Chapter 27: Chapter 27
Helena watched Aaron lighting three small candles that he had deliberately placed in the middle of the dining table. Her eyes followed his husband's movements as he walked over to the light switch, turning off the light source on the first floor and leaving only the dimly lit lamp in the kitchen. Then the man walked back into the dining room. He pulled a chair that was directly opposite him then sat there.
"How is this? Looks romantic, doesn't it?" he asked, satisfied with the results of his work. Oh, of course. He prepared everything, from cooking their dinner meal to setting the table with simple decorations. He only put the little candles there, and he was done. Their romantic dinner was ready to begin.
Helena giggled as she saw everything, how his efforts to prepare everything. Actually, from the beginning, her hands were itching to help his husband. However, he stopped her and told her to sit back and relax. So, since then, she had had no other job than to pay attention to all of his behavior. "Yeah, not bad," she complimented. Yes, it was a sincere compliment she gave for his actions, which was succeeded in creating this simple yet romantic atmosphere.
"Shall I pour the wine now?" he offered.
She glanced at the dark bottle close to him. Aaron had opened it earlier so that now he could freely pour it. "Yes, please," she asked as she raised her empty glass and handed it to him.
He took the bottle then stood up to fill the glass in his wife's hand. He didn't pour it all the way through, but only half of it.
"Tell me. What movie inspired you to create this situation?" Helena asked as he was filling her empty glass.
"A lot. Scenes like this often appear in movies, especially romantic movies. In fact, in the last Korean drama we watched, the male lead also prepared this kind of dinner." Really, it was a long answer to a simple question.
Her eyebrows rose, not expecting to get such a long reply. But, her husband's statement had some truth. What he did was often seen in many films and drama series. In fact, even when in the restaurant, the atmosphere was not much different. What distinguishes was the beautiful night view from behind the large windows in that place, the restaurant services, and other visitors, which could actually reduce the romantic effect created. But, what could they do? The restaurant was a public place to eat. Unless it was just renting it for the two of them, she and other visitors must be willing to share the comfortable atmosphere. "You're right," she said, agreeing with his words. "It's a too ordinary scene." She continued to comment.
"But, still romantic," he added. His hand raised his glass. "Cheers?"
She imitated him by raising her glass again. Then, she touched the glass rim to make a tingling sound that echoed throughout the room. "Cheers."
And their dinner began.
To be honest, there was nothing special on their dinner menu. It was still similar to the movie. A large piece of steak accompanied by some complements, such as chunks of potato, broccoli, and a few sticks of asparagus. And they must not forget the red wine. A familiar yet usual sight, right?
But, she would not protest about the menu selection. It was precisely the scenes that were often seen and made the romantic atmosphere feel much bolder. Anyone who saw this would immediately feel the romance created.
"What are your plans after this?" she asked as she cut her steak, then shoved it into her mouth.
"How about watching a romantic movie?"
Her forehead wrinkled. The pieces of steak she was chewing seemed to have been destroyed for a long time. What was with Aaron and romance? Why did he sound so obsessed with it today?
"What's the matter with you? You rarely talk about romantic things like this," she asked, confused.
He stared fixedly at her eyes. After that, a heavy sigh escaped his lips. "I'm seducing you," he explained, resigned to his wife's insensitivity.
After hearing that, she realized something. She also remembered Aaron's words when he expressed the idea of a romantic dinner. But, it was not her if she admitted her defeat so soon. "Oh, really?" She pretended to be surprised as if the sentence had just woken her up.
Aaron mumbled in the affirmative.
"Breakfast this morning was also your seduction?" She remembered his behavior this morning. When she thought about it, her husband's behavior was very kind this day. Not that he mistreated her on other days. It was just that she felt as if she was pampered by him.
"I didn't mean that. But if you think like that, then let's just say it was true."
She took a sip of wine in her glass, then asked, "For what purpose are you seducing me? I mean, apart from getting us closer. Is there anything you want from me?"
His movement stopped. He fixed his attention on Helena and looked deep into those eyes. "Yes," he answered simply.
Suddenly, a feeling of nervousness hit her. The way he looked at her felt like penetrating the depths of her eyes so that she often made mistakes. On the one hand, she hated that gaze because of the effect. On the other hand, she really loved how he looked at her as if she was the center of his world. "What?" She tried to keep her voice from sounding nervous.
Aaron looked into the woman's eyes for a long time and let the silence take over until he suddenly broke it off. "Just forget it." He was back to enjoying his food.
"Why?" Helena showed her protest. Oh, who liked to be treated like that? He made her curious and let the feeling hang because he didn't answer her curiosity. He was very heartless.
"You won't be able to grant it now," he replied without looking at her.
Instantly, her face heated hearing those words. It seemed that she knew what Aaron wanted. Could it be? "J-Just tell me," she said, unable to hide her nervousness anymore. Actually, she didn't want to continue this topic. But, it felt wrong if she didn't listen to his wishes. The problem for that to be granted or not, she could think about later. The most important thing for her was to first know his thoughts.
He returned his gaze to the woman in front of him. For a moment, he looked doubtful. His brain was working on the way to put it. In a serious tone or with a tone to tease her. "Honeymoon." In the end, he chose the first option. "About when will we do it?" he asked, still with the same intonation.
The seriousness in his voice made her almost choke. She hastily picked up her glass, then drained the contents in one gulp. After feeling calm enough, she ventured to look back at her husband. The look in the man's eyes showed the same thing. "Sorry." Softly, she said. Guilt rose in her chest. But she couldn't force herself, either. "I'll tell you later when I'm ready," she continued.
A wide smile bloomed on his lips. He could understand Helena's feelings because he caused those feelings, and he couldn't blame her for reacting that way. "Don't worry. I can wait," he said, trying to calm his wife down. "Just make sure you don't kick me when I've stripped you naked," he joked, holding back his joke. "And don't blame me if I make it hard for you to get out of bed." He added.
Her face turned bright red. This sudden change of situation made her unable to control her expression. "Aaron!" she exclaimed.
And Aaron only laughed out loud at seeing her reaction. It turned out that teasing his wife was so much fun.
