Chapter 58: Chapter 58
A pale, cold hand tugged the hair strand, constantly annoying her behind her ears, and a lazy voice sounded.
"Just take advantage of me! That’s what your little mind always thinks about!"
Though there was exasperation in his voice, on a closer look, his eyes were flashing with amusement.
"Aston, don’t be ! Others bully me for being ordinary. Aren’t you my golden thigh? If I don’t cling to you, how will I survive?" Lana blinked her eyes; her sweet and melodious voice made Aston’s lip curve into a huge smile.
"Alright! Alright! I will ask your professor to let you have some extra leaves!"
"Yeah! My third brother is the best!" Lana hugged Aston tightly before pulling away. "I will make your favorite cheese sandwich today!"
"Is this a bribe?" Aston let out a sound, somewhere between amusement and joy.
"Why? Are you an upright professor?" Lana wriggled her brows as she feigned a suspicious look.
"Well... I am, but if the bribe is a cheese sandwich plus Lana’s special burger, I won’t mind." Aston smirked, and Lana chuckled, snapping her finger.
"You have failed in your test! I am the principal in disguise. I was here to test your loyalty. Haha! Haha!"
Aston rolled his eyes and feigned a defeated look.
"Alright then, I will leave the position. But please tell my sister..." He drawled, before leaning toward her ears and whispering, "... that I will not give her any privileges."
"What? No! Aston, I was kidding! Hey! Aston!" Lana chased after the 23-year-old, widely known professor, Aston Almond of Shadowridge University.
.........................
The vision faded away, yet the bitterness lingered. Mr. Crow, who saw the entire scene, clamped his claws tightly around Lana.
His eyes darted to the newly arrived Aston, and a wave of fury washed over him.
"Right, Lana?" Aston’s languid voice echoed in the hushed gasps.
"Heartless and me? Come on, Aston..." Lana began but was interrupted by Aston’s cold voice.
"Huh?" Lana was taken aback by Aston’s words before giving a mocking smirk, "No."
"So why are you calling me, Aston? I am a professor, Miss Lana; address me properly!" Aston’s stern voice didn’t affect Lana.
Hey, she had seen his coldness in her previous life.
What is there to feel sad about?
Mr. Crow pursed his lips when a wave of sorrow flooded in through the link between him and Lana.
"Yes, Professor Aston." Lana’s confident smirk stunned Aston. "And as I was saying, Brenda may be pitiful, but it doesn’t wipe away the fact that I wasn’t the one committing cold violence on her. Go and hold accountable whoever is responsible."
Aston’s eyes flashed with a cold glint; he opened his mouth to retort, but the next second, the sound of Brenda’s sob attracted his attention.
Even though Brenda didn’t speak, her red eyes created a trace of pity in everyone’s heart.
In an instant, the frosty aura around Aston melted away, and he hugged her, his lazy voice now laced with gentleness and panic.
"Brenda, why are you crying? I am here, right? I will make sure that no one bullies you."
His cold eyes landed on Lana, while hushed whispers spread across the hallways.
"Wow! Brenda is so lucky! She has such a doting brother!"
"Honestly, Lana is too evil! If it wasn’t for the Almond family, I would have never even smiled at her!"
"Poor Brenda... she has lived such a tough life."
Lana heard the cold mocking words; her heart thudded with anxiety, yet her face held the same smile.
"Yes! Yes! She is a toddler, and I am the evil witch nanny pricking her with needles. Go ahead, present the evidence to the principal, and have me expelled."
Before others could react, Lana snapped her fingers at Aston and Brenda.
"Till then, just stay away from me. Without proof, your words are nothing more than barking."
With confidence in her steps, Lana pushed aside the first student who was gawking at her and wasn’t moving away, and in the next second, others automatically made way for Lana.
Watching Lana’s shrinking figure, a cold glint flashed in Brenda’s eyes, yet her lips curved into a smile.
’Today, that bitch might have understood that now, the only sister Aston acknowledges is me!’
Her gaze triumphantly shifted to Aston, who was gazing at Lana’s back with a dazed expression; her body froze.
The next second, tears rolled out of her eyes and dropped on Aston’s hand, attracting his attention. For origınal chapters go to novel(ꜰ)ire.net
"Brenda? Stop crying. It was my mistake that I didn’t arrive on time."
Brenda shook her head forcefully, feeling a bit stifled.
’I must have seen it wrongly. He must have been staring at Lana’s back because of the remnant feelings! Yes!’
On the way, Lana kept her silly and soft smile, while Mr. Crow pursed his lips before asking in anger,
"Why didn’t you tell others what you have endured? Why didn’t you remind that Aston guy about what you have done..."
"How do you know?" Lana asked in confusion, her brows furrowed slightly. Can he look into her memory, too?
"I had a vision. Maybe... those were the memories your mind was recalling because I could see it too." Mr. Crow explained in a soft voice.
"Oh..." Lana nodded and continued her walk while murmuring, "Damn! This Shadowridge University is so big! Even after attending it for two lifetimes, I am still not used to it."
"You haven’t answered." Mr. Crow’s voice sounded firm and steady, making Lana’s steps falter before she continued.
"Hm? Why should I tell others?" Lana questioned, "Did you think they would feel pity? Did you expect Aston to regret it? Or did you think that I would win the argument?"
Mr. Crow blinked, taken aback by Lana’s words.
"Mr. Crow, I am not weak to the point that I need sympathy or pity from others." Lana laughed.
"But public opinion can drown you..." Mr. Crow began, but Lana cut him off midway.
"I defended myself with valid points. Yet everyone sided with Brenda, not because they feel pity. It’s the power of the Almond family. Even my struggles would be laughed at...so..."
