Chapter 241: Chapter 241: Mortgage Loan
"Should I just summon a meteor to knock on the door?"
Grand Magician Meteor Fall Drinkwater stood somewhat disheveled on the shores of Dragon Island, feeling pretty lost for a moment there.
This wasn’t his first time coming to Dragon Island, but it was definitely the weirdest visit he’d ever had.
No way the entire Dragon Island had all its dragons off on the mainland doing business, right?
Even if that were the case, there should still be guards around, shouldn’t there? What if someone broke in?!
Flying up into the sky, he carefully scanned his surroundings. After who knows how long, he finally spotted what looked like a dragon hunting in the far distance. Without a second thought, Grand Magician Drinkwater flew right over.
Sure enough, a green dragon was hunting. It had grabbed a massive, long-haired elephant and was lifting it up like an eagle snatching a chicken.
"Excuse me, dragon..."
"A human? This isn’t a place you should be. Get out of here while all the guards are deployed elsewhere." The green dragon glanced at him and muttered, "A flying human... wonder what they taste like. Too bad they’re way too small. My Cherry definitely wouldn’t like them."
"..."
A cold sweat broke out on Grand Magician Drinkwater’s forehead. This situation was honestly worse than the previous times when they’d just extorted him. "Um, I’d like to deposit money in your Dragon Bank... and handle some other business. Would you be able to introduce me?"
"Cherry is incubating my dragon egg, I need to take care of her... but Dragon Bank is now run by the Council of Elders..."
The green dragon hesitated for a while. "I can take you to the Council of Elders. Everyone involved is over there. But whether the elders will see you and how they’ll treat you, I can’t guarantee. Also, I need to bring food to Cherry first."
Grand Magician Drinkwater showed his respect.
He didn’t really know what else to say. Either way, this beat wandering around Dragon Island aimlessly.
About half an hour later, Grand Magician Drinkwater arrived at the dragon race’s Council of Elders. The situation here really caught him completely off guard. Looking at everything around him, he couldn’t help but show a hint of shock on his face.
From the massive divine temple landing pad onward, every single detail surprised him.
"Little guy, you’re that human legend who can summon little rocks to hit people, right? What business can’t you handle on your mainland? Why’d you come all the way here specifically?" A silver dragon looked at Grand Magician Drinkwater pretty casually.
But anyone who understood these dragons would be a bit surprised. If they weren’t quite interested, dragons wouldn’t be this polite to a human.
No mortal race could get the dragon race to be this courteous, especially getting dragons from the Council of Elders to act like this!
"I won’t hide it from you. I’ve been hunted down on the mainland, and now I urgently need to auction something. I’m planning to mortgage my magic tower and my entire territory to Dragon Bank in exchange for a loan."
Grand Magician Drinkwater said without any hesitation, "My magic tower should rank in the top five among humans, and my territory is pretty large too. You can easily verify all of this."
"Oh? Mortgage everything? We charge 10% interest, you know." The silver dragon immediately perked up with interest.
"Yes, mortgage everything." Grand Magician Drinkwater didn’t hesitate at all.
Interest didn’t matter one bit. If he couldn’t fully recover himself, if he couldn’t fight his way back, his magic tower and territory would definitely end up with those enemies anyway. Right now, the most important thing was to recover quickly.
As for not being able to pay back the money? That wasn’t a problem.
The collateral was right there. If the dragons wanted, they could take it all back.
He’d rather give everything to the dragons than let his enemies get a single coin. Plus, maybe he could even get the dragons to announce first that these things belonged to the dragons—at least until the debt was paid, they belonged to the dragons.
Big business!
Finally someone wanted to borrow money!
The silver dragon got really excited now.
Since the auction started, in just a few hours, the funds collected by Dragon Bank had surged again, but there were hardly any borrowers yet. If this kept up, they’d actually lose money on the interest. Now they finally had a big client.
Human legends were famously rich, better at making money than any other race.
And magic towers? Pretty much every intelligent race needed those. You could say this was the perfect collateral!
"I see. Where are your magic tower and territory? I’ll send nearby dragons to check it out. I guarantee you’ll get an assessment report within an hour, and if everything goes smoothly, the money will be in your hands within three hours. It definitely won’t affect this auction."
The sudden change in tone left Grand Magician Drinkwater a bit dazed, but he didn’t stay that way for long. He quickly snapped out of it and started describing everything to the silver dragon.
As the first man to propose taking out a loan, Grand Magician Drinkwater successfully got a very high assessment. Basically, the dragons decided not to take any middleman profit and might even take a slight loss. They agreed to give Grand Magician Drinkwater a loan of 1.25 million gold coins.
Looking at the balance of 1.5 million dragon gold coins now in his account, Grand Magician Drinkwater finally breathed a sigh of relief!
"Even those old monsters shouldn’t be able to come up with more money to compete with me, right?"
"Of course. Among individual depositors right now, your account has the most money."
The silver dragon was all smiles now that the deal was done. "From what I’ve observed, that Spring of Life is basically yours for the taking. Just don’t get too greedy when it comes to bidding at the last second... Oh, by the way, you can stay at our Council of Elders for a few days. Wait until your body recovers before you leave. I’ll have someone prepare a room for you."
A creditor worth over a million gold coins—even though the collateral was solid, the silver dragon still didn’t want him to die. They wanted to complete the transaction normally and earn that 10% annual interest.
This guy’s current condition wasn’t exactly great. If he went out and died somewhere, that’d be awkward.
Plus, if he won something tomorrow at the auction, finding him would be a hassle. Might as well just invite him to stay here.
"If that’s possible, that would be even better."
Grand Magician Drinkwater was actually worried about being completely taken advantage of by these dragons, but when he thought carefully about his condition and looked at his account balance, staying at the dragon race’s Council of Elders seemed safer.
As for those enemies, he knew for sure they had no way to come to dragon territory and take him out!
After arriving in a cliff cave, Grand Magician Drinkwater quickly pulled out his Magic Net. At this point, the auction price for the Spring of Life was only 180,000 gold coins.
After watching for a while, Grand Magician Drinkwater muttered, "Those old guys probably haven’t made their move yet. They’ll probably wait until tomorrow when time’s almost up before bidding. Guess there’s no need to make an offer now. Let me check out the other treasures. If I can have a backup plan, that’d be even better."
