Chapter 40: Chapter 40

Blair

I arrived at the hotel and went straight to Dimitri's room, thanking him for keeping the key card. I started to gather my scattered things, throwing them into my suitcase anyway.

Dimitri knocked on the door a few minutes later, probably taking a cab right after I left. For a moment I contemplated the idea of leaving him out of his own room, but soon gave up, opening the door, giving him passage to enter.

He walked over to the bed, sitting there watching me with a frown.

" What are you doing?”

I didn't answer, zipping up my suitcase and putting on the sandals I had taken off when I arrived.

" Blair, let's take a shower and talk.”

He tried again, but I still remained silent.

If he thinks that after everything that happened today he's going to bend me over like this.

That's when I had an idea. I walked over to the minibar, opening it and taking out every single item, no matter how useless it was.

" What are you doing? This costs a fortune, you know the company doesn't cover it! " he stood up as I started to put everything into the bag.

" I guarantee you it doesn't cost a third of what I had to pay at that damn bar to keep the police away!

I exploded, feeling unable to keep up the silent treatment.

" What did you expect me to do, the guy was an idiot.”

" And you acted very differently from him, didn't you? " I returned angrily.

" Are you going to defend him? Whose side are you on? " he pointed a finger at me, causing anger to cloud my judgment.

" I'm on the side that keeps me out of a goddamn prison! " I shouted in response “and you'd understand that if you weren't busy acting like such a troglodyte!”

" I did it to defend you!”

" No, you did it to defend your damn male pride! You couldn't take it, a provocation from a guy you don't even know, but I was forced to be alone while you had fun with your friend!”

I felt possessed by every detail of that night. I didn't even want to leave the room in the first place!

" Is that what this is about? A jealousy crisis? Natasha is just a friend, you don't have to worry.”

" This is not about jealousy, but I just realized that I am dating a complete imbecile! " I returned angrily, picking up my suitcase and dragging it to the door.

" Where are you going?”

" Where do you think? To my room!”

I answered from the hallway, slamming the door after I left. Dasha and Natasha were coming out of one of the rooms and stared when they saw me walking by, but I ignored them, got into the elevator and went down to the floor of my room, mentally thanking myself for not telling Dimitri the number.

For a moment I thought he was going to follow me, but when I found myself safely inside the room, I allowed myself to breathe a sigh of relief. I dropped my bag by the door and went into the bathroom, preparing for a shower when my cell phone started ringing.

I didn't even bother to answer Dimitri, but just turned it off and stepped into the shower. In a few minutes I was lying in bed, feeling exhausted by everything that had happened. Sadness threatened to replace anger, but I did my best to keep it at bay, managing to sleep without shedding a single tear.

The next day I awoke to the ringing of the bedroom bell. I frowned and got up, putting on my robe before walking to the door, hoping that it wasn't Dimitri out there. I was a little calmer about what had happened, but that didn't mean I wanted to see him.

I opened the door, letting a hotel employee pushing a breakfast cart. I followed him closely, not understanding what was happening.

" Sorry, I didn't order breakfast.”

" Someone sent it for you," he indicated a note among the trays, "have a nice day.”

" Have a nice day.”

I waited for him to leave the room before picking up the note, unfolding it.

"I'm sorry I acted like an idiot, you were right. Please call me when you want to talk.”

I sighed, throwing myself into the armchair in the bedroom, feeling torn. I was still angry with him, but the mature, rational part of my mind was screaming that I couldn't ignore him forever.

Well, not forever, but I could ignore him a little longer. I kept my cell phone turned off and ate some of what he had sent, avoiding leaving the room, so as not to run the risk of bumping into him at the hotel.

In the middle of the morning another package arrived. A small bouquet of roses with yet another note.

"I know you're upset, but I'm sorry for everything and wanted to work things out."

Should I talk to him now? Or wait a little longer?

I chose to wait, already starting to feel suffocated in that room, but it was a matter of principle!

It didn't take long for the third gift to arrive, the delivery man seemed tired of going to my room, but I couldn't care less.

I sat up in bed, opening the package to find a statue about twenty centimeters long that was a replica of the famous Marina Bay fountain. A chimera with a lion head and a fish body, not a pretty combination, but it was amazing!

I spun the statue in my hands, decorating every detail before searching for the note.

"If the flowers didn't work out, how about a souvenir from Singapore? They say the merlion is a symbol of peace, prosperity and love, so anyone who has one of these at home will have all those things in abundance. I hope they're right about love."

I couldn't help but smile as I finished reading, but soon a second note caught my attention.

"Okay, I lied. The merlion was created just to attract tourists and represent singapore, but I still think it will be a nice souvenir for your loft"

If the first part had already made me smile, this second note made me laugh. Giving myself a chance, I left the statue on the bed before turning on my cell phone. It's about time I sorted things out.
