Chapter 21: Chapter 21
"Are you in a relationship with the boss?" James asked.
Jessica almost spilt the water in her mouth at James's face," Why would you even say that? Please, don't even mention that again. He is just my boss just like he is to you."
Jessica, who was still having goosebumps due to the question James asked her, did not notice the smirk on James's face.
" My bad! You know the rumor about our boss and I just want to be clear so I won't be sacked for sitting with the future boss," James said with a teasing tone.
James was surprised at the way Jessica answered him. She wasn't like those girls who swoon around the boss. But his only fear was that she might be the boss's target. Edwin Turner is a known womanizer and it might hurt his ego if such a gorgeous woman didn't give a damn about him. He hoped that wasn't the case.
" Oh please! If he is the only man on this planet earth, I will rather stay single!" Jessica said, cutting through James's thoughts. Her voice was displeased at being placed with that womanizer.
" It's alright. I was just being curious," James replied with a smile. He wondered if something happened between them. Why does she sound so resentful towards their boss?
Jessica quickly finished her lunch, then stood up to leave." Thanks for accompanying me. I have to go now."
"But lunch break isn't over yet. Are you that eager about your job?" James said, smiling.
"Of course, I am eager when it comes to my job but I want to see my friend before the end of the lunch break," Jessica explained. She needs to go and give Misha her lunch.
"Oh! You mean Misha, right? She is battling with her upgrade system. Alright, let's talk some other time," James replied.
Jessica nodded before leaving in a haste. She pondered James' last words. If it's an upgrade system, perhaps she can help out. Misha had done a lot for her.
When she got to Misha's office, she was indeed swarmed with the workload. There were still about fifteen minutes left for the lunch break to be over.
"You are here, Jessy. Did you bring me lunch? How sweet of you!" Misha exclaimed, feeling thankful. She had been thinking about how she was going to eat later on.
"It's nothing, Misha. You would have done the same for me. What are you working on?" Jessica asked, drawing closer.
" I am stuck on this programming for the company's finance file. Being on the technical team is giving me a headache!" Misha lamented.
" Let me see," Jessica said as she looked at the screen.
She smiled, then told Misha what to do. It took them less than five minutes to upgrade the system and Misha was very happy. Nevertheless, she marveled at Jessica's skills.
"Jessy, if I were to grade your skill, I would have said you are a hacker! Girl, you are damn good! You should apply for the technical section and not as a secretary," Misha advised as she praised her.
"I just got this job so I just can't swap yet. Besides, I don't want to delve into technical issues for the time being," Jessica replied.
"That's true. But after six months in the office, you can apply for a change of department," Misha said, taking out the lunch." I think I still have about ten minutes to devour this sumptuous meal."
"Enjoy yourself, Misha," Jessica said, smiling.
"Why didn't you bring food today? I swear I enjoy your mom's cooking so much. My mom is too busy to prepare food so I had to make do with anything," Misha said, staring into space.
"I was eager to get to work early so I didn't wait for her. But I will surely bring it tomorrow. I have to go, Misha. Let's go home together later," Jessica said.
" Of course. See you later, sweetheart," Misha replied, smiling.
Jessica walked to her office and continued with her work. She was buried in her work so much that she forgot she had been working even after closing hours! If not for Misha's call, she would have continued working.
She quickly tidied up her work before going to join Misha who was already waiting for her.

When Jessica got home, she freshened up and took a nap. She was awoken by her mother two hours later for an early dinner. She looked quite refreshed after the nap.
She remembered that she would be traveling for two days with her boss and she was yet to tell her parents. She decided to talk to them after dinner. Jessica sat together with her parents and the twins to eat. She was grateful that her family was together and very soon everything would be fine.
An hour later, Jessica sat down in the living room with her parents. The twins had gone back to their room.
"Mom, Dad, I have something to tell you," Jessica said. She wondered if her parents would let her go on a business trip with her boss that might last two days. Especially since the boss was an unmarried man.
"Okay, sweetheart," Her father said.
"I… I will be going on a business trip with my boss for two days," Jessica replied, not daring to look at her parents.
She prays they allow her because she can't afford to lose this job. It would be hard to get another one if she loses this one.
" Just the two of you? Or is it a staff trip?" Her mom asked for clarification.
" Just the two of us and probably his assistant," Jessica said, not sure if it was just the two of them.
" Sweetie, we know how much you have worked to finally get this job and we don't want to be the cause for you to lose it. But, we just have one question," her mom said.
" What is it, mom?" Jessica asked.
" Do you trust your boss? I mean, are you going to be okay during the trip?" Her mom said. That was their only concern.
Jessica was taken aback by her mom's question. Does she trust her boss? Would her womanizing boss not fool around with her?
