Chapter 27: Chapter 27

Shock, was a very easy way to explain how Mia felt when Alex shifted into something monstrous and vanished into the river in the twinkle of an eye.

Mia didn't know when and how she jumped in after him, but she did and she couldn't believe what she was seeing. She was struggling to hold her breath as a very big wolf with red eyes stared back at her, clearly furious.

Alex. What just happened?

He didn't seem like he was in control and the last time she checked, every man could control and subdue his wolf. Why was Alex's case different and why was his wolf that huge?

'Alex?' She tried communicating through the mate bond but it was seemingly impossible as she felt a big barrier blocking her out.

Mia sank into the water with frenzied thoughts as to why he was breathing under water like he was on land. He held her breath, knitting her brows into a frown.

Before she could decide on what to do, the wolf moved swiftly towards her, ready to devour her flesh.

How did a wolf move so swiftly under water?

Mia squeezed her eyes and braced herself for whatever was going to happen next.

Alex stared from behind his mind at all that was unfolding before his eyes. It were times like this that he understood perfectly how Max felt to be pushed to the back of gia mind and seeing everything from a somewhat unbreakable glass.

Alex tried to fight for as he felt his body move to attack Mia. Why on earth had she jumped in after him? Alex felt his pulse drumming frantically, his heart protesting its imprisonment in his chest, his ears ringing and his heart shattering as it dawned on him that he couldn't take control.

He screamed and begged the demon in his mind as quickly as he could but it was irrelevant.

Just when he felt it was the end, Mia raised her fragile hand as a form of protection over her face.

She moved so fast under water that Alex was surprised. He didn't get enough time to digest what was happening when a bright light, sparkling like diamonds hit him square in the face.

Mia opened her eyes and they were glowing a bright blue. Alex watched in both awe and terror as she moved towards him. The demon was going through the same shock as it paused and stared weakly at Mia whose hair was now pure white and her forehead bore a glowing symbol of a half moon.

Alex was still in a trance as she placed her hand on his forehead. She stared deeply into his eyes before kissing his big wolf head.

Alex felt power surge through him with a great force as light entered him from her palm.

Alex felt himself suddenly regain control and he shifted back into a man.

Mia!

She had returned to her normal self and her body became limp. She shut her eyes and sank into the water.

Alex swarm towards her as quickly as he could in raw fear.

Once he had her in his arms, he swarm back up and placed her gently on land. He started to administer CPR but nothing was working and Alex's chest heaved.

His lips trembled and cold fear settled in the depths of his stomach.

He didn't know what to do. There was no one here. He tried mind-linking Hendrix, but for some weird reasons, he couldn't.

"Mia. Please, please," was all he could say as tears welled up in his eyes and began to run down his delicate cheeks in torrents.

He wasn't giving up on her so he continued and just like a miracle, she coughed, spewing water out of her mouth. Alex enlargened his eyes and pulled her onto his thighs to rub her back so she coughed out all the water from her lungs.

Alex thanked the moon goddess as he hugged her tightly still crying and trying to recover from the raw fear that had engulfed his being.

"You're safe now. You're safe," he assured hee, not daring to remove her from his embrace.

This was all his fault.

"What happened?" Mia croaked out of her sore throat.

"Nothing, baby. You're safe now,"

He reassured her.

Mia was no longer listening as she had reached cloud nine from the nickname. Baby. It sent shivers down her spine and she almost forgot about the aches and pains in her throat and muscles.

Her joints were weak and she couldn't understand why or what had happened to her.

He took her in his arms and ran back the the castle for treatment.

•••••••••••

Alex stayed by Mia for the rest of that day and the next. He was too scared to leave her side.

He still didn't understand what had happened and she kept asking him to tell her while she assured him that she was now fine.

"It doesn't matter. What matters is that you're safe now," was his constant reply.

Mia has been sleeping more than she ever had in her life and she believed it either had something to do with what happened in the river or the drugs that Jericho was giving her.

She still remembered how Alex had transformed into something she didn't know existed and how he had attacked her under water, but she couldn't remember anything after that. It felt like her memory had been wiped just like her childhood.

She remembered the argument too but she didn't understand any of it.

"Alex?" Mia whispered.

It was dark and Alex was sitting in her couch; his head bowed as he read a book.

"Jericho said to not talk,"

He replied with the same answer as he had for the past two days.

"What were you talking about when you said I remembered?"  Mia ignored his instruction to keep shut and asked the very question that had bugged her since it happened.

"It doesn't matter, Mia."

Alex closed his book and looked at her.

"Don't feed me that shit." She wanted to yell at him but her throat was heavy and hurtful.

"I'll explain everything when you recover," he promised.

"But I have." Mia lied. She still felt weak in her bones and her head ached like a heartbeat.

"We both know you're not," he said softly.

"Do you promise you'd tell me?"

Mia asked, stretching her pinky to him. He took her pinky in his and promised.

She really liked this Alex. He was nothing like the man she had known this past week. She went to bed that night with a smile on her face and Alex, a worried frown.

How was he to explain everything to her?
