said trying to press the topic more.
I heard him sighed and looked at me.
"We will soon," He said. "Come on, eat."
I nodded and started eating. Maybe I was just overthinking again. Why do I feel like I always do that these days? I turned to him and he was eating silently. Did I say something wrong? I ignored that thought and moved on to another topic I wanted to talk with him. I have been thinking about this for a while and I have decided that this was the right time for it.
"I called Erin," I said. He looked at me after hearing what I said. "Can I go out with her? I mean, I wanted her to come with me when I talk to my handler. That's her handler as well."
"I didn't know she does modelling," He said. "When are you going?"
"Yes, she does sometimes," I said. "We're planning on going tomorrow since that's their free schedule."
"Alright then, I'll come with you." He said.
"What?" I said.
"Why? Can't I come with you?" He said. "I want to see who you'll be working with and we have to know that you're safe out there."
"Of course you can, I just thought you might be busy." I said.
"It's Sunday tomorrow so I'm free but if you wanted to go alone then I won't come. I can just stay here." He said. I weighed his words. I know he wanted to come and he was just trying to make me feel like I have a choice. I know him better now. I know that he can be possessive at times just as Riley said. I don't mind though. He can be as possessive as he wants to be and I sill won't mind. I can be possessive too so I think it's just fair.
"You can come, that won't be a problem for me." I said and smiled at him. I saw his eyes brightened when he heard it. I know you wanted that.
"Alright then," He said as he sipped on his orange juice. It was true that he liked orange juices, I can tell. How many boys love oranges? I bet not so many. I smiled at my thought. He really is different.
