Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Weston has been half awake all night, attuned to Millan's exhaustion and lack of sleep.
At around midnight, Weston had considered going to Millan's room and demanding to cuddle him until he slept for at least eight hours. He decided against it, his wolf instincts telling him to wait for Millan to come to him.
Weston is now so glad he listened to his wolf.
He’d been in between dreamland and consciousness when he’d heard his door opening slowly and quiet, small, tentative steps entering the room.
The familiarity of the scent undeniable.
Millan.
Butterflies erupted in Weston’s stomach but he forced himself to keep even breaths, pretending to still be asleep.
He wanted to know what Millan was going to do next.
He was surprised and a little disappointed when he heard him settle on the hardwood floor.
Now perched above his bed, Weston is observing Millan's curled up figure.
His heart skips a beat when he realizes the omega is wearing his sweatshirt. He’d been wondering where he’d put that. How did Millan manage to have it, that’s a story Weston would be interested in hearing, but that’s neither here nor there.
Weston needs to decide what to do now.
Does he let Millan sleep on the floor and pretend he didn’t notice?
It can’t be comfortable. Surprisingly enough, Millan is actually sleeping if their bond is anything to go by.
Still. He’s so close. Weston bites his lip.
Silently dropping to the floor next to Millan, Weston gently takes him into his arms, careful not to wake him. He pauses, making sure the movement didn’t disturb Millan's slumber.
The boy only turns his nose towards Weston, evidently scenting him. It makes his chest swell almost to the point of hurting. Placing him on the bed, Weston wonders if he should sleep on the floor or in bed with Millan.
He eventually gives in to his desire to cuddle his Fated Mate, thinking he’ll deal with the aftermath later if need be.
He just wants Millan to be comfortable and safe and there’s no better place than in Weston’s arms.
If Millan doesn’t see that just yet, as Nara had said, it’s just a matter of time.
And when Millan sighs contentedly, Weston smiles and finally lets himself relax too.
*****
Weston has been awake for twenty minutes now, just observing Millan's calm sleeping face and smiling like an idiot.
He’s so glad Millan is finally getting some sleep and his wolf is just preening at the fact that the omega is doing so in his arms.
His head snaps up as his door was knocked on twice before suddenly slammed opened. He frowns, wolf ready to defend his omega, until he recognizes the blond.
“Weston! We need you in the conference room, the Council’s- ”
Amir is shouting and Millan is stirring at the noise.
Weston interrupts Amir, half shouting half whispering.
“Amir! Keep it down.”
Amir then seems to finally recognize Millan's bundled up figure pressed to Weston’s chest.
“Oh… oh!” The blond omega steps towards the bed and lowers his voice. “Did you finally tell him?”
Weston rolls his eyes. Amir has been nagging him about the Fated Mate thing since they’ve known about it.
“No, Amir, I haven’t and I won’t. He needs to realize on his own.”
“Okay. Well that’s the stupidest thing I- ”
“Amir. What do you want?”
They’ve had this conversation before and now isn’t really the time and place for a debate on his love life.
“Council Meeting.”
Weston sighs, reluctant to leave Millan's sleeping form just yet.
“Can you handle it, Amir? I just want Millan to get more sleep…”
He knows that as soon as he leaves, Millan is going to wake up again and he’s only been sleeping for three hours tops.
“Sure.” Amir turns to leave but stops himself and turns back around, an apologetic look on his face.
“Uhm actually… not really. Sorry. It’s just… trouble with the Brook Pack. I really think you should be there.”
Weston frowns, now concerned for his pack’s safety, as well as Millan’s. They’ve been having more and more issue with their Northern Border lately.
“Okay, I will be there. Give me a minute.”
“No problem.” Amir backs away. “But like, it’s an emergency… so...”
“Yeah, I get it Amir. Give me a minute.”
“Okay, okay.”
Amir gets out hastily as Weston sighs again. As he tries to get up, Millan's grasp on him tightens.
Weston chuckles.
*****
Millan's body feels heavy as he wakes.
He doesn’t want to wake up just yet. His nose is in scent heaven, his body is wrapped in just the right amount of warmth. He rubs his face on the most comfortable pillow he’s ever laid on but then it vibrates.
That’s a weird feature, he thinks as he awakens a bit more.
“Hey, sleepy head, I’m sorry but I need to get up. You’ll have to let me go, I’m afraid.”
When he opens his eyes reluctantly, Millan is met with a broad chest. Looking up, gold amused eyes return his gaze.
Realization dawns on him and he lets go hastily.
He is in Weston’s bed.
How did he get there? How long did he sleep for?
More importantly, he was embracing Weston so tightly, the alpha couldn’t get up!
Mortified, Millan blushes furiously, muttering an inaudible apology. Weston chuckles.
“Don’t worry about it, Mill. I would have cuddled with you longer but I have an emergency meeting to attend to.”
Millan gapes. The nonchalance in Weston’s voice floors him completely.
How can he act normal when they were just cuddled up in his bed?
Is Millan dreaming?
Weston gets up and changes. Millan's focus is pulled to Weston’s bare muscled chest and his abs as he puts his clothes on. Millan gulps.
Halfway out the door, Weston turns to Millan who’s still sitting up in his bed.
“I’ll see you afterwards for breakfast, yeah?”
The hope and happiness in Weston’s eyes is evident that he doesn’t even know if he was dreaming or not.
Why would Weston be so excited about eating breakfast with him?
Millan nods distractedly.
“Yeah, okay.” Millan responds, still in a sleepy haze, brain overloaded with unanswered questions.
Weston’s smile is wide as he leaves. As soon as the Alpha is out the door, Millan lays back on the bed, looking at the high ceiling.
What happened just now?
Did he just sleep in Weston’s arms?
Did Weston not mind at all?
He acted so normal.
More importantly, it felt right. It felt like they were an old couple, waking up next to each other, going about their day.
What in the fucking hell is happening?
