Chapter 75: Chapter 75
My life had been pretty quiet lately, Mona had been living in my house for a while and the kids loved her. Jack didn't contact me in person or showed up at my door anymore, even Diana told me that Jack hadn't contacted her. It was just that my lawyer called me and told me that Jack again rejected the divorce proposal and then asked if I wanted to sue for divorce.
There had been no further news about Athan Buffay on TV, and according to Elaine, he appeared to be announcing a period of recuperation while his own sister Amelia Buffay ran the business. Which Elaine, who was spreading the news was even more surprised than me.
“They always hated each other,” Elaine said while smoking a cigarette, “she is 6 years older than him, and she always wanted to lead their pack. However, their father obviously prefers Athan, the younger son. And it is said that he made the two siblings fight for anything since they were children, he made them treat each other as enemies since they were young.”
“Why would he do that to them?” I asked.
Elaine raise her eyebrows, “I thought you said that you weren’t interested.”
I ignored her sarcasm and went back doing my job – warming up her food for her.
Elaine was used to my silent, so she glared at me and continued: “I heard that Athan's father was a very strong leader, tough and ruthless. Nothing is more important to him than finding the most suitable heir, so he doesn't care if his children are on good terms with each other. He only wants the strongest heir. So, Athan and his sister were trained by him on the real battlefield since they were children, and that’s where he found that Athan inherited a strong werewolf gene, he is an natural leader.” Elaine glanced me, “didn’t you notice how dreadful he becomes when he gets angry?”
Of course I remember, how could I forget. His strong aura and his ruthless eyes used to make me terrified, and the way he fought on battle, is seemed like he didn’t care for his life.
I can't believe that his childhood was like this.
He once said to my son Mike that he started trying to control his wolf from a very young age. I couldn't help but picture the scene of young Athan locked up in a room, fighting the bloodthirsty beast in his mind. He must been lonely and scared, and who would he talk to? His father who only wished him to get stronger, or his own sister who just wanted to defeat him?
I turned to Elaine and asked her: “if that’s the case, then why would he let his sister help him running his business?”
Elaine shrugged and put out her cigarette, “it must be about his marriage, the elders in his pack always wanted him to get married and produce heir, that’s his responsibility as an alpha leader. They have been trying to set him up with someone, but he claimed that he has a mate, and one day he will find her. So I’m guessing they are pressuring him again, and Amelia took advantage.”
I had no idea that there were so much drama behind Athan, because he never told me about his troubles. In fact, in my memory, he always seemed so relaxed and powerful. But soon I laughed at myself, maybe it was because he didn't care that much, so he didn't bother to share his feelings with me.
It was almost midnight again, so I handed the heated meal to Elaine and got ready to leave work. Before I left, she stopped me.
“Katherine Green,” Elaine looked hesitated, but after a few seconds, she put on her arrogant look again, “don’t be late tomorrow!”
She was acting strange today, but she was always a capricious person. It's like today she suddenly told me a whole bunch of things about Athan Buffay, but actually a lot of the time she barely speaks to me, especially after she realizes that I had absolutely no idea where Athan Buffay is and what was going on with him. Sometimes I felt that she didn’t actually love Athan, it's just that her self-esteem couldn’t accept the fact that anyone would reject her, that's why she was so obsessed with Athan.
Though, again, none of my business.
Katherine, you don’t want anything to do with him anymore. I told myself.
When I got to my apartment building, it was past midnight. I got out of the car and went to the front door, when all of a sudden the hairs on my body stood up.
Someone was approaching to me!
I pretended not to notice anything and just continued walking slowly. Immediately, when a powerful aura pressed close behind me, I quickly turned around and aimed at the person’s neck! It was dark and I couldn’t see the person’s face, only noticing that he was very fast and dodged all my attack.
And it didn’t seem like he wanted to hurt me, because I was clearly not his match.
“Since you are not going to hurt me, then show yourself.” I stopped my move and said to the person.
The man paused for a moment, then he walked slowly forward. The lights at the front gate let me finally see his face, but I was stunned.
It was my father, Luther Green!
