Chapter 309: Chapter 309 - 301: The Leopard Learns by Imitation
"By the way, Young Master Lu Xiao, there are too many goods on the truck, half of them haven’t been unloaded yet. Should we unload them right away or wait to enter the city?" a Beastman asked.
Lu Xiao and Xiao Jin had both driven over, originally thinking the trucks would be enough to carry the goods. Unexpectedly, Hu Yun and the others had loaded so much cargo.
Lu Xiao replied, "Let’s drive straight into the city."
The coronation ceremony for the new Monarch is in a month. Normally, large trucks cannot enter the city without prior notice.
However, guarding the city were troops under the Lu Family’s command. Lu Xiao said a word to the City Guards at the gate and the trucks were allowed to pass.
The other goods were loaded onto the trucks that both had driven.
Returning to the doorstep of the home.
The Beastmen helped move the goods into the warehouse.
The warehouse couldn’t hold them all; the remaining goods had to be piled in the yard temporarily.
Once everything was finished, the sky was already lightening up.
Lu Xiao said to everyone, "You all came rushing overnight, which wasn’t easy. How about resting in the city for a few more days before heading back?"
Hu Yun said, "Thank you, Brother Lu Xiao, we won’t trouble you any longer! There’s still work unfinished over in Greenfield City. After transporting the goods, we have to hurry back. We’ll come over next time we have the chance."
He added with a smile, "We’ll definitely come and join in the fun for His Highness’s coronation ceremony next month. A few days ago, the City Lord and his wife heard the news and said they’d personally attend. Brother Lu Xiao, remember to save us a spot!"
Lu Xiao chuckled lightly, "Don’t worry, let us know in advance when you’re coming, and we’ll save you the best spot."
"Thank you very much!"
Though Hu Yun said no need, Lu Xiao still found them a place to stay for a good rest.
After getting busy on this side, the sky was faintly bright, close to four o’clock.
Breakfast time approached.
Lu Xiao and Xiao Jin couldn’t sleep either.
Lu Xiao thought that the Female Master should be waking up soon, so he went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
He brought a bag of flour to the kitchen, broke several eggs into a bowl.
In the Beast World, who knows which bird laid these eggs—they’re roughly fist-sized, bigger than the eggs of the present world, with a richer, fragrant taste. He added an appropriate amount of flour, chopped vegetables and fresh meat, and mixed them into a uniform batter.
Xiao Jin, arms crossed, leaned on the glass door. Watching his actions curiously, he asked, "What are you making?"
"Egg and vegetable meat pancakes, the Female Master really likes them."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Jin perked up, putting aside thoughts of sleeping, and decided to learn by watching.
Lu Xiao noticed his intent, handed him the bowl of batter, took a new iron bowl, scooped a spoonful of beans into it, "You can give it a try, I’m going to make porridge. When the Female Master wakes up, it’ll be just in time for breakfast."
"Making pancakes is easy, just watch me impress that little greedy girl!" Xiao Jin said confidently, surely making pancakes can’t be harder than fighting a battle?
First, he followed Lu Xiao’s instructions, poured a layer of oil into the pan, and scooped some batter on. Seeing the batter starting to dry out, he quickly tilted the pan with the handle, spreading the batter.
Lu Xiao, having finished washing the beans, was boiling porridge, suddenly smelled something burnt.
He turned his head and saw smoke rising from Xiao Jin’s side. He exclaimed sharply, "Flip it quickly, or it’ll burn!"
Xiao Jin snapped back to reality, hurriedly grabbed the spatula to flip it over.
Only to find the batter stuck to the pan.
He had to poke it hard, tearing the pancake apart, as the burnt smell grew stronger, the entire pancake underside roasted to charred black.
Lu Xiao hastily turned off the heat, wrested the spatula from him.
Three minutes later.
The pancake was beyond saving.
The pan was a field of charcoal black; without knowing, one might think someone threw coals inside.
Xiao Jin sneezed several times, quite humiliated.
Lu Xiao sighed, rubbing his forehead in speechless resignation, witnessing a kitchen disaster for the first time.
Luckily, he didn’t ruin the pan; with cleaning, it could still be used. Otherwise, they would need to buy a new one.
"You might as well make the porridge." Lu Xiao’s voice abruptly stopped, fearing Xiao Jin might ruin that too, "...Actually, just go back to sleep."
Xiao Jin rolled up his sleeves, defiant, "It’s just making pancakes, are there things on this earth I can’t do? I’m determined to make a proper pancake today!"
Unable to dissuade him, Lu Xiao sighed helplessly, as long as the kitchen didn’t explode.
Noise soon filled the kitchen again; it remained restless all morning.
By around six o’clock.
Xiao Jin ran upstairs, knocked heavily on the door, "Tangtang, are you up? The sun’s shining on your backside, hurry and come down for breakfast!"
Shen Li, holding her soft beauty, was sleeping soundly, but was woken by the clueless trouble-making leopard.
A vein twitched on his forehead, as he opened his narrow, lustrous fox eyes, casting a dangerous glance at the door, wishing he could strip the leopard’s skin to use as a bedsheet.
"I think I heard Xiao Jin’s voice?" Shen Tang drowsily woke up, curled up in Shen Li’s embrace, tightly bound by his tail, immobile and slightly breathless.
Shen Li quickly loosened her, bowed his head to kiss her forehead, his gentle voice still hoarse from the morning, "Ignore him, keep sleeping."
Having been awakened, Shen Tang couldn’t fall back asleep, touching her belly, last night had been exhausting, she was hungry, time to get breakfast downstairs.
Shen Li felt regret for the disturbed lovely morning, but didn’t say much. The two got up to wash and descended for breakfast.
The breakfast wasn’t complex, just simple egg pancakes and preserved egg and lean meat porridge.
Shen Tang took an egg pancake, tasted a bite.
Familiar flavor, very tasty.
But upon eating a second pancake, she noticed it was misshapen, some even overcooked, not looking like Lu Xiao’s handiwork.
She raised an eyebrow in surprise, scanned the table, eyes landing on the feigned engrossed eater, watching her sneakily, Xiao Jin, understanding immediately.
She took a bite of the egg pancake, smiling with narrowed eyes, "Delicious!"
"If you like it, eat more, next time I’ll make it for you again!" Xiao Jin tried hiding his pride, tail wagging high, betraying his mood.
Shen Tang couldn’t help but laugh.
She took a sip of the meat porridge, also fresh and savory, thoroughly satisfied, "By the way, I recall we’re out of flour at home?"
Lu Xiao explained, "Last night Hu Yun and the others came over, bringing a truckload of grains and vegetables. I saw you were asleep, so I didn’t disturb you."
"Let me have a look!"
After finishing breakfast, Shen Tang went to the yard, stunned by the piles of grain.
She went to the warehouse and was even more amazed.
They shipped so much?
Looks like Greenfield City’s harvest was quite good this season.
They can’t finish all that grain, they’ll have to find ways to sell it, otherwise it might spoil.
Greenfield City’s current grain production is sufficient for self-sufficiency. Recently, she’s been wanting to expand business lines, allowing grain sales to more places; this opportunity might be the start of that attempt.
