Chapter 28: Chapter 28

He is dead? I stepped back one after another, but still couldn't hold my body and fell to the ground.

No, I don't believe it! I got up and rushed in front of Markus. I grabbed him by the collar and said loudly, "You say it again, what happened to him?"

This time, Markus turned his head aside and said nothing.

It was as if all of my strength was suddenly drained, and just as I was about to fall, Markus hold my shoulders for me to keep my balance just in time.

"You two, take Miss Katherine back to her car," he said to the two werewolves behind him. Just as I was in the dark, I suddenly felt that Markus was stuffing something in my pocket, I looked at him, and Markus shook his head at an almost invisible angle.

I understood it, and quietly followed the two men and left.

By the time I got back to the car, it was almost noon. I couldn't wait to take out what was in my pocket, it was a note with a string of phone numbers on it, and the word, midnight.

I started the car, went home, took a shower, changed clothes, and then set off for the hospital. I don't know what happened to Athan Buffay or the purpose of the note Markus left me, but I know that once I call that number, I might be in endless danger.

Jack frowned the moment he saw me: "What's wrong with you? Are you hurt?"

I was very moved that Jack was always the first to notice my situation. I shook my head gently, walked up to sit on the edge of his bed, and held his hand.

"Jack, do you remember what I told you, your donor?" I asked.

Jack's expression turned serious and he nodded.

"Something happened to him, and I have to find out if he's okay," I said. "So, there are a few things I want to tell you."

Jack took my hand back and his tone became anxious: "Don't go."

I didn't expect Jack to say that, he never interferes with anything I do. I looked at him suspiciously, and Jack said again: "You told me that my donor is Athan Buffay, there are many people around him, you don't need to take risks." Seeing that I wanted to refute, Jack patted my hand lightly and said, "If something happens to him, we can find another donor."

I didn't expect Jack to have this attitude, but I also understood in an instant that Jack thought I was going to Athan Buffay to make sure the surgery could go ahead as scheduled. But is that so? I asked myself, since I heard the news of the explosion, I haven't thought about the surgery at all, all I could think about is whether Athan Buffay is safe or not. Maybe it's because I panicked, I said to myself.

"It's not that simple," I looked at Jack, "Jack, listen to me, I'm just going to have a look." I pulled my hand out of his palm, "I can't be sure that he is okay until I see him in person. But while I'm gone, I need you to trust me."

Jack sighed, he smiled slightly, his smile looked bitter: "Well, since it's something you've already decided, I know it's useless to persuade you. Mike and Lily, I'll send people to take care of them, don't worry." After that, Jack lay back on his pillow, closed his eyes gently and said, "I'm a little tired, I want to rest."

I knew that Jack didn’t understand what I was doing, but I have to go to Athan Buffay. I covered him with blankets as usual, stood up and walked to the door of the ward, just as I was about to leave, Jack suddenly asked me behind me, "Katherine, can we go back to the way we were?"

I paused for two seconds, then turned around and smiled at him: "Of course, when you are healed, everything will be fine!"

Walking out of Jack's ward, I felt exhausted. Hopefully, everything will be fine.

After leaving the hospital, I went to Mike and Lily's school to pick up the kids from school.

"Mommy, Mike has a girlfriend!" Lily yelled when she saw me. Mike sullenly reached out and covered his sister's mouth. Lily ran away and shouted: "There are a lot of girls in the school who like Mike, and they all want to be his girlfriend!"

I looked at the playful two kids, Mike and Lily, who were about to turn five, and they both got prettier as they got older. Especially Mike, whose looks stand out among children of his age.

When I got home, I made dinner for the children and put them to sleep before changing into light clothes and leaving the house.

I am sitting in the car at the moment, and my fingers are shaking slightly. I held the note tightly, and with one minute to go until 12 midnight, I stared nervously at the hands of my watch.

58, 59, 60!

I dialed that number, and the someone from the other side picked up the phone quickly: "Hello, Who is this?"

"This is Katherine Green." I tried to sound calm.

"Great, Katherine!" It was Markus's voice, and he sounded excited: "Today..." Before he could finish, he was interrupted by a noise. My hand holding the phone froze and I almost dropped the phone to the ground.

That's... gunshots!
