"you are two weeks pregnant," Dr Kimberly said

"no! I can't be, Dr you need to look again, do the test again. No... I can't be pregnant," I said

"the results don't lie Miss Udofia," the doctor said

"b... but how come? I... I took the pill doctor, I took the god-damned pill." I cried

"I have to say the pill does not give hundred percent assurance that they'll be no pregnancy," he said

I fell on my knees "this can't be happening, I am having a terrible dream and then I'll wake up and everything will be fine," I said and shut my eyes tight but it was no dream, this was all happening, I was carrying Jade's child.

"my life is ruined, my entire life is ruined," I said out

"no UK, just because you are pregnant doesn't mean that you're done for, we're all here for you no matter what. Instead of seeing it as a disaster, look at it as a blessing, as a beginning of a beautiful union. UK and JJ having a baby, it's something beautiful and magical," Tiffany said tapping my back.

"Beautiful? Magical?" I asked as I pushed her away and stood up "what is so magical about having a child without getting married?" nobody could answer.

"And you," I walked up to Jade "are you happy now? are you satisfied? you have completely ruined my life, are you satisfied?" I screamed

"UK please, I'm sorry I didn't want this to happen," Jade said

"I bet you didn't, I bet all you wanted was for me to thank you after what you did," I said

"no, I didn't mean to hurt you, I didn't want to you to go through any pain" Jade said

"And all I wanted to do is read for my exams, all I wanted to do was study but you decided to held me and forced yourself on me. Did you listen to my cries, did you pay attention to my pleading? And now look at what you've done to me, take a look at how you've destroyed my life Jade!" I cried

"Jade? did you actually force yourself on UK?" Tiffany asked and he looked down in shame

"sure you brought me to New York, I agree that you made me get a scholarship, you took care of my every needs and I became a popular person in New York because of you. Maybe that's why you thought you had the right to my life and could do anything you want to me, well that's where you are wrong Mr Jaden Kale. Because right now, I, Ukpono Udofia, do not want to have anything to do with you Jaden Kale. I don't want you, I don't want your money, I don't want your fame and I don't want your baby. yeah you guessed right, I am going to do everything in my power to get rid of this baby even if it's the last thing I do. I don't wanna ever see your face again," I said and turned to leave but he stopped me

"so you're gonna just forget about everything we shared?" he asked

"I won't just forget it, I'll completely erase it from my memory because from now on, you no longer exist"

"I thought you cared about me, you even said you love me," he said tears rolling down his cheek

"love? after what you've done you still think I love you? I don't have a shred of love for you anymore, I hate you Jade. I hate you!" And with that, I ran out of the hospital, I heard someone shout "UK wait!" but I didn't stop. I ran and ran, taking shortcuts and alleys until I reached the house, I didn't stop when Hannah called, I went up to my room, locked the door from inside and started packing. I only took the things which I bought with my money and the things I brought from home, not purchased with Jade's money. They were not much just my laptop, camera, headphones, few clothes and shoes, my novels and school books (due to our last fight in which he ignored me, I got all my school materials with the money I earned), I took my credit card and wallet and put them all in the duffel bag my mother gave me, the same one I used when I came to New York. I was checking if I'd forgotten anything when I heard banging on the door of the room

"UK! open the door this instant!" Jade barked

I rolled my eyes, pick up my bag and opened the door "what do you think you are doing? where are you going?" he asked

"none of your business, don't worry I only took what belongs to me, everything you ever got me is in there, I didn't take anything," I said

"I don't want you to go, please don't leave me," he begged

"not happening, don't worry, your family will be back to normal with this black girl gone," I said and pushed him away

"mommy, where are you going?" Juliet asked innocently

"sorry Juliet, but I gotta go," I said bypassing here

"stop this madness UK," Tiffany said as she got in with Xiao Ling, Darren, Max, Ariel and Natalie

"where will you be going?" Natalie asked

"far far away" I said and went out of the house. all their calls fell on deaf ears, I took a taxi to a hotel miles away from the house. As the taxi sped off, I realized that I was now totally alone in this big city.

I got into the hotel and went to the reception to get checked in, I had made some withdrawal from the closet ATM to avoid Jade from easily tracking me if I used my credit card. It wasn't a fancy hotel but it'd do, at least I had a place to stay for the next four days while I figured out what to do with my life.

The first thing I had to do was find a place to stay, an apartment or a condo will do. The problem about getting a place to stay was that if I found a place around here it'll be far away from school, and if I live close to school, Jade would easily locate me and I needed to be as far away from him as possible. and living in the dormitory was not an option for me. "God how I'm going to find a place to live?" I asked aloud. If it was in Nigeria, I would have been sure to see posters of "room to let", "self-con to let" and so on. I needed a nice but affordable house.

I took out my laptop and searched for apartments for rent, it took a while but I did found two places that seemed promising. I made an appointment to meet with the agents involved the following day. I was about to shut my laptop when I saw an ad "things to avoid when you are expecting".

"well, well, well, this is exactly what I was looking for," I said and clicked on the link. There were mainly list of food and drinks pregnant women should avoid, I saw things like pineapple, caffeine, high mercury fish, processed junks and alcohol.

Once I settled in, I was going to stock my house with lots of processed foods and take black coffee every single moment.

And for that to happen, I needed money. I had about twenty five thousand dollars from all the modelling and acting jobs I have been doing but it may finish before I knew it, at this point if I lose my scholarship then I'll be in big trouble. Speaking of which, I had to write to the school not to send my result to Jade's address. I took out my diary and wrote

1\. Get a house

2\. Get a work/make more money

3\. Get rid of the pregnancy

I planned on adding more things on the to-do list, as for now those three items were the most pressing needs of mine.

I didn't order room service but went to the nearest restaurant to eat, I was so glad that people didn't really recognize me as UK.

The following morning, after a breakfast of three cups of coffee and some English muffins, I went to meet the first house agent. He was a robust man of about six feet four, he had a very loud voice. "Hello Miss Udofia," he greeted

"hello Mr Lewis," I answered

"come I'm sure you'll find this apartment to your taste, it's simple but classy," he said as we got into the house. It was a nice house, the floor was made of wood and the walls were made of Plaster of Paris. A dull grey paint was the only decoration it had, there was a big living room with a kitchenette and a breakfast bar, it had two bedrooms, one toilet and bathroom. The back of the house looked so bushy and unkept. The house was okay it just needed a lot of work, this wasn't the kind of thing you can finish alone in three days.

"do you like it?" Mr Lewis asked

"yes..."

"perfect! that'll be twenty five hundred dollars, excluding utility bills of two hundred dollars. I'll take cash or transfer" he cut in

"wait what? I am not paying two thousand seven hundred dollars to live here, this house doesn't even worth that amount of money. Take a look at it, this placeneeds a whole lot of work before someone can live here," I told him

"Miss Udofia, when last did you pay a house rent? don't you know that the prices of house rent had gone up about two years ago?" he asked, I opened my mouth and shut it again. I have never paid a house rent in my life, I lived as a queen in Jade's house but never thought how things were with other people. I never knew what it meant to pay for electric bill and water, buy food with the money I earned and go through the pain of survival. I had been a Cinderella all this time but now, the fairytale was over and I needed to face the world. No matter how tough things may be, I had resolved in my heart to face them, I don't need Jade, I'll get over him, just like I got over Scott.
