Chapter 91: Chapter 91
"What on earth is going on?"
Madison heard her mother say as soon as she picked up her phone and she frowned, confused. She did not understand the urgency in her mother's voice and also, they hadn't spoken in a while so she wasn't exactly sure what she meant.
"What do you mean? Is something wrong? What are you talking about mother?”
"What happened is that I overheard your father and brother talking about Damien!”
Madison was so shocked that she nearly dropped their phone. Mason and her dad talking about Damien? Whatever it was, she knew it couldn't be good.
She dug her fingers into her hair as she let the information sink in, and then she spoke up again, “Did you hear what exactly they were talking about in detail?" She asked, wanting to know exactly what they had discussed.
Her mother answered in the negative much to her disappointment, "I couldn't hear everything they said, but they kept on repeating Damien's name. What is really going on, Madison? I know you are hiding something from me, and I'm sure it has something to do with that boy right?”
Madison clenched her fingers nervously, as she though of what to tell her mother. This was not a conversation she wished to have, especially not right now.
“N-no… there's no problem mother. I think you misheard or…” She paused stammering, hoping her mother would buy it and drop the topic.
"Don't give me that, Madison. Don't even think about lying to me right now. I am tired of being left in the dark, so can you please be honest with me. I know there's something you're not telling me."
Madison rubbed her head, exhausted. She wanted to protest, and tell her mother that she didn't wish to discuss anything right now but her mother kept pushing and pushing, till Madison couldn't take in anymore.
"Is something going on between you and Damien?" She finally asked and Madison froze in shock.
At first she was lost on what to say, but then anger set in, “You know what, I don't want to talk about him, okay!”
As she said those words, it made her remember everything that went on last night, and the more she thought of it, the weaker she became.
Why? Why did he have to come back after so long? Why couldn't he just remain a thing of the past? He had just appeared and shook her world, turning it upside down completely, even when she had just been managing. Why? Tears pooled in her eyes as she remembered everything, and then she began to sob loudly.
Shocked, her mother began to calm her down.
“Dear? Oh my goodness Madison… It's okay. Just calm down, alright? If you don't feel like talking about it, it's fine. Just calm down."
Madison tried, but the lump in her throat refused to go away, and she kept on crying even when her mother continued to coo her, asking her to calm down.
She continued to sob helplessly, taking a few minutes to compose herself, and finally when she found her voice she sighed and then spoke into the receiver, "I think why father and Mason were talking about him is because… I… Damien… He's in London.” She finally said, stuttering incessantly.
"Wait, what?" Her mother sounded shocked, “When did he come? And what does his coming even have to do with anything? I mean I still don’t understand.”
Trying not to break down again, Madison proceeded to tell her mother everything that had happened, at least the ones she knew of.
Her mother sounded shocked when she informed her that Damien and Mason had met, and apparently Mason had told him a few things. She also told her about last night; Damien's visit, their conversation, and the fact that he had asked for her forgiveness.
As she narrated all this, her fingers tightened on her shirt. She was trying her whole possible best to narrate everything without any emotion, but it was getting harder by the second.
When she got to the part where Damien had asked for forgiveness, a tear finally dropped from her eyes. She remembered the look in his eyes, the pain and truthful guilt she had saw in there and her heart clenched.
She closed her eyes, exhaled loudly and then she kept going.
When she finished talking, her mother was silent for a few seconds, obviously shocked from all the information.
“What was your response to all of this? Everything with Damien? What did you say to him?” Her mother finally asked and Madison was a bit surprised.
She hadn't expected her mother to ask about that of all things and now she had no option but to say something.
"Although I might have forgiven Damien because he wasn't completely at fault for everything that happened and he was misled, it doesn't mean I have forgotten everything he did to me. I went through so much, and most of it was his fault. So I haven't forgotten and I don't think I ever will. He wants us to be together, start over…but I didn't agree mother. It's not going to happen."
"Why not?" Her mother asked and Madison was surprised again, but she didn't show or voice it out.
There was no point touching on it over and over again and so she brushed off her mother's comment.
“Mother, none of that matters now, anyway. I'm leaving London soon. I'm leaving the UK for good too. I need to be somewhere different, and start over…"
"W-what?" Her mother sounded horrified, "M-Madison, surely you don't mean that. You want to leave me here. You want to go and…”
"I do mean it mother. I’m leaving.” Madison interjected before her mother could finish and she continued, "I'm cutting ties with everyone and I'm leaving. I need to get away from all this. I don't care about Damien anymore, I don't care about this family anymore. I just need to get out of here. I'm tired."
As the reality began to sink in, her mother seemed to realize that she was not joking, and she broke down.
