Chapter 86: Chapter 86
"You'll figure it out later, Mia," Alex said, gently holding her hands as they walked back to the study.
**Hours later**
"I can't find anything in these documents, and the photos captured were too blurry for me to see if there's any kind of different clay," Mia said, her exhaustion evident.
"It's time to rest, Mia. We're in the middle of the night, and a day's search cannot possibly give us all the information we need," Alex remarked, closing the documents.
"But I don't feel at ease, Alex. I sense there's more to this incident than meets the eye," she added, expressing her unease.
"I understand, Mia. I'll keep a vigilant eye on him and ensure every move is reported to me," he reassured, consoling the tired Mia as she slumped into a chair.
"I'll carry you to the bedroom," he offered, preparing to lift her.
"I'll eat first, Alex. I'm very tired and exhausted, so I'll have a meal and a bath before sleep," she decided.
"I'll instruct a maid to bring food to your bedroom, and you can eat there before taking your bath," he suggested, lifting her in a princess carry.
Mia settled in the bedroom, waiting for the meal.
"Good day, my Lady," a maid greeted, entering with a tray of food.
The food was placed on a small table in front of Mia.
"You can leave now; I'll call you when I'm done eating," she instructed the maid, who bowed and exited the room.
After eating, Mia called another maid to clear the table and then went to sleep.
Alex returned to the bedroom after assigning a trusted guard to watch over Hendrix. After a bath, he laid on the bed, running his hands affectionately over Mia's face before succumbing to sleep.
**Next day**
Mia woke up before Alex, observing his sleeping face. Her hand traced his features.
"Do you want to eat me up by looking at me like that?" Alex teased from his sleep.
Her hands retracted in embarrassment as Alex caught her.
"You're free to stare, wife. After all, you're the only one who gets to see me like this," he playfully remarked, fluttering his eyelashes.
Blushing, Mia greeted, "Good morning," before attempting to get off the bed. However, her legs wobbled, and she fell back onto the bed.
"What's wrong, Mia? Are you fine?" Alex asked, rushing to her.
"My waist hurts, Alex, and there's a red mark around it from the way you held me yesterday," she complained, rubbing her waist.
"When did I hold you so hard on your waist yesterday, Mia? This is not me," he argued back.
Confused, Mia looked at Alex and chose not to argue further. Carefully standing up, she walked towards the cupboard to get a lotion.
The red marks around her waist brought a feeling of déjà vu to Alex.
"I'll apply the lotion for you, Mia," he offered, walking towards her.
"It's fine, I'll do it myself," she hesitated to hand him the lotion.
"I'm sorry, Mia, but I can't remember what happened yesterday. I don't even recall my day clearly, but it feels like déjà vu," he admitted, walking closer to Mia. He held her hands and used his powers to heal her.
"You shouldn't need the lotion now," he said, carrying her back to bed.
Mia nodded in agreement and sat on the bed, leaning against the headboard.
"Good morning, my Lord," a guard greeted from outside.
"I'll be back," Alex said, walking to the door.
"Good morning, my Lord," the guard greeted, bowing.
"What's the matter?" he asked the guard.
"You have a meeting with the elders of the pack as it's almost the red moon night, and they are all to be here shortly, my Lord," the guard answered.
"Thank you for reminding me," he said and waved his hands to dismiss the guard.
As the guard left, Mia asked Alex, "What's the matter?"
"It's nothing to worry about. I've got a meeting with the pack elders, and they'll be here shortly," he reassured her.
"Okay," she said, standing up from the bed. "Let's go down to eat while you wait for them to gather," Mia suggested, walking towards the door.
They both walked to the dining table to eat while awaiting the arrival of the elders.
The clinking sounds of footsteps made Mia and Alex look at the door.
An elderly man with a walking stick was entering the house.
Alex stood up from the table to meet him.
"Good morning, Alpha Alex," Elder Jacob greeted.
"Good morning," he replied, leading him to the table.
Mia nodded and greeted him silently.
"Mind joining us for a meal?" Alex offered, taking a seat beside Mia.
"It's an urgent matter we've come to discuss, Alpha Alex. Let's put all food aside and wait until this calamity of ours is finally dealt with, then we can sit as happy members of a pack to dine and wine," Elder Jacob refused Alex's offer.
"I'll take my leave now and give you space to talk," Mia said, standing up from the table."My Lady, I think you should also be in this meeting with us. It's your pack and your duty as our Luna to protect the welfare," the old man said, sitting Mia back.
