Chapter 16: Chapter 16

As a housewife, Helena had quite a lot of free time. She could say that the afternoon was a relaxing time. There wouldn't be Aaron who used any excuse to approach her. She was alone and free to use her time doing whatever she wanted to do.

The situation of only living together with Aaron was quite advantageous. Her house chores were not too much, and most importantly, she could relax doing it. There was no obligation for her to be diligent. Aaron would voluntarily help her if she felt lazy. And if the reluctance was so heavy, she could call someone to do her work. It was easy, right?

There were many things she could do to fill her spare time. Most often, she used it to look for new recipes. Though she didn't know when to try them. Or another activity that was no less frequent was watching movies, TV series, or whatever interested her, such as what she was doing. She was watching a romantic comedy film in her living room. And alone, of course. There were only fresh fruits as a snack and a glass of guava juice within reach.

However, the focus of her mind was not there. Her concentration was divided into the collection of scenes in front of her and her husband in his office. While her index finger did not stop moving around the rim of the glass with a dreamy gaze, that was a sign that Aaron had dominated her mind.

To be honest, Aaron wasn't the main character of her anxiety. Do you want to guess who? Yes, Beatrice. Who else? There were no worries for couples who had only been married for a month, other than external factors. As a drama, her husband's secretary was trouble.

Since the beginning of her meeting with Beatrice, Helena could feel the woman's dislike for her. However, she tried to ignore it. Why? Because she didn't want to act rashly just based on her subjective feelings. It was the time that she needed dominance from the side of her rationality to remain calm.

Helena puffed softly. She always felt annoyed when she remembered her wedding day. Fortunately, the secretary was not invited when the sacred promise was made. Beatrice was only present at the reception from the beginning until the party ended. It was ridiculous, right? Her husband clearly said not to ask his secretary to come so early because Aaron had invited her as a guest. It differed from the existence of Rachel, whom she hired at both of her wedding agendas. So, it was only natural that Rachel was always close to her during the event.

She couldn't protest. At that time, her ego was high. Her cold war with Aaron was at its peak. How could she show her jealousy? Her ego refused to even admit it.

Therefore, she just kept silent, watching Beatrice continue to cling to them. Ah, should she explain? The woman continued to follow wherever Aaron moved. The only chance they got out of Beatrice's shadow was during the dance. Beatrice could not shamelessly ruin one of the important events at her party.

Helena thought Beatrice had realized everything. She should have known that her feelings were wrong. Liking someone's husband was not correct. Okay, she could still accept it if the feeling was hiding for herself. But, to show it so carelessly in front of her... What a brave woman.

It looked like that she needed someone to talk to. Otherwise, her head might explode with jealousy. Yes, at last, she confessed to the feeling—a feeling she didn't expect to burn her so quickly.

Helena's hand moved to pick up her cellphone, which was lying on the table. She would tell Sophie about all her concerns and feminine side that needed moral support from her best friend. Only women could understand each other.

- I think Aaron's secretary has feelings for him. -

She finished sending the message. Before long, a video call came into her cell phone. It was from Sophie. The woman must be accessible. Maybe, Sophie was resting after cleaning up the rest of her breakfast.

"Aaron is cheating on you?" Sophie asked as soon as her face appeared on Helena's smartphone screen.

"Don't talk recklessly!" Helena argued quickly, not accepting Sophie's accusations against her husband.

"Then what is your message about?" asked Sophie, showing her confusion.

"Aaron's secretary likes him," Helena repeated coldly. She was hate to accept that fact. However, that was the reality of what was happening.

"What about your husband? Does Aaron like his secretary too?"

Helena gasped. She just realized that she had only been thinking about Beatrice's feelings for her husband. Then, what about the other party? What was Aaron's opinion of Beatrice?

She did a great job.

Those were the only two words she heard from her husband's mouth. Aaron didn't say Beatrice was beautiful, kind, or caring. He only commented on her work. Did that show that the relationship between them was merely a job? Hopefully so.

"I don't know. I didn't ask."

Sophie squeaked. She didn't know what pissed her off more. Aaron, whom his secretary liked, or Helena, who was passive after learning the information. "Ask!" she said.

"I have to ask 'do you like Beatrice' then?" There was doubt in the tone of Helena's voice. She seemed suspicious and accusing at the same time. Aaron didn't like being treated like that. No, she must correct it. No one wanted to be suspected, moreover accused, even if that person was completely wrong. Once Helena took the wrong step, the trust that she and her husband had built so far would be broken. And she was afraid that it could be the beginning of their separation.

Sophie nodded firmly.

"Wouldn't it make me look like a wife who suspects her husband is cheating on her?"

One of Sophie's eyebrows pulled up. It surprised her to see Helena's reaction, who thought about that. Which was more important? She asked directly or kept everything that could raise more suspicion?

"If you don't ask, you'll never know the answer. After all, it's not about accusing, but making sure."

Okay. Sophie could see Helena's fear, and she understood very well why that feeling arose. However, if she was Helena, she would straight to the point ask the question to her husband. She didn't care if it gave the impression of suspicion. Her inner peace was more important than her image.

But she believed Helena would do what she imagined. Helena simply needed a little time to think and prepare for her confrontation. Helena was indeed full of plans. In contrast to her, who was outspoken by a level of emotional control below her best friend.

"I will ask," Helena replied after realizing the truth of Sophie's statement. Yes, she never accused Aaron of cheating. She just wanted to make sure and warn her husband about Beatrice's feelings for him.

Hearing that, Sophie smiled in satisfaction. She already knew Helena would do it. The woman just needed support. No, Helena needed a place to share her concerns. Even without her advice, Helena must have acted to prove everything. Her best friend was far scarier than her when Helena's peace was disturbed. "Yep. I'm waiting for the latest news." She responded.

Helena slowly smiled. It was a smile that signified the relief of her heart after a long conversation with her best friend. "Sure. I'll make Beatrice aware of her position," she said with complete confidence in her sentence.

"It should be!"
