Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Kael
The certainty that Sarah was in my penthouse made me go there that night with the sole desire to have her in my arms again. The previous night had been complicated because, even though I knew Ryan wasn't a rival, I felt jealous and decided to keep my distance from her, at least for the moment.
However, on that new day, I felt more confident and determined as I went up to the penthouse. Upon entering the living room, I found Sarah sitting on one of the sofas, using a quite old cell phone, indicating that she had been waiting for me.
"Good evening, Sarah," I greeted her. "I hope your day was pleasant."
She lifted her eyes from the phone and looked at me with a sparkle in her eyes upon seeing me. The realization that she was not immune to me, just as I was not immune to her, eased and reassured my feelings.
"Good evening, Kael," she replied, composed and showing indifference now. "I suppose being locked inside an apartment can't be considered pleasant."
Sarah stood up, approaching me quite bravely, considering her shyness, which I already knew she had. However, I didn't like the feeling that she felt like a prisoner, as it was never my intention to make her feel that way. Having her in my apartment was just a way to have her available without having to deal with her twin sister during the process, and also to protect her from Rachel, who could easily create another complicated situation, like what happened at the auction, and I would never allow that to happen again.
"You're free to go wherever you want, Sarah," I clarified. "When you want to go out anywhere, just contact my assistant, and he'll arrange for a car with a driver to take you."
"How convenient," she used sarcasm to say that and managed to increase my displeasure with her attitude that night.
"In a few minutes, we can have dinner," I preferred to change the subject. "I just need to take a shower first."
Without waiting for her response, I realized that an argument could start, so I decided to interrupt before it even began. I didn't want to fight with Sarah or turn our days together in the apartment into a battle. I recognized that the situation was complex, and I should never have involved Sarah in the dispute with Rachel. However, she was now in the middle of it all, and I desired her, intending to have her as many times as necessary to completely satisfy myself.
Feeling more determined than ever, I took a shower, got dressed, and returned to the living room, which was now empty. I quickly realized what had happened and became extremely upset with Sarah's childish behavior for expecting me to get involved in the argument. It seemed she wasn't as calm and docile as everyone had imagined.
Now, I was faced with an unpleasant dilemma. I could leave and go away, repeating the same attitude as the previous night, leaving her alone and locking myself in my room. Or I could pursue what I wanted and needed at that moment. I chose the second option because I desired to satisfy my desire for Sarah, and I didn't want to spend another night without having her in my bed. I postponed the dinner for another time since my hunger was not for food. I yearned for the delicate and sensitive girl that Sarah was, but she was becoming more like her sister, believing that was the only way to be strong and secure.
Sarah
When Kael arrived in the living room, my heart raced, but not out of disgust. Conflicting emotions took over me, but I scolded myself for having them. He wasn't someone I should nurture those feelings for.
After he left to take a shower and mentioned that we would have dinner soon, I realized how naive I had been to dress up and wait for him. He had manipulated us, me and Rachel, to be there that night. I couldn't simply give myself to him as if it were something I desired. As much as I wanted him, I had to admit to myself that he didn't deserve that feeling, and I couldn't hand it over so easily.
Feeling irritated, I left the living room and went to my bedroom, deciding not to have dinner with him. Hunger was the least of my concerns at that moment. A few minutes later, already dressed in my flannel pajamas, I heard Kael knocking on the door of my room with a tone of annoyance.
"Open this door, Sarah," he said, lightly tapping the luxuriously decorated wood.
"I don't want to have dinner," I said, assuming he was calling me for that. "I'm not hungry."
"I don't intend to force you to eat. I want to talk about something very important," he insisted.
"Tomorrow we can talk about this important matter. Today, I'm tired," I stubbornly replied.
"I want to talk to you, and it needs to be now," Kael said with a commanding tone.
I heard the sound of a new message notification on my phone and picked it up from the bed. I saw that the sender was Rachel, and I didn't care about Kael speaking imperatively on the other side of the door. I just went to read what she had sent.
Rachel: I'm leaving the country.
Rachel: My happiness isn't here.
Rachel: I hope you'll be fine.
Rachel: Never doubt my love for you, sister.
Those messages managed to shake my emotions for so many reasons that I couldn't even enumerate them at that moment, given the situation I was in. I wouldn't be able to talk to Kael that night.
Kael
Sarah was trying to play games with me, it must have been her intention, to not open the door and make me talk to her through that ridiculous obstacle. Her refusal to see me was increasing my irritation to the maximum.
"We have an agreement, Sarah," I reminded her. "And you need to fulfill your part."
"You have an agreement with Rachel, not with me," she had the audacity to say.
"In case you don't know, Rachel has gone to Spain, taking all the money with her."
I didn't want to use that argument, but I thought it was necessary to take advantage of that weapon now, as I believe Sarah might not be aware of her sister's recent actions.
The first thing Rachel did yesterday after receiving the two million dollars I transferred to her account was to pay the loan shark. The second thing was to go back to Arthur's nightclub and have a fun night surrounded by her old circle of friends. It didn't surprise me that today she decided to buy a ticket and travel to Barcelona with the same group, forgetting that she is no longer an heiress who can make international trips whenever she wants.
"In other words, she left you alone and without any money," I made sure to clarify the situation for Sarah.
