Chapter 120: Chapter 120
Everyone was in a frenzy! It was the day of the wedding and Jessica's dress wasn't delivered yet. They didn't know if it was going to fit.
Angela kept making calls and calls. She was in charge of the preparation. She was the one who chose the venue and the event planner.
Jessica's mother had been around her as well. Edwin's mother was also around but she was a little wary around Jessica. They had apologized and Jessica had forgiven them but they still didn't know how to get along fully with her.
Abby was even closer to Jessica during the period of the wedding. Seeing all the clothes that had been brought into the house, she totally assumed she and her mother were going to play a massive dress up game that involved Angela and her grand mums.
By the eve of the wedding, the dress finally came. Jessica tested it and it was perfect.
"This is the only reason I'm giving a three star rating to your company!" Angela deadpanned. The tailors were very apologetic. No one knew that Edwin had called them severally to threaten them about making a perfect dress. The pressure had become too much for them, they started delaying because they wanted to make a perfect dress.
On the wedding morning, Jessica was on edge. She was so nervous that even Abby could notice.
"Princess!" Mrs. Graves called. "Do be calm. It's not that difficult to get married."
"Yess. You shouldn't be the one to get unnerved, that's Edwin's role." Kristen said.
Tristen nodded in agreement. "He should be scared that you would stand him up. So don't be nervous at all."
Jessica smiled. Having them all around her at a time like this made her very happy.
She was grateful. Abby stood beside her, dressed in her little bride's dress. She loved that she was dressed similarly to her mother.
"Mama looks so pretty." She said, "Prettier than that aunty we saw on TV."
Jessica laughed. "Your father would never want to hear that from his princess."
Abby giggled, covering her mouth and looking around as if Edwin was around the corner.
Angela hired make-up artists to do Jessica's makeup. Although she refuted it, it resulted in an argument that they finally agreed on something that wouldn't be too noticeable. Of course, that was only for word's sake. Angela paid them to do an extravagant job for her.
When Jessica emerged at the door of the hall, her father was too happy to see her. She looked too beautiful, he remembered when he married her mother.
"You remind me of your mother." He whispered to her.
"Dad!" She scolded with a light laugh. "Don't let mom hear you."
Mr. Graves chuckled. "Ready?"
Jessica nodded. Her father grabbed her hand and led her inside the hall. Edwin couldn't take his eyes off her. She looked like an angel that came right out of heaven and he couldn't get over the fact that he was the one getting married to her and not someone else. He held a small smile on his face but his eyes were also teary.
Mr. Graves didn't go into all the threats which other fathers did. He had Tristan for that. Besides, he knew that Edwin could never hurt his daughter. He placed her hand in Edwin's hand and the man led his bride further down the aisle to the pulpit where the hired clergyman stood.
The ceremony was too sped up for Jessica's liking. She was thankful that Angela hired a media company to have the entire ceremony covered. So they could watch it anytime.
"Do you, Jessica Grave, take Edwin Turner to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"Yes, I do," Jessica said.
"Do you, Edwin Turner, take Jessica Grave to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
"Yes, I do," Edwin answered in a heartbeat.
"You may now pronounce your vows. Edwin, you go first."
Edwin took Jessica's hand in his, staring deep into her eyes, he began to speak.
"From the first encounter we had, although not pleasant, I knew that you were going to get someone I couldn't get over. I am very thankful that you didn't give up on me, and that because of you I'm a changed man. I also promise to remain faithful to you. No matter what comes our way, our love will conquer. And if there ever comes a time when you stop loving me, I'll bring out my love for us to use. Jessica, I swear to you today, that you, and only you, own me and everything I own."
"Jessica?" The priest turned to her.
"I solemnly swear to stay faithful and true to you, and to be submissive, to be a good wife and mother and companion. I promise to never stop loving you, caring for you, and tolerating you. And that only you will ever own me."
"By the power bestowed on me, I pronounce you man and wife. You may… kiss the bride."
Edwin wasted no time. He took her into his arms carefully and kissed her softly on the lips.
They turned to face the crowd before them.
"I present to you all, Mr. and Mrs. Turner!"
The crowd cheered for them. That was probably the only other thing Jessica could remember. The rest of the event passed through like a blur. She remembered that they had danced. Then towards the end of the reception, she was asked to throw her bouquet.
She turned and acted as if she was going to throw it, then instead, she ran to hand it over to Angela who was in shock.
Angela heard a scream behind her and turned. Roy was kneeling before her with a ring in hand. She let out a soft gasp. She turned to Jessica who winked at her.
She turned back to Roy. She nodded and took the ring from him.
Kristen hugged her. "That should have been me."
Angela laughed and hugged the girl back.
