Chapter 82: Chapter 82
The following day, she went to work. She had a letter in her hand that she wanted to submit to her boss.
"Good morning sir."
"Miss Graves. So good to see you!" He replied. "Please sit." Jessica sat down.
"It's so good to see you." He said again. "You know, I've been looking for an opportunity to commend you for the work you do, your efficiency and all. You do a very good job here."
"Thank you, sir," Jessica said humbly. "Sir, about that actually came in to hand me my resignation letter."
The man paused in his actions. "Are you joking?"
"I'm afraid not sir."
"Why are you resigning? Is there anything that's not to your taste here? Is your salary too poor? Talk to me, what is the matter?"
"It's nothing that has to do with the company. It's just that my kids and I are relocating to California. So it would be very difficult for me to keep up with work. Distance and all." Jessica explained.
"Oh." He said. "That is not an issue, Ms. Graves."
"It's not?" Jessica asked in surprise.
"Not at all." He answered. "You can work from California. It's fine. You would only need to attend the meeting once in a while when you are called?"
Jessica smiled. "Really? I mean, that's good. Thank you sir."
"It's alright. We enjoy your services, you are very effective. It would be a shame to let go of you for such a flimsy reason."
Jessica thanked him again and again. She got up, and shook his hand, thanking him again. After that, she left the office. She was very happy that she wasn't going to lose her job.
She kept a smile on her face even as she went home after work.
Once she got home, she called Gary again.
"Have you found one yet?" She asked as soon as he picked up the phone.
"Yeah, I did. But it's not a three bedroom. It's a five bedroom. I don't know if it's too much for you."
"Oh, no it's okay actually. Angela says she would be coming over as well. It would be good to still have her around."
"Okay then. It's settled. I will be at the airport to pick you guys up. So we can just go ahead to the apartment."
"Okay, thanks Gary."
She dropped the call. She dialed her father again.
"Dad."
"Hey princess." Mr. Graves greeted as well. "How are you and the kids?"
"Very well. How is mom too?"
"Oh, she is fine. She is helping to set up the workplace."
"Okay. Dad, I called to say we would arrive in California perhaps tonight or early tomorrow morning."
Her father smiled. "That's awesome dear. I can't wait to meet my grandchildren. Your mom said they're so pretty."
"C'mon dad. You have a pretty daughter, there's no way her kids wouldn't be pretty as well." Jessica said in a very narcissistic manner.
Her father laughed out loud. "Of course. My princess is very pretty."
"Yeah, dad. Angie says she's coming as well. She is going to work with us."
"What about your job?"
"Well, they say I can continue working from home. It doesn't matter where I go, I can keep working with them. I would only need to attend the meeting on a once in a while basis." She explained.
"Wow. That is good. I'm proud of you."
"Thanks, dad, I will leave you to finish your work. I still have to finish the rest of our things to pack up." Jessica said.
"Alright princess. Bye."
"Bye dad."
She dropped the call. Jessica sat back in her chair. Her kids were not at home but she knew Angela would be out with them. She was simply reminiscing the entire five years.
How everything had happened so quickly before her eyes. She remembered the days of torture in her pregnancy, then she remembered Edwin Turner. Her first ever love. Now he turned out to be someone she had to bring justice upon.
She laid back on the couch with her eyes closed, a half smile gracing her lips.
Her phone rang again. It was the twins calling.
"Oh, you guys finally remember me huh?" She was immediately accused.
"Big sis. We never forgot about you." Kristen answered. "You know how choking college can be. It's never easy."
"Speak for yourself, K. It's very easy," Tristan commented. Kristen whacked him lightly.
"You fool! I'm trying to placate her." Kristen scolded. "Don't mind him sis. I know it's been a long time. We're sorry."
"I'm not," Tristan added again. Kristen hit him harder this time around.
"Ow!" He cried.
Jessica laughed at them. "You two cannot stop bickering at each other, can you?"
"No." They answered together.
"Sis, when are you gonna be in California? Our school would soon be on break and we would be going home."
"Oh. I'll be there by tomorrow." Jessica answered. "I am not even done packing, I still want to give the kids a second chance to pack their clothes by themselves."
"Huh, why?"
"Because they scattered the one I packed up myself," Jessica answered. "I have absolutely no idea where they were going but you know twins have a mind of their own."
"Yeah." Tristan agreed. "Well, we hope to meet them soon."
Jessica cooed. "You will love them. They're so adorable, and troublesome. Petty too."
Kristen laughed. "I think I'm really gonna love them."
"Me too. I'm gonna teach Gabriel how to disturb his sister so well. And in a way, she cannot fight back too." Tristan announced.
"Don't you dare teach my kids rubbish? I cannot have them stressing me the way the two of you stressed mom." Jessica scowled.
"Duh." Tristan mocked in a girly voice. They all burst out laughing. "Yeah but, whatevs."
"Stop it T." Kristen scolded. "Bye sis. I just called to inform you of our early return. Don't tell mom and dad. We want it to be a surprise to them as well."
Jessica smiled. "Oh alright. Study hard guys. Who knows, you might need to -"
"Join the company, we know." They chorused. Jessica chuckled. "Bye sis."
