Chapter 16: Chapter 16
Skye's POV
Her hair was tied in a ponytail which gave her a catlike face with her eyes tilting and beautiful. My wolf Eros growled and wanted to claim her badly. Her chest heaved and my eyes got distracted by it. "Let go of me," she said struggling.
For a moment I forgot why I was there and Eros wanted to be in this position till whenever. I inhaled her scent and Eros's eyes flashed. I had to control him from getting out. I realized my coverup scent was wearing off and soon I would be detected as an intruder.
"I have something important to tell you." I finally said.
"You risked your life here just to tell me you have something important to say? You know I can have your head delivered to me on a platter of gold or don't you?" she asked tilting her chin.
I smirked. "And still yet you haven't done it?" I said to her then became serious. "It's really important."
"And what would that be if I'm permitted to ask?" she asked being skeptical.
"There's a myth about a demon king which is real. It's said to prey on white wolves most especially the pure and spotless ones." I said.
She stared at me like I was blabbing and crazy too. "What nonsense are you talking about?" she asked.
"I'm not uttering nonsense, Ava. You're a pure white wolf and I've seen it. That makes you an easy prey to the demon king. There's only one way to stop him and protect you." I said to her.
"And that is?" she asked raising a brow in disbelief.
"Something about a prophesied marriage between two alphas. That's us. A union between my pack and yours. That's the only way he can be stopped from all his evils." I said.
She pushed me away from her. "Lies, all lies I say, lies!" she said raising her voice.
"It's nothing but the truth. It's a prophecy that has long been said before we were even of age." She raised her hands in exasperation.
"Really Skye, really?" she asked and I moved closer to her.
"I'm serious about this," I said.
She shook her head. "What a pathetic way for you to force me to accept you as my mate. You blood moons are nothing but liars!" She yelled at me.
I grabbed her shoulders in annoyance. "We blood moons are known for honesty." "Last time I checked, you all were not honest," she said irritably and I knew where she was driving at.
"This marriage is real Ava, believe me, or not, it's the only way to protect you and save us all. If you doubt me so much you can ask your uncle Phil." I said to her.
My coverup scent was wearing off and my blood moon scent was resurfacing and soon I'll be detected by the crescents. I pulled her into an embrace and whispered in her ears. " I'll be back soon." and with that, I was gone.
Ava's POV
I fumed in anger. What sort of tactics was Skye trying to use on me? What gave him the boldness to step into the crescent's territory and tell me I was in danger?
Demon king my foot. I kicked the dust and twigs on the ground. I turned around and saw Fernandez standing a few feet away from me. "How long have you been there?" I asked frowning at him.
"Long enough to see the blood moon alpha holding you in his arms," he said in a rather disappointing way.
"I assume you're going to tell on me like you always do? or is this going to be a different case?" I asked him.
"I'm more than that," he said. "And besides I'm not here for that," he added.
I turned my back on him. "Then what are you here for?" I asked folding my arms across my chest.
"Your uncle wants you at the camp," he said and turned to walk away.
"What for?" I asked turning around.
"That I'm afraid I'm not aware of," he said and walked away.
I walked back to camp and saw uncle seated with a man. "Ava," Uncle said when I got closer. "Uncle?" I questioned wondering what was going on.
"This is Dalton Creed from Shadow pack," he said and turned to the man. " This is Ava, my niece." Uncle introduced.
I stared at the man in front of me. He was clean shaven with brown hair unlike Skye with a perfectly shaved bearded face with those piercing eyes of his. Dalton was quite short, only an inch taller than me, unlike Skye who was... What in the world was I doing? Why was I thinking of a mate I rejected? Dalton took my hand as he smiled placing a kiss on the back of my palm.
"Nice to meet you, Ava," he said obviously trying to charm me. "I've heard so much about you," he said still smiling.
"And I presume you have also heard, I break hands that hold mine without my acknowledgment," I said to him with a curved and wicked smile.
"Oh," his eyes brighten in realization as he let go of my hand.
"Be polite Ava," uncle Phil said and I shrugged. "This is Dalton and he's going to be your husband." Uncle Phil said and I stared at him in shock and surprise.
I was asked to walk with Dalton to know more about him, my soon to be husband and I loathed the idea but had to oblige. I believed it will get Skye off my back and mind. Dalton was a talkative and I paid little or no attention to him or what he was saying. I was glad when he finally left.
I went to my uncle and found him speaking with the male members of the pack that was in involved in the wood trade with him. "Why am I getting married all of a sudden uncle?" I questioned not giving a care that he was talking business. He made an erratic movement with his eyes to them and they understood and left us alone. "You of all people should know the tradition of the crescents. The alpha is to get married on the same day of her coronation and in a few weeks, you'll be made alpha of this pack," he said to me. I rolled my eyes. "Of course, I know the tradition uncle. But, mother was not married when she was queen." He stared at me for a while.
"She was married." He said.
I was baffled. If she was then where was my father? "You haven't really told me anything about it," I said delving deeper.
He waved it aside. "That's not what should be discussed," he said.
I nodded. "Why Dalton?" I asked going back to the bone of contention. "Dalton's father, the alpha of the shadow pack is a good friend of mine in business. Dalton is a good person and as for Skye, he'll bring you nothing but traumas. He's no good news." he said to me. I looked at him and then away from him. My mind processing all that he has said.
