Chapter 57: Chapter 57

I exchanged phone number with Mona before I left, and she was concerned for me when I said bye, her word lingered in my head, “you should be very careful Katherine, the werewitch drug basically locked up your wolf deep in your body, and once it break free, it might take over your body and lose control. You need to find your destined mate, whoever he is, because he might be the only person that can help you!”

My destined mate, the father of my kids, the man from 5 years ago. All the puzzles stared to putting together in my head, but only made me more frustrated. Where could I find a mysterious werewolf from 5 years ago? And even if I do, what should I say to him, should I hate him?

I looked at the books in my hands, I borrowed them from Mona, these are records about the Primordial Werewolf, including which packs have inherited their bloodline. After seeing my son Mike’s rapid development as a werewolf, I couldn’t help but doubt his blood. Besides, I had to start from somewhere…

On my way back home, I got a phone call from the hospital, it was from Jack’s doctor - Dr. Sinn.

“Jack is not doing too well right now. This afternoon, his blood pressure plummeted and he experienced brief apnea. He was in a coma, and if he does not receive a bone marrow transplant soon, he will die at any time. I suggest you come to the hospital right now and maybe bring the kids too...”

My hands were shaking uncontrollably, and I had to hold the steering wheel tightly to keep driving. Jack is critically ill, what should I do...

I headed straight back home and picked up the kids.

“Mommy, are we going to see Papa Jack? Did he miss us?” Lily’s naïve voice made me feel so bad, how am I supposed to tell them that their Papa Jack may leave them forever? I quickly wiped the corner of my eyes so they won’t see my tears, and I drove as fast as I could to the hospital.

“Miss Green, thank god you are here.” Dr. Sinn met us at the hallway, and he said with concerns: “I got contacted from Mr. Athan Buffay’s medical team this morning, saying that they are ready for starting inject the mobilization drug for Mr. Buffay, so after five days, his bone marrow can be harvested.”

Athan? He contacted the hospital? However…

Just when I was in contemplation, Dr. Sinn continued: “however Mr. Jack had informed me that he will not accept Mr. Buffay’s bone marrow transplant, and he signed a waiver when he was conscious.”

I felt my breathing almost stop, Jack meant it, he’s actually going to give up his only chance…

“Katherine, may I speak to you alone?” it was Jack’s assistant Dan. He led me to the other end of the hallway, and said: “I know that this might be too much to ask, but Mr. Harden really needs your support right now. He had been talking to several private detectives recently, and every time after meeting with them, he will get angry or very upset…”

Dan looked so worried, and kind of embarrassed, but he continued: “As far as I know, he's been investigating about Athan Buffay and his company, and...and you. He's become very suspicious and irritable, and my apologies, I personally think a big reason why he's reluctant to have the transplant is because of you, he cares about you more than his life.”

Dan looked at me seriously, and he bowed deeply to me: “please think of a way to convince him to do the transplant, don’t give up on him.”

Honestly, even though I have seen Jack’s will, I was still shocked. He had been investigating Athan and me, and he even lost control of his emotions countless times because of this. I covered my face and teared silently, Jack, I don’t deserve your love…

When I brought the kids into the ward, Jack was in bed on a ventilator. Mike and Lily ran to his side and hugged him. Jack smiled happily after a long absence. He chatted with the children in a weak voice and asked them to sing a song for him.

“Papa Jack, when are you taking us to a trip?” Lily asked him.

“You see, I’m too sick right now, but I will make mommy will take you, and uncle Dan will go with you.” Jack smiled at her, I saw tears in his eyes.

“But we want you to join us, too.” Mike said to Jack, and he held his hand: “we will wait until you get better, so we can all go together!”

The kids were my last hope, I wish they will be persuasive than me. After letting them talk with Jack, I asked Dan to take them outside so I could talk to Jack alone.

“Jack, please. They kids can’t lose you.” I was begging, “why are you doing this to yourself?”

Jack put away his gentle smile, he looked into my eyes and said: “okay, I will take the transplant, if you promise me that you will never see him again.”

Jack's expression was so determined, as if he was ready to say something. He's forcing me to choose, whether to choose him to live, or to be with Athan Buffay and watch him die. At that moment, I felt that I hardly knew the man in front of me anymore.