Madison could hear the hints of her sobbing, and just like she’d thought her mother started crying and begging, "Madison, p-please… you can't just leave. You can just leave your family. Okay I know you have an estranged relationship with your father, but what about me? I… I can't let you do that… you're my only daughter. What am I supposed to—"
"I'm sorry, mom. It's just something I have to do. I don’t even know what to say now but… Mother I’m sorry.” She said hastily and before her mother could plead anymore, Madison hung up.
As soon as she tossed the phone back to the bed, the dam in her eyes burst and she continued to cry once more.
Gina, who was seated on the bed the whole time, quickly rushed to her, and with worry in her eyes she asked, “What's the matter? Who called you?"
"My m-mother…" She sniffed, “She called and I told… No Gina, please don’t ask any further. I don't want to talk about it."
Nodding in understanding, Gina said softly, “It's okay, I get it."
Her arms outstretched for a hug, Madison who was still sobbing accepted the hug, and melted into it.
If crying her hearts out would make her feel a little bit better, then she didn’t mind doing so...
…….
Damien's eyes slowly fluttered open as he awakened, and everything suddenly felt like deja vu.
He was still in the same hotel room as before, and his head was still pounding. Only this time it was from crying and not from the hangover he’d suffered from, after drinking last night.
He groaned, sitting up and grabbed a bottle of water from the table. After taking a few sips, he felt a little better.
He relaxed back into the bed, still feeling quite tired, and he wondered if he should ask for any gym around here and go work his brains out.
Exercising always kept him awake and made him energetic so it might not be such a bad idea, and just as he started considering it, his phone suddenly began to ring.
He spent a few seconds trying to locate it, and when he finally found it under a pile of sheets, it had already stopped ringing. Damien sighed in relief.
He looked at the caller ID and seeing that it was Katherine's father calling, he honestly was in no mood to speak to the man, and so he was glad that the call didn’t go through.
He just didn’t want to talk to that man at all. Seeing that he had other missed calls, Damien scrolled through, his nose dropping in shock when he saw that they were all from Katherine's father. Over fifty missed calls!
What the fuck? Why was the man calling repeatedly? What had happened? Was this even about Katherine?
Alarmed, Damien jerked up from the bed and tapped his call log. Quickly, he dialed the number and waited, but he didn’t have to wait for so long because the man picked up on the first ring.
Before Damien could mutter a greeting, Mr Scott had taken off, cutting him short.
"Save it!" He yelled, “I don't need your fake greetings. How dare you treat my daughter the way you did? How dare you think you can do whatever you please with her and walk away free? It was bad enough that you cheated on her and broke her heart, and now you don't even bother to pick up her calls? You treat her like shit What the fuck!”
Damien was taken aback. His eyes blinking as he heard the word cheating. What the hell was going on? "Mr Scott I think there's been some sort of misunderstanding here. If you could just—"
"Keep your flimsy excuses to yourself!" He hissed, cutting Damien off, "I promise I am going to deal with you. I'll teach you such a lesson that you will regret ever doing this to my daughter, and it is going to rain fire in the business world. It seems you have forgotten who I am, and I will remind you. After that we'll see if you ever dare to lay a filthy hand on my daughter!"
Damien was still in shock, but before he could say anything, the man had hung up on him.
He stared at his phone screen, hissing. Nothing made sense at all right now, and where on earth had those cheating accusations come from?
Damien dug his fingers in his hair, trying to make sense of it, but he already knew the answers already.
Katherine must have fed her father with lies, and now Damien was the one suffering the brunt of it.
He already had enough drama in his life already and everything was going wrong as it was, he didn't need an additional problem to add to these ones. Especially not one that involved Katherine and her crazy ass.
As he sighed, about to drop his phone, it pinged with a notification. He checked the notification bar, seeing that it was a text from the manager of his hotel here in London and he quickly tapped on it, his eyes narrowing when he saw it was a picture. He sighed.
It was the clearer picture of his ransacked suite, and he got angry just looking at it again.
Katherine!
"What the fuck is wrong with that woman!" He cursed, rubbing at his forehead, "She's nothing but a fucking psychopath."
A psychopath and he hated the fact that he had to deal with her. Everything about her was trouble.
Sighing, he decided to deal with the suite situation later on. He suddenly remembered something, and then he called his private investigator who was still in Kettlesworth.
"Hello sir?" Mr Rudiger greeted as soon as he picked up.
Damien went straight to the point, telling him to inform the team to prepare and return to London. "We are done there, and so I need you back here with me in London as soon as possible."
"Okay sir. We'll be back first thing tomorrow morning."
Damien hung up and tossed his phone to the bed. Sighing heavily, he slowly lifted himself from the bed and walked to the bathroom.
Brunch and a hot shower would make him feel a lot better right now.
