Chapter 84: Chapter 84
Amy couldn’t believe it, for three days straight Bryan hasn’t called. Why is he giving her the cold shoulder? Why does he treat her this way? She has been trying to reach him, but it keeps going to voicemail. Is he avoiding her? Or is he actually busy? Sometimes, she swears she doesn’t understand the man she’s dating.
Amy waited for her dad to leave for work before getting dressed in a black off shoulder long sleeve shirt and blue denim trousers with black ankle boots. Rather than drive in one of her cars, Amy decided to call an Uber.
On her arrival at Bryan’s company, she didn’t find his secretary on her desk, so she opened the door to his office.
“What is going on here?” She irritatedly asked the moment she walked into the office.
Since when does a secretary’s job entails that she helps her boss put on his jacket?
Is this why he hasn’t been picking her calls?
Does this scarecrow of a secretary have something to do with his recent behavior?
Bryan was surprised to see Amy in his office. What is she doing in his office this early?
“I asked a question, didn’t I?”
Amy doesn’t care if her relationship with Bryan becomes obvious to his employees. He is her man, hers alone and she intends to keep it that way.
“Leave us alone, Gina” Bryan suddenly said to his secretary, who scurried out of the office with her head low.
“What was that all about?” Amy asked again, gesturing with her thumb at his secretary, who just left the office.
“What are you doing here?” Bryan asked instead, evading her question.
“Don’t try to change the subject, Bryan. I need to know why your secretary was all over you”
“What are you talking about? She was only helping me with my jacket”
“Oh really?! Is something wrong with your hands?”
“I have an important meeting to attend. You should’ve called before coming” he said, changing the subject. He had no idea why she was making a big deal out of nothing.
“Does that meeting have anything to do with being alone with your secretary?” Amy replied e heavy sarcasm.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Amy”
“Likewise you, Bryan. Don’t be ridiculous… Since when do I need to call my boyfriend before paying him a visit?”
There was a thick silence after that.
Amy was raging inside. She felt like pulling out the hair of his secretary, to make her know her place but she wasn’t in the mood to get into a petty fight with a trash like that. She doesn’t even get why Bryan still keeps her as his secretary.
Was he that blind not to see that his so called secretary is trying her hardest to seduce him?
“Bryan, why do I get the feeling you’ve been avoiding me?” She finally asked, breaking the awkward silence.
Bryan, on the other hand stared at her long and hard, making her wonder if she really knew him at all.
“We need to talk” he suddenly said, giving her goosebumps.
“What about?” She decided to ask in a quiet voice.
“About us” he simply replied, scaring her even more.
“Amy. We need to end this”
“I don’t understand. End what?” She was sincerely clueless of what he was talking about.
What do they need to end?
“This thing between us. This thing we’re having needs to stop…”
“What are you saying?” Her voice was already shaky, as she wasn’t at all prepared for what she was hearing.
“I thought about this for days, and.. I realized that-“ Bryan stopped himself, swallowing the lump in his throat.
There is no way under normal circumstances he’d be saying this, but after his last conversation with Henry, this is the only solution. As much as his heart is breaking, he needs to do this.
So, he took a long breath and continued.
“I realized that I don’t love you, Amy. I was only infatuated with you. I’m sorry”
Amy stumbled some steps backwards.
Infatuation? Did he just say he was never really in love with her? That’s a lie. That’s a big, fat lie.
The Bryan she has been in a relationship with was deeply in love with her. So, where is all this nonsense coming from?
She didn’t even know she was already crying, until she felt a drop of tears on her skin.
“This can’t be real. None of this is real… You made love to me four nights ago, Bryan. You also told me you were going to think of a way to get me out of my engagement to Sean. So this.. this isn’t real” she said in tears.
“I couldn’t tell you then even if I wanted to because of your state of mind… I’m sorry I led you on, I should’ve told you sooner”
With every word he uttered, Amy felt completely stupid. For the first time in her life, she felt defeated.
“You ignore me for three whole days and when I decide to visit you, this is what you say to me?” She sobbed, walking towards his office desk.
“Look me in the eye, Bryan and tell me you don’t love me” she said with deep pain in her voice.
How does he always mask his emotions? How is he so damn good at concealing his true feelings?
“I’m sorry, Amy” Bryan replied, looking her straight in the eye.
“That’s not true and you know it!” She angrily yelled, thrashing his documents, laptop, phone, anything her hands could find, on the floor.
Bryan didn’t say anything to stop her. He just stood across from her and watched her let out her emotions. At least, she was better than him, who was gradually dying inside.
“You’re doing this for them. I know you’re doing this for them… You actually never loved me. And even if you did, you love my dad and your son much more than you ever loved me!”
At this point, Amy didn’t care about anyone or anything. If she has been trying to save his reputation all this time, only for him to break her heart into pieces, she’d gladly ruin him with her own hands. If the world gets to find out about their relationship first, so be it.
“This has nothing to do with them” Bryan tried to excuse himself.
“It does. It has everything to do with them… You always worry about what they’d say, how they’d feel, what they’d do, but not once have you thought about me… You worry so much about your best friend and Sean, but what about me, Bryan? Did you even consider how I’d feel if you break up with me? No, you didn’t because I mean nothing to you” she broke into fresh sobs at the last part.
After what felt like an eternity of sobbing, Amy said
“Thank you, Bryan. Thank you for ruining my life” she gave him a hard stare before turning around to leave, but before she could reach for the door, she halted in her tracks and turned back around, taking long strides towards Bryan.
Once she was in front of him, she gave him a hard slap across the face.
“Mark my words, Bryan. I’d rather die than be with Sean or any other man” she muttered through clenched teeth, storming out of his office after that.
Bryan let out the tears he has been fighting back freely pour down his face. Watching Amy be in so much hurt almost made him take back his words, but he didn’t because it was better this way. Things could get pretty ugly if he does otherwise.
He punched the wall several times, to finally let out the emotions he has been bottling up. As if that wasn’t enough, he threw his swivel chair in a fit of anger across the room.
“Excuse me, sir. Your meeting with-“ his secretary stared at the current state of her boss’s office in pure horror, her mouth agape. Her eyes then traveled to her boss who was breathing heavily, his face red with anger.
“Sir, your hand!” She worriedly tried to notify him of his bleeding knuckles, but Bryan glared at her and yelled
“Get out!” Which she did without a second thought.
He can’t believe he just lost his happiness because of his cowardice.
