Chapter 29: Chapter 29
"Good morning, Sir," said Beatrice while smiling broadly at her boss, who was standing and was opening the door for her.
"What are you doing here?" Aaron asked, clearly surprised to see her presence at his doorstep. Of course. He did not call his secretary at all. Likewise, Beatrice did not inform him about her visit. "What's the matter?" He asked again, amid his surprise.
"I want to give the file that Mr. Stone's secretary sent for your meeting tomorrow. Mr. Stone also ordered through his secretary that you were asked to study it first so that tomorrow's meeting went smoothly," she answered at length. She then reached into her extensive bag and pulled out a green folder from it. After that, she handed the map to him. "This is, sir."
Aaron received it with mixed feelings. He was both surprised and confused by this sudden situation. "Isn't the meeting scheduled with Mr. Stone tomorrow after lunch?" he asked, starting to open the green folder and skimmed through its contents.
"Yes, sir. The meeting schedule is at two in the afternoon."
He nodded. He also thought it was around that time. Oh, he always took the time to look at his schedule the day before because there might be an important meeting that needed more priority from him. Just as he was about to express his gratitude, a voice from inside his house interrupted him.
"Who is it, honey?" Of course, the voice belonged to Helena.
Aaron turned around and found his wife was walking towards him. He swallowed hard when he saw his woman was tying her hair in a movement that he was sure was normal but somehow looked so sexy in his eyes. Apparently, the effect of their kiss was still vivid in his mind.
"Who's the guest, honey?" Helena repeated her question because she never got a reply from him. With certainty, she swung her legs towards him, who was still staring at her from the doorway. In an instant, Helena was next to the man. She unhesitatingly wrapped her arms around him until their bodies were pressed against each other.
"Oh, it's you, Beatrice," she said, looking surprised and enthusiastic at the same time. "What's the business here?" She did not ask Beatrice but her husband.
Aaron noticed her gesture, so what he did then was to look back at his wife. Maybe he was just not good at acting, especially when that ability was needed at times like this—when Helena indirectly signaled him to follow the game. He didn't promise to do it well.
But, if it was only limited to this, there was no need to doubt his abilities. Looking at Helena's eyes was one of his favorite activities. And he loved staring into those brown eyes so often that Helenas was made awkward because of it. So, he only needed to do it, right? Staring at her and looking at her lovingly.
"Work matter. There's an important meeting with Mr. Stone tomorrow. Beatrice said that Mr. Stone's secretary sent a file for me to study. So, she brought it here," he answered, revealing the facts.
Helena nodded, then stretched out her hand to take the green folder that he was holding. "It's Sunday, honey. Don't bother her on her day off. Let her take a break," she said to him, but without looking at the man. Her attention was drawn to the file in her hand, which she began to skim.
Although she was not involved in the family business, she had sufficient knowledge. Since her youth, her father had taught her the ins and outs of the business world. Understandably, at that time, her curiosity about her father's work made her approach the head of the family and learn many things from him.
However, her mother remained her idol, so she wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps. Oh, once her mother was an important person in their company. Her mother chose to give up that career after marrying her father.
Aaron opened his mouth, ready to protest her words. But, his words were held back because Beatrice had preceded him.
"I took the initiative to come here, ma'am. I printed it and immediately brought it here so that Mr. Houston could read it immediately."
"Is that so?" Helena asked, not taking her focus away from her reading. "Why not just email it? It would be faster, wouldn't it? And you didn't have to bother coming here."
Precisely! This exactly was what Aaron thought when he received the dossier from Beatrice. What was the use of technology if it was not used?
"It's okay, ma'am. I had plans to go out earlier. So I can stop by," said Beatrice quickly.
Helena's gaze shifted to the woman in front of her. Her eyebrows rose. "Really? We just happened to be leaving. So we couldn't linger and tell you to come in."
Beatrice looked a little nervous. Maybe, she did not expect to get a reply like Helena. "Oh!" She was confused to respond to her interlocutor.
"I'm sorry, that sounds like throwing you out. But, we have a lunch appointment with my parents. And we have to get ready now." Helena reasoned.
Yes, it was an expulsion that was subtly spoken by Helena. And Beatrice just realized it when the word 'throw out' entered her ears. "Yeah, it's okay, ma'am. I understand that both of you have an appointment."
Helena nodded, then smiled at her husband's secretary. "Thank you for understanding, also thank you for delivering this important file on your day off," she said with a tone of guilt and gratitude at the same time.
"But next time, if Mr. Houston doesn't ask you to come here, you don't have to come. What if we happen to be away? The house is empty, and your arrival is in vain." She continued, clearly insinuating Beatrice's actions that appeared in front of their house so sudden.
She noticed the change in Beatrice's face. Only a fool didn't get her direct sarcasm. As an intelligent woman and remembering what Bearice's job was, it was impossible not to understand. She should have been steered by her words. And that was how it really was. Beatrice's smile looked so forced when replying to her comments.
"Yes, ma'am. I'm sorry. Next time, I will inform you of my arrival first. Excuse me."
"Yes. Be careful on your way back, Beatrice," Helena said with a big smile on her face. Of course, she was happy. Who wouldn't be satisfied after getting rid of an uninvited intruder? And if she didn't act soon, she was sure that Beatrice would use this opportunity to trigger her anger and lead to a fight with Aaron. Indeed that was why Beatrice came to their house for.
"Goodbye, sir, ma'am," Beatrice said her goodbyes before walking towards her car and getting in.
Helena smiled one last time before the black car left their house area. And after the vehicle was ultimately out of sight, her smile vanished, replaced with her face, which now looked cold. She closed the file in her hands with a bit of roughness. Then she left the place without intending to look at her husband, who had been standing quietly beside her all this time.
