Chapter 108: Chapter 108
Heartman's heart swelled with relief as he stood before the wall, adorned with a mischievous grin that stretched from ear to ear.
Finally, all their efforts had paid off. With a subtle push, he activated the mechanism.
The passage was dark and foreboding, its cold stone walls seeming to whisper forgotten tales of despair. Heartman hesitated for a moment, considering the weight of his actions.
The passage wasn't really empty, as there was a burglary preventing them entrance.
Heartman went to the side of the passage and found the box of the puzzle that would give them free passage. He observed it for some time and tried to understand the input before making any move because he didn't know how many attempts were left or how many times he could input the password for the burglary to roll aside. The last time he saw this was when he traveled around with his wife Nathalie; he hadn't really seen this particular type but had an unwavering hope of a possible outcome.
He made the first input, and a resounding alarm could be heard all through the lobby, and the warriors outside the building heard it too and sent a message to find out what happened.
"Is there a problem, Alpha? In what way can we be of help, sir?" The pack warriors' leader asked.
Heartman made another attempt, and this time it was perfect, and the burglary rolled over to one side of the passage.
Heartman's pulse quickened with anticipation as he descended into the dark, dank corridors. The air grew heavy with the scent of mildew and despair. The sound of his footsteps echoed ominously, creating an eerie symphony of suspense. His grip tightened around his trusted sword, ready for any encounter that lay ahead.
He turned and looked at the pack warriors' leader. "Pick four men to go down with me, and you can stay here with the rest to watch over here and the captives while we're gone into the dungeon," he commanded.
"Yes, sir," the pack warriors' leader said.
He picked four men, including the warriors that found the button to the passage.
As they descended into the dimly lit dungeon, the air grew heavy with the stench of despair and decay.
Heartman pressed on, his mind focused on the task at hand.
The passage seemed never-ending, winding its way through a labyrinth of stone walls. Finally, Heartman reached a heavy iron door, standing as a barrier between him and the main cell in the dungeon. Four warriors that came with him pushed and forced the door open, revealing a chilling sight.
Finally, they reached a chamber where their former Luna lay on the cold ground, her once radiant form now marred by wounds and bruises. Heartman's heart sank at the sight, but he quickly shook off the sorrow, rallying his companions to attend to her.
Kneeling beside her, Heartman cradled her delicate frame, his hands trembling with a mix of tenderness and anger. The Luna's eyes fluttered open, recognition dawning in their depths. A weak smile played on her lips as she beheld the warriors who had come to her aid.
"Heartman," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I knew you would come."
Gently, Heartman brushed a strand of hair from her face from the burglary, his voice filled with determination. "We will take you out of this darkness, Nathalie. You are not alone anymore."
The other warriors circled around them, creating a protective barrier, for their Alpha. They made cautious movements toward the cell.
Some other warriors searched for the key to the cell while others tried breaking it. Breaking wasn't an option because the iron was thick, and it didn't seem like anything they were doing had any effect on it.
