Chapter 45: Chapter 45
Later in the evening, Sofia found the time to talk to Victoria. With Davion not yet returned from work and Celestine still sleeping she was a little free. After four calls, Victoria answered her call. "Hey!" She said in a tired voice. Sofia immediately understood from her tone that something was wrong with her twin. Gone was the zeal, the merriment in her tone in place there was a dullness that wasn't Victoria at all. Concerned, Sofia felt more guilty than before.
"Were you sleeping, Vicky?" Asked Sofia softly.
"Yeah, I was up all afternoon studying for my upcoming assessments," Victoria informed her, in a serious and dull tone. Sofia frowned at her tone since Victoria was always in a state of excitement when she spoke to her.
"Oh, so have you heard the news or not? When are you coming down to see your niece?" Asked Sofia excitedly. There was silence on the other side. Now, this was getting strange since it wasn't at all like Vicky to not jump with joy at the prospect of being an aunt.
"Vicky?" Prompted Sofia. It was strange that she hadn't uttered a single word after hearing the news let alone squeal with joy as Sofia had expected her to do.
"Yeah, congrats, Sofi! I can't come now. I'm not well," said Victoria softly, her voice breaking a little. Sofia gasped with surprise. If Vicky wasn't well how come her parents didn't inform her at all?
"What happened to you?" Asked Sofia worriedly. Again there was silence on the other end. Sofia couldn't at all figure out what was wrong. They had never hidden anything from one another in the past and Victoria's behavior was getting her worried. It seemed as if something seriously was wrong with her twin.
"Are you there Vicky? You can tell me what happened, can't you? We've never hidden anything from one another since the day we were born," Sofia reminded her. Victoria sighed heavily. Sofia could hear her rapid breathing which meant that something serious was up with her. She knew Victoria. She was a go-getter and a fighter in the true sense of the term. She had never behaved this way ever!
"I'm pregnant too," said Victoria. Sofia was dumbfounded by her twin's admission. The immediate thought that hit her was whether it was Colton's baby or not. She was in a dilemma whether to ask her or not. It was a sensitive topic and she didn't want to probe yet she couldn't control her curiosity.
"Is it Colton's?" She couldn't help but ask her.
"No, it's his friend's. He spiked my drink and took advantage of me, " said Victoria in a hoarse voice. Sofia clasped her heart horrified by her twin's statement.
"How? When did all this happen? Does Colton know about it?" She asked angrily. She was upset that such a serious thing had happened and she had no clue about it.
"Yes, Colton doesn't care about me. He doesn't love me. I was foolish enough to fall for him. I just went to his friend's house to wish him on his birthday. I didn't like his group of friends so he asked me to have something before leaving. I had no idea that he would spike my food and drink and take advantage of me. When Colton came to know about it, he broke my heart with words that hurt me more than what his friend did to me," choked Victoria as she burst into hopeless tears. Sofia's heart sank hearing what happened to her. She had no idea that a crime had happened and she had no idea about it.
"Vicky, don't cry. This is serious. Do mom and dad know about it?" asked Sofia although she had a suspicion that their parents had no clue what Victoria went through and neither did they have any clue to her pregnancy. She had no idea how her twin had managed to hide it from their parents staying under the same roof with them.
"No, I haven't told anyone. No one will believe me, Sofi. After all, it's my fault that it happened with me," said Victoria in a panic. Sofia realized how deeply she had been affected by the heinous crime.
"No, Vicky. It's not your fault at all. It's the man's fault. What he did is a punishable offense," she tried to convince her twin. "We need to tell mom and dad and get the guy punished for what he did to you," said Sofia.
"I don't want to tell anyone, Sofi. I'm scared that people will judge me, they'll all point fingers at me. I can't face mom and dad. As it is it's of no use. We cannot punish him since he doesn't live there anymore and there's no proof of his crime," said Victoria, wiping her tears.
"Of course there is. The baby growing inside you is proof enough," said Sofia incredulously.
"What proof is there that I didn't willingly have se* with him? When Colton couldn't believe me, do you think anyone will?" Asked a broken Victoria. Sofia was quiet. She was right. There was no proof. "Promise me that you won't tell anyone, Sofi. If you do, I'll leave home forever," threatened Victoria. Sofia's heart went out to her twin. She didn't want to upset her further. She had already gone through a lot on her own.
"I won't but how long can you hide it?" Asked a worried Sofia.
"I'll tell everyone when the time is right," said Victoria.
Sofia was very upset about what Victoria told her but she couldn't tell her parents due to Victoria's threat. She couldn't tell Davion too as he might pick up a fight with Colton. That would spoil his relationship with Colton as well as hers with Victoria. So although she was worried about Victoria, her hands were tied and she waited for updates every day from her mom. It seemed that Victoria had listened to her and consulted a therapist after all. So Sofia felt a little relieved and concentrated more on her baby.
